  1. Rather than jumping two feet first into a tirade after the game, I decided to take a breath and put this into context. It’s utterly appalling that as a club, we have not managed to win against Rangers/ sevco in the league for 18 years - that’s one part of this. In what you can only assume is some sort of mental block, it’s a woefully embarrassing statistic. The performance today, itself, was absolutely appalling. As I commented early in the match, do I expect us to turn rangers over in every match, no, but do I expect us to compete - without a shadow of a doubt. Today, we showed no quality, leadership on or off the park, Grit, ideas or invention. ‘Flat’ did not cover it. Going out with a whimper at home is pathetic. For me, the performance today and Robinson’s subsequent comments were clearly indicative of a spiral of decline which is currently surrounding the Club. In context, we are playing in the middle of a pandemic so yes, there are no supporters and supporter finance (except season tickets and Ppv) but that doesn’t accurately portray a picture as to how/why we find ourselves in our current state as all clubs, bar the Old Firm, are bound by the financial uncertainties which no fans bring. The reality of the matter is this. Last season, we finished 3rd whilst budgeting for 10th and were awarded prize money as such. Yes, we missed out on some home gates however all things being equal, the club should have found itself on a relatively equal footing given that budgeting for 10th doesn’t mean playing the OF at home after the split. Factor is the transfer of James Scott and the announcement of being debt free, we arguably came into the start of the new season with as little impact on the overall, financially, as any club out with the arse cheeks of Glasgow. We released senior pros and large earners in both captain and deputy captain from contracts in the summer and brought in Lamie and White on Pre-contracts, as well as adding Mcginley, Hastie and Lang. We’ve sent our own youngsters on loan whilst bringing in loan players from other sides In the league in a questionable strategic move. We sold our biggest talent to a league rival and bowed out of Europe after netting 750k Euro in prize money, have our captain in the press saying survival is the only objective after 5 matches and meanwhile learn that yet another young prospect is likely gone before seeing First Team action. Throughout the course of all this, the pandemic means that unemployment is rising And times are hard for many, yet I, like most of us on here, will continually put hand in pocket every month to contribute towards the Society, giving what possible to support the club; knowing both the state of transfer fees and prize money generated. I’ve never been one for chanting about sacking a manager or criticizing Burrows but there comes a time, when as a supporter, you think, what’s the point? As Motherwell fan and attending Fir Park for 30 odd years, do I expect to win all the time, absolutely not, but I expect to be entertained or at least feel a sense of pride in the club. The looming apathy of all of the above was manifest in a single match today and thus it’s time for the club to take action. So, now, is a challenge to the Board. Do we believe in Robinson? If so, then as supporters I expect to be entertained and given the state of finance, money must be made available to allow him to bring players to do so. Or, as a board, do you not? If so, the time to act is now, to secure a new manager in time for making changes and new players under that person. Doing nothing will breed apathy and continue the spiral towards relegation which is becoming ever more a possibility. For a fan owned club in the current economic environment (despite the big selling of assets), that’s the biggest danger of all.

  2. By the letter of the law these days that’s a pen, watch the pens given down south over the weekend. Roy Hodgson got it spot on with his after match thoughts yesterday. Should it be changed yes, but it is what it is until they change it.

  3. Except for the play-off when he prepared us better and ran his press conferences better than any 'Well manager I can remember taking on an OF team.

  4. We're never going to compete with them over a season, but come on ffs, our individual performances against them are unacceptable. Other clubs are able to beat them regularly yet we see the same gutless performance against them that we've seen for the last twenty years. As I said, we are beat before a ball is kicked and we have the ready made excuse of they have a bigger budget ready made before hand.

  5. Budgets not attitudes are the thing. Budgets are exactly why the OF have been winning the league for decades. Exactly why only a handful of teams can win the CL. You can't tell me approaching 40 years of league domination by two teams is down to an attitude.

  6. Maguire wouldn't be any worse than some of the imposters that start every week, either give the boy a chance from the start or not at all, this bringing him on when others have already fucked the game for us is nonsense.

  7. Personally I think Hartley going was the right decision, we just failed to replace him.

  9. I think it just depends if that is part of the players game or not. We've had teams like that recently - 2017 2018 with Moult (then Main), Bowman, Kipre and Hartley etc and they managed 3 OF draws in the league and that semi-final win over Rangers. We also finished 7th that year so it wasn't an effective game plan against everyone. Our current group took us to 3rd and to say that they don't care seems really unfair. Liam Polworth is a good example of a player who fans think doesn't knock his pan in because he's not flying into tackles, yet he consistently covers more ground than any other Motherwell player. Hard tackling just isn't one of his strengths but you can't possibly doubt his commitment.

  10. Funnily enough I saw this report yesterday. He's still quite a long way off playing.

  11. Moving forward, who are the players we have that are going to dig us out a hole when it gets to the latter part of the season and we’re still in the mire? Who are the battlers? Who can be relied on to pop up with a goal? Do we have any players that actually give a shit about the club and will put their neck on the line? Or will we just stumble along bombscaring our way through the season?

