  1. Celtic were not allowed to start for the first 20 minutes. Gifting them their first goal changed the mood of the game completely. I thought we were excellent up until we scored. High tempo, high pressing, accuracy in the pass. Certainly signs of what could be this season. Their goal knocked the wind out of our sails and we never recovered. All the hard work was wiped out on their first attack and the players allowed it to get to them. I did not think the problem lay in our midfield three and infact I thought Donnelly, Campbell and Polworth were fantastic in the first half. The problem was more the lack of effectiveness of the much heralded new players. Too often there was no end product from Sedoorf, Hylton and Long leaving the midfield three too much to carry on their own. I am happy to give them time because those players faced a level of opposition today that they will rarely have faced in their careers. However, sadly it showed leaving the midfield three far too much ground to cover. Five shots on target and five goals from Celtic tells a story. They have a quality in their side that we can only dream of and to have Christie, Sinclair and Edouard coming off the bench when our players were visibly tiring makes a nonsense of any faint hope that they would suffer a midweek European hangover. Celtic should not be in the same league as us but the quirks of geography and political history means that they are a huge fish in a tiny pond and today it showed. Gillespie has been excellent for us so those calling for him to be replaced after one poor performance is nonsense. Certainly enough to give us hope and Hearts will be a far more reliable test of the true position of our squad at this moment in time. Finally, I think Gallacher looks a real find. He was unlucky today with the free kick and the yellow card was a nonsense but sadly I think that affected him because up until then he looked in complete control.

  2. Answer me this Q Who oh why do people rise to the bait from Yodo and Steelboy. Week in week out it is the same narrative. It is not that they don’t occasionally raise valid points..well Steelboy anyway, but by Christ it is doomsday pish every single game even those we win. Unless we get an Arab sheikh we will be a team that battles to avoid relegation and probably finishes mid table or thereabouts. We will get gubbed off Celtic more often than not because they have one player that costs 2x our annual turnover. Please don’t give them the attention they do not deserve

  3. The south stand was built for away fans that's all they should get it's not a difficult concept, the rest of the ground should be well fans only, as a fan owned club the WS should be making that point at every opportunity.

  5. Great first 20 mins but poor after that. All our forward players poor and I know he is a great guy but how long is Robbo going to persevere with Dunne, you can't just keep picking a guy cos he is fast, defending and passing brutal. Also I know he is a pain and the Sellik fans songbook a disgrace but some of comments aimed at Griffiths disgusting. I was at a funeral on Thursday of an ex work colleague who had mental health issues and committed suicide. Some folk want to look at Bigger picture before they open their gob

  6. Gallagher has made mistakes and will continue to make mistakes, and i’m pretty sure a few will make sure he knows it. Personally I think he’s an outstanding signing given our budget, for me the best of the summer signings by some way.

  8. what the fuck were the club doing in selling ' corporate hospItality' tickets to these scum today. this is not acceptable and just leads to trouble. also 20-30 0f the filth in the POD and causing trouble at the end of the game. a guy and his kid being abused leading up to club 100 and well fans walking by ignoring problem. Club need to sort out ticketing.

  10. I’m with you. Lot of people for giving it a go and the risk is you pay for that. Made some errors and got punished severely for it. Quite a step up for some of our new players. I’m thinking some overly negative reactions so far. We played some good stuff in spells and I think the likes of Hylton and siedorf will get better as they get used to the level. We started of very well but just couldn’t maintain our passing accuracy as the game went on. I’m not overly worried and think we are in better shape than we were at this point last year.

  11. After the match I have to scoot off into town on a train full of Celtic supporters to meet the Celtic supporting burd for dinner. I need a result today. Someone needs to tell these players failure is not an option today!

  13. A few posts suggesting we should have been more defensive or cautious. In much the same way as I thought the exclusion, and ultimate sale, of Danny Johnson inhibited our ability to switch formations in the second half of last season, so too does our recruitment in the summer. We really do seem to have set ourselves up to play this style whether it's against a Third Division side or the current Champions. That is going to be beneficial but at times it is really going to make life difficult for ourselves when you aren't 100% on it. For the first half an hour or so I'd say we pretty much were. The football we attempted to play was very easy on the eye. They were hemmed in and being passed around for long spells. But when we lost that edge around the half-hour mark the dominance we had enjoyed ebbed away. The timings of the loss of the first two goals were pretty critical. How would both teams have reacted had we been able to settle on that lead? We'd looked fairly assured in possession. Could we have eased the tempo a shade and looked to retain possession rather than going all guns blazing and some of the team seemingly burning themselves out very early on? And to go in behind at the break was as frustrating as it was unmerited. I don't know that our front three were just as ineffective as some are suggesting. They are certainly vital to that formation working effectively and they all played their part in a very good start to the game. But Hylton, Long and Seedorf looked fucked after about half an hour, which allied to Celtic gaining momentum as the game wore on saw us tail off considerably. I can understand it to a certain extent. Scottish football is easy to mock, and many south of the border do, but the intensity of some fixtures such as todays I suspect won't readily be replicated in the reserve leagues of English Premiership or non-league so readily. Being fit is one thing. Being sufficiently match fit to handle the intensity of the game here is something a bit different. So whilst the second half collapse is a concern, the individual mistakes that suggest poor decision making there were still a few positives to take. If being ran into the ground speeds up that process for two or three of them being "ready" and we can replicate and extend that opening half an hour for more and more of each game I would like to think we'll see more good results, and games for that matter, than bad.

