  1. A post like that deserves rebuke. Well beaten today no doubt but gulf in wages and resources is huge. Not a happy clapper just a realist. Love my team and proud of what we have achieved this season.

  2. Not even with direct flights from Auckland to Dubai. Think it is about 23 hours in the air from New Plymouth to Glasgow. When you mentioned it, I did briefly consider it. My wife is at the gym. I could have just left her a note.

  4. Was able to go back to bed after the final whistle. Probably did me good to get a couple of hours sleep. Disappointed with the way it went obviously. Unfortunately we lost goals at bad times and the game was pretty much over when the second one went in. Cannot agree with anyone putting the boot into McHugh. The guy looked utterly dejected. At our level you win as a team and you lose as a team. Also felt that, while we did improve when Bigi came on, he benefitted from the state of the game at the time. Celtic had taken the foot off the gas and the midfield opened up nicely for him to show his abilities. Absolutely no guarantee that he could have done that from the outset. Cannot fault them on effort and attitude. as I sat watching, alone in the dark at 2am on a cold Kiwi morning, trying to ignore the shite commentary on BEIN sport’s covera, I was sure I heard the applause at 19 minutes for the lad who passed away a day or so before the final. I felt a shiver down my spine and stood for a moment, holding my late father’s scarf just a little tighter. At the end of the game, watching their players and support celebrate, I immediately realised that I could never support a team like that. If you are a Motherwell fan, you are in it for the long haul. No religion, no politics, no “we won and that makes me better than you because you lost”. Just a sense of the place from where we or our families came from and a love of the game and trying to play it the right way. Today my team gave their all and behaved with dignity when it wasn’t enough to win the prize. I can live with that. And so the story continues.

  5. Leave politics out of it. The well has been poisoned already by the Ugly Sisters. Scottish football is the worse for it, and has been so for yonks. For those who have chosen to disparage MFC on here today, I have seen far more talented teams (from 1962 onwards) who have never even sniffed a SCF, so think again, Poindexters. We have a young manager and a young squad who will learn much from today: I've bought my season and am looking forward to next season already, damn my happy-clapper hide. Our trolls can swivel, imho.

  6. I'd obviously have been delighted if we had won, but not too disappointed today. Turned out pretty much the way I imagined it might. We have put in some great cup performances this season, but beating Celtic in a final is a different proposition. Realistically, we don't have the quality in the team right now to do that without a slice of luck. Give where we were last season, and the amout of new faces we brought in over the summer, it's been great progress. If we make the same progress again next season, it should be a good one. (And how nice has it been to have cup games at home and deep runs in both?)

  7. A deflating day, although I must admit, my disappointment eased a touch having gone back to Fir Park after the game for a bit. It was nice to be around like minded souls. Obvious stuff but the game was won and lost in the first half. It was just such a disappointing first half performance from us. I think just about everyone bought into in the air of assurance and confidence that all at the club were showing beforehand but I think that just made the tentative and hesitant performance in the opening half hurt all the more. We performed much more creditably in the second half but Celtic obviously had the two goal cushion and had no real requirement to push on at that stage. If Bigi's free-kick had gone in or Cadden's header gone in or even veered further in the direction of Frear, who knows how the last few minutes might have panned out but the better team won and on this occasion we only have ourselves and not Craig Thomson or any official to blame this time. I think there's definitely a debate to be had about where we stand currently and what we need to do to progress and move forward but are those few minutes after full time when the rawness after a Cup Final loss is at it's greatest the time for that? Or when some of the contributions smack of capitalising on an opportunity to air negative opinions when morale has taken a hit. Rather than any perceived failing on the support I actually thought that most waiting around to applaud the team after the game and when they got their medals reflected well on us. A fact remarked upon by one or two in the media and some of the opposition support. I've seen loads of finals where the losers have fucked off pronto but I think it's to our credit as a support that we've sucked up the results of the League Cup and Scottish Cup Finals and hung around to show appreciation to the team. It can surely only enhance the rapport between the players and supporters and be viewed as a positive when attempting to attract or retain players. So, a disappointing end to the season without question but undoubtedly a season that's been a success on so many levels be that the improvement in league position, the success we've achieved in Cup competitions that have been so coveted and are so valuable to the club financially. But the club's Twitter account is right, it doesn't end here. It can't end here. A success it has been but there remains a fairly high ceiling in the league for improvement, an opportunity to expand upon to the style or at least add a variety to the type of football played and of course we will always retain aspirations of lifting silverware again (oh for the fortune of playing a non-Old Firm side in the Final again!) I'll be renewing the season ticket next week!!

  8. I personally thought the rendition of Flower of Scotland was a tad embarrassing. The Celtic Palestine display was also cringe worthy as politics should be kept out of football. No doubt they will face a fine from the SFA.

  9. Celtic haven't lost a Scottish Cup Final against anyone other than Rangers or Aberdeen since 1961. Today was always going to be a uphill task. Truth is if you get to the semi final stage you are much better off drawing them then because to beat them in the Final requires something exceptional. Not really talking about today because the players deserved some applause after the match for getting to the final but I do feel as if there has been a sort of 'Tartan Army' mentality creeping into some of our support recently.

  11. Not long landed in London. A huge thank you to G&F for the upgrade, I slept for 90% of the flight so wasn't able to take advantage of the free booze, but the extra legroom and reclining chair were a godsend given how tall I am. Make yourself known in the shed later and I'll buy you a pint! Mon the Well!

  16. gutted but 2nd half we gave it our best. I aint going to criticise any players, ye maybe some were off form but they tried their best. However what I will say is some of our fans need to get a grip . Some of the songs being sung on way to park were an embarrassment. Tell you what if you want to sing sectarian and bigoted songs then go and follow the old firm and stay away from Fir Park.

