other than a few dodgy performances after the defeat at tynecastle hateley had a really good season so hopefully mccall keeps him at right back and signs a straight replacement for jenno, hateley has never impressed me in midfield anyway.id be happy enough to go with what we have in defence but signing a midfielder should be the priority

The way things are shaping up at present. I'm happy to go into the new season with what we have - looking forward to seeing Saunders back and seeing more of Devlin, Cummins, Carswell and Page.

I'm no big fan of Hateley in midfield, but think we could maybe give him some extended game time there - see what transpires.

Hopefully in the first half of the season some of Murphy, Hutch and Randolph show some form and earn good moves for the benefit of both player and club

In times of adversity we fuckin smash it. No point in changing that now

Exactly - we won't be able to afford to bring anyone in and we have to get behind who we have. We're going to need something to happen that we haven't budgeted for like a good player sale, cup runs or higher than expected income from Europe to get by without bringing in new players.

The good thing is everyone else will be in the same boat but I'm excited at the prospect of giving some of the youngsters a chance.

Yup, there's nothing else for it.

The younger players in the team will have no opportunity to develop unless we give them the chance, and don't jump on them the first time they misplace a pass.

Every single player who we've brought through and sold on was once an untested, unknown quantity - everything has to start somewhere!

Is it just me who'd be content with an XI of:

Randolph

Hateley Saunders Hutchison Hammell

Humphrey Lasley Carswell Law

Higdon Ojamaa

??

It can be mixed up a bit up front with Murphy on the bench and seems like a difficult backline to break down if we don't play too far up the park.

A couple of signings is always nice but I'm not reaching for the panic button just yet. That's a good young team we've got there.

Peterborough United will this week complete the signings of Steven Jennings from Motherwell, Lawrie Wilson & Michael Bostwick from Stevenage and Derby's Miles Addison. Posh are also close to completing a deal for Jordan Cook.

Yeah frazzle would prob start with murphy but mcall will play higdon and tbh that would be fine by me! Would like a couple of free loan players from down south to bump the squad up a bit since if Saunders gets injured again we are in trouble would be a lot of pressure on our youth team specialty if Hutchinson gets a suspension and wonder if lasley has the legs for another season! But def think that side can be easily top six!

Not sure about Carswell with what i've seen so far or Hately in midfield i say we try and get someone in. <_>

I really worry about fans like you in the near future.

Not sure where you've been recently but there's a wee issue going on just now regarding a team from Glasgow. Rumour has it that a number of clubs in Scottish football, including ourselves, may be affected by it.

Also, whisper it quietly, but our manager may have had his budget slashed by the pound or two due to financial constraints from the board.

There's a theory going round that we've been unable to offer enough money to players such as Jennings and Clancy. Word is, that's why they aren't with us any more.

Now, you might have spotted the odd rumbling in the media suggesting that numerous clubs in Scottish football face possible administration due to uncertainty over sponsorships, TV money and visits from Rangers fans.

It would appear that even on this very message board, others are offering suggestions such as paying at the gate instead of using their season ticket, setting up a fiver-a-month standing order or even collecting goods to save the club paying postage. Who knows why?

Yes, it's better to concentrate on issues on the field. Let's judge a youngster on a handful of games before he's really been given a chance to prove himself. You're good at judging players quickly. Have a look at the Michael Higdon thread you started last season.

Come on Motherwell board, let's sign a quality midfielder this summer. While we're at it, let's get a 20-goal a season replacement for that fat fuck Higdon. I don't want to hear your excuses about money. Don't you care where we finish in the table? Gosh darn it, if we don't qualify for Europe again this season I'll be writing a very strongly-worded message on this forum letting you know all about it.

I actually agree with Dewell that Carswell dosnt fill me with huge confidence!

But only has a two i think he would look better as a midfield three. For instance we could have Law Lasley and Carswell and then a moving front three of Ojaama Murphy and Humphrey or a more static one with Higdon for Humprey would allow us to get all of Higdon Murphy and Higdon in the same squad. Think Daley could also fit into this side! Would also give young carswell more support in the middle.

On the other hand that boy Xavi is good what about him instead of Carswell..........

I think Carswell, like any youngster, needs a run of games before you can properly judge him. I personally think he's shown enough in certain games to show he's a future at Motherwell and I can see why McCall gave him a 2 year deal. Anyone who was at his debut at Tynecastle will tell you for a 17 year old boy he was very impressive, rarely put a foot out of place and the biggest compliment you could pay him is you couldn't tell he was young lad making his debut. Was calm, composed won plenty of tackles and kept it nice and simple.

This last season he's made four starts. Four! With half a dozen sub appearances thrown in and people are judging him. He's still only 18 for fuck sake! He's a boy. Still plenty of time for him to grow and develop on several promising showings. His most notable this season for me was the game against Aberdeen in the league in March. I thought he was outstanding alongside Jennings. Won every tackle, got from box to box(even went beyond the strikers to get into the box which is something we've no had from a centre mid in years), kept possesion and recycled the ball and even manged a few shots on goal and was unlucky not to score. Showed plenty in that game that he could be a good player.

He's had a few poor showings I'll grant you but what people seem to forget is he's only 18 and he's made about 20 first team appearances(most from the bench). That's no time to write a boy off, he's got plenty to learn but he's got time on his side and McCall clearly sees plenty of raw potential. Let's wait until he's had a full season under his belt and then see what he's all about.

The one good thing about this 'cash crisis' is that boys like Carswell and to a greater extent the likes Page and McHugh who have shown some potential will get more of chance this season.

Motherwell being rumoured to sign lionel messi and david villa for a combined 50 million. We get the players now and will fork up the money to Barca after we beat them in the final of the champions league.