  15. Only the manager can pick the midfield 3 - not the fans and not the players . He is also the one who has signed the players he did in the summer . He must have known we were short in there and he is the one that is trying to shoe horn a 3rd pick 2nd rate centre half come right back in there

  17. Theres more than enough room for any players relatives and sponsors in the boxes in the south stand and thats where they should be housed. There should be NO away fans in the POD regardless of whether they have bought hospitality or not as it's an accident waiting to happen

  18. First game of the season for me, and you’d have to go back to Mio or Buff for a centre half with Gallaghers composure.

  19. Was a few of them in the first section of the Hunter they sat very quiet but as was said shouldn't be there in the first place

  20. Agree to an extent, but surely the hospitality is bought by companies etc, so very hard to manage. There was one sitting not far away from me, but think he was a club official. Club tie and lanyard etc. Wasn't a problem. He obviously celebrated the goals, but was in earshot of my patter, so fair's fair.

  21. For all Lafferty is experienced at this level, someone else posted his stats a few weeks ago and I was surprised that they werent actually that good. Given that and the fact that he is a somewhat controversial character, Id rather we steered clear. At this stage I would Imagine we are looking at a loan deal. Hopefully we can strike gold and get some quality in, even if it is developing someone elses player.

  22. First Post on here, and agree with most of above.celtic huge step up in class and can only be a good thing for new players letting them know what's required re fitness, strength. Etc as we did look out muscled at times. Disappointed with result obviously but confident there's better to come. Gallagher a standout. Class act.

  23. No point in dwelling on who we didn't sign. The simple fact is we need to get in a decent number 9 before the window shuts it could make all the difference in our top 6 efforts. Young Scott has potential but he's too inexperienced to play well regularly.

  24. Celtic didn't start for 20 minutes. After they scored we fell out the game. At the moment there's no area of the park that is functioning so it's hard to pull out any positives.

  26. I’ve given negative and positives, you have said nothing positive and completely ignored the fact we were the better team for most of the first half against the best team in the league. Sorry I don’t exactly need any tips from you when you have already written off players after two league games, just the same way you did with Gorrin to name just one player last season. Show a bit of patience and give the team time to gel, we will be fine, you don’t need to go into this panic mode every season.

  28. Was Seedorf injured or just knackered? He looked absolutely done after 35 mins. Very good majority of 1st half and very poor all of the 2nd. Far too easy for Celtic to score some of those goals but ultimately they have much better players and thats what makes the difference. In desperate need of a striker to step up and make the position their own.

  29. We were outclassed all over the park from 30 minutes onwards, not before that where our midfield was the better of the two. I honestly think your level of negativity means you are not actually able to see anything positive. We had a very good 30 minutes and you appear to have been in the men’s toilet the whole time. I’m at the point of wondering if you are even attending games ?

  30. First 30 minutes we were the better team then Celtic started getting more and more on top, the game was as good as over when the second went in. I thought we were far to open and really you can’t do that with the quality of players that Celtic have. Second half we were just totally outclassed. Midfield shows promise for me, Polworth was excellent first 30 minutes or so and Donnelly not far behind against a midfield that’s better than anyone else in the league. Our two flying wingers were never in the game and we still desperately need a quality centre forward. I think we will be just fine again this season and Fridays game will give a better indication of where we are, time to start making better judgements then after two games on a none football pitch and a team on a different level to us squad wise.

  31. I'm no Sherlock Holmes but 'absolute pelters' from the stand would have been the cause of the nervousness I think. Why do football fans never learn that giving your own team pelters never works.
    1 point
  32. Probably Gillespie worst performance. He was getting absolute pelters in the first half for his distribution from the Cooper. He seemed very nervous. The free kick an amateur keeper could have saved without any problem. I was right behind it and everyone was shouting at him to cover his left side, then he went down in installments as the ball trundle slowly past him. My son said he was embarrassed seeing that one go in.

  33. I get that its early days and players are still finding there feet but its a little worrying, that's two games on the trot where our forward line has been completely anonymous.

  34. Not a surprise. Naive beyond belief. You just cannot play as open as we did today against Celtic. A much more disciplined approach was required. The goal before half-time took the wind out of our sails and we looked absolutely ragged by the end.

  35. FFS people moan when we give them to much respect, now you are moaning when we go at them with 3 up top, it's unreal. We scored 2 against the best team in the country who could probably take 5 off most teams in the league so people need to chill and accept we were 2nd best today but we gave it a go.
    1 point
  36. Easy to be critical. We gave it ago, but got beat from a better team. Yes we made mistakes, but that is expected. Sure we could have played more defensive, but the result would probably be the same. At least we scored and tried to entertain, which is what people wanted.