  17. You absolutely did, and to be fair, the Celtic fans joined in with that too.

  18. I don't really care what their political views are, but whether one agrees with them or not, there's a time and a place to air them and the Scottish Cup Final isn't it. Fitba' is what you watch to forget all that stuff for an hour or two every week.

  19. I have a mate who was from Palestine and would be killed on sight if he went back. I dont like celtic as a football club, but good for them for doing their bit for Palestine. Someone needs to.

  20. Get a grip. We were battling relegation last season. Two finals in one season isnt good enough for you? Ive stood on the fir park terraces and watched us get pumped by the likes of Morton and Raith Rovers. Two cup finals in one season isnt good enough for you? What will be?

  21. One day we will inevitably return to being knocked out of both cups in early rounds by rival teams (and the odd lower league upset) and we'll look back to this season with fondness and go back to yearning for trips to Hampden, but anyone moaning about our cup efforts this season has no right to moan about a lack of cup runs when that day happens. Extremely proud of the players, fans and the club today and for the season as a whole.

  23. Two goals from well outside the box (one a deflection) and neither giving the goalie any chance was the difference today. Celtic didn’t appear a dangerous goal threat in the box. They controlled possession well but if we had managed a goal early in the second half I think we had a chance to make a better game of it. Well done to the Well for distance travelled from last season and a very worthy two final appearances, beaten in cups only by a Celtic team who have lost only 4 games in two seasons. We have nothing to be ashamed of - only wish we could have won.

  24. Felt better about this game than in November behforehand, sadly when you let a team with better players stroke the ball from left to right outside your 18 yard box with impunity looking for a hole or mistake then you are gonna get punished. The gulf in the two squads is massive both in terms of playing budget (20x or there abouts) and composure. When we get into trouble and under pressure we hoof it out or up the park. They do on occasion too, but inevitably there is a guy in green & white standing waiting on it or able to challenge to retain possession. I can't feel that bad about today's game compared with the League Cup as they beat us reasonably fairly, Brown still waltz's through games with a "Whit me?" puppy dog look every time a referee looks at him. I think rather than Bigi making a difference, I put it down to Celtic taking their foot off the gas. We can beat Celtic on individual player fitness or desire but not on footballing ability as money does talk. Overall, fantastic season from where we were and personnel we brought in. Achieved much more than I expected and coffers are full even if the trophy cabinet isn't.

  25. Yes that got me also. Thought the Well fans responded wonderfully with Flower of Scotland. Surely they should be sanctioned for that shit. Beggars belief that anyone with a brain would support the ugly sisters! But just realised, they are brainless!

  26. I'm not being funny but I can't wrap my head around happy clappers, the " wasn't ment to be patter" just get me wound up, we never showed up and apart from a 15 minute spell Celtic were bang average, we just shat it. I think today just proves to all that McHugh litteraly gets a start because he is captain. To be captain and be taken off so early in a final just shows where he should be in the pecking order, if it wasn't for the arm band he would have been warming the bench half the season. Half of this is just salt rambling but I need to vent.

  27. Total anti climax after all that build up that even had me believing we could/would do it! First half was atrocious, second much better but still not enough. Bigi made a massive difference. I thought the ref was poor but pointless shouting at him from so far away. Some amount of shirtless steaming toothless mutants in our support that hardly watched the game and just wandered about! Embarrassing. Never seen half these guys at a game in my life. Still, at least we didn’t have a visual display in support of Hamas.

  28. Second half we played like we should and can play and also what id expect against old firm at hampden. First half was poor, there goals were half chances but it was alot more than we created. Some debatable decisions second half but we really created nothing. Dissapointed but its been a great season in the cups. Really hope for another cup run next year. Its starting to become annoying losing to the old firm in finals cos lets be honest we all have pals who support the old firm and the smugness is sickening. One day it will be our year and i cant wait for that day. SIWY!

  35. The support and the belief is amazing. I truly believe this is our year. Surrounded by my wife's family all being Tim's can't wait to stick it to them. Myself and my son will be there cheering on the mighty well. I was at the 91 cup final at the age of 3 with my dad and have photos holding the cup I cannot wait to replicate this with one of my boys he's five and been buzzing since the semi final!! Sounds like I am a glory hunter but been a loyal season ticket holder since I was 5 now 30. My son has just enjoyed his first season ticket and we cannot wait to celebrate it together. The closer it gets the more emotional I keep getting. The hairs have stood up on my neck and arms all week and I have believed since the Betfred final this would be our year and as the week has gone by the more the belief has got stronger!! The team looked confident and relax regarding it when would u ever see there main centre half in a local college learning to make bread days before the big day!! Celtic have more to lose little old motherwell are not expected to win cups so we have no pressure but all the belief. Robbo and keef at the helm has been a revelation this season and cannot wait for next!! Let's enjoy our day!! Enjoy the parade!! #coyw #siwy Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk

  42. I’ve watched Motherwell legends since I was 3, beginning with the Ancell babes, St John and Andy Weir. I’ve seen amazing players: Joe McBride, Willie Pettigrew, Joe Wark, Phil O’Donnell. I’ve seen some amazing goals, ridiculously good football. But I don’t remember a team so wholly and collectively committed, so universally industrious and so tightly knit and focused as this current team. They deserve success. However, they must earn it on the pitch this Saturday. They have been amazing in the run up to the final : each and every one speaking with a relaxed self confidence combined with an intense passion and drive to win. Tomorrow I hope they channel this superb collective energy and run over the top of Celtic. We can do it! COYW...