  12. Perhaps we should just concede the three points and rest the players for the next match instead. It used to be that 3-0 would be awarded against the team who didn’t show up. Far better than losing 5 or 6 nil plus any bookings that you may incur. I wonder if this rule is still around, and can we utilise it please? To be honest I think most fans sadly write these games off, me included. I long for the days of wee Dougie Arnott, Brian Martin, Tommy Coyne etc battling for every ball and giving the likes of Celtic and Rangers a game. I get the impression that players these days are just happy to be in a paying job, and don’t care about the side that pays their wages.

  13. spot on YTS. Complete agree with the tippy tappy giving teams too much time to shape. My biggest worry is there's no one who'll come back from injury that will make much difference. Carrol is a decent left back , Donnelly might help as the holding midfield player but in the round can't see it being a game changer. We look like a team who's run out of idea's and our gaffer sounds like a man who's run out of ideas.

  14. I don’t think today is a day to be overly critical. Yes, the level of performance was pathetic but it wasn’t entirely surprising given the trip to Israel. Looking at the bigger picture though, there is little to get excited about. We are most likely to lose Campbell soon which will mark the end of an era where we excelled in the youth development department. We are then left with a mixed bag of players, few of whom we have any real affection for. The team may do well enough but one thing for sure is that we’ll rarely cause an upset against one of the big two. For whatever reason, the days of us raising our game against them seem to be long gone unfortunately.

  15. Maguire can't possibly be any worse in there. Unfortunately robinson seems hell bent on turning him into a defensive mid. Robinson had his arm forced into putting trust in youth last season and it saved his neck. Maybe it's time to try the same again?

  16. I feel for Watt. Works his arse off for nothing! Carson was our MOTM by miles, and the fact he is having conceded 5 shows how shite we are. Absolute worldy in 40 seconds and another 2 cracking saves stopped it being REALLY embarrassing. Maguire acquited himself well, pity he will be back on the bench next game

  17. Listening to Robbo spout the same old bollocks aftwr the game is just maddening. Talks a good game, but he is a snake oil salesman! His words mean fuck all when he refuses to address the coaching issues and drop the utter shite causing our poor results.

  18. Being THE ONLY team in the League not to beat Rangers in 18 fucking years is attitude. Livingston, Ross County even fucking Hamilton have beaten them recently. We continually fail to land a glove on them. Its fucking shameful, well it would be if a few of our players actually had any shame
    1 point
  19. Nobody but perhaps the other half is beating them regularly. You're telling me a team that finished 20+ points ahead of third place in a season that wasn't even finished are being beaten regularly by anybody? This season, look at that table. Just 9 games gone and they have a +19 GD. And nobody has beaten them. They're not the competition for anybody but Celtic.

  20. When I got a notification we'd scored I actually wondered if one of our strikers scored it. Then I clicked on it, saw, and realised what ridiculous things go through your head.

  21. I can handle getting beat, its part of being a well fan. And I understand losing to Rangers as they have far better players than Us! However results like today make me fucking sick. An absolute tanking and yet Rangers have barely put any effort in and we have gifted then FIVE goals. 2 really poor penalties, 2 pieces of shocking defending from Lamie & 1 trademark soft goal from a corner/cross. Its embarrassing

  22. This is getting embarrassing now If you want to play 3 at the back you’ve got to have the players to do it. A rock solid solid centre half (Hartley) and 2 players with pace either side of him Kipri and Dunne Unfortunately we have none of these in this squad

  23. Our options from the bench are embarrassing, you just know that none of them will have any impct

  28. Something has got to change. I don’t expect us to pump rangers but I expect it to be a competition. We are devoid of ideas, a plan, energy and quality. From management to playing staff, this is the worst in many, many years. Simply unacceptable.

  30. There was always a risk of a hangover today and so it’s proved. No complaints over the Rangers penalties but Campbell should have had one too. Tactically, a back 3 was always asking for trouble against 3 forwards but whatever the shape, we’re having to rely on an out of sorts Gallagher and O’Donnell alongside a dumpling who was presumably brought in as cover. Keep it respectable Motherwell.

  31. I totally agree with the other points you make but i actually think letting hartley and tait go was the right decision,we probably had as good as we were going to get out them,it's been our recruitment over the summer that's been the problem, not one signing looks like they have anything to offer an added to some of the dross that's already here then we really are in trouble.
    1 point
  32. We don't have the quality in the team and the players who are half decent are devoid off confidence because of the dross around them. We're playing essentially with 7 players. Should never have punted Hartley.

  33. Agree we are brutal. No belief, heart or energy. We are so bad, i feel nothing anymore about this team. Those making up these hand ball laws are having a laugh and destroying the game as any competition. Rather than trying to create we would be as well as firing the ball at the opponents arms! We shoud have had two penalties for a blatant push in the back, and dangerous follow through from their defender on Watt. But as we aint the old firm we are never getting those decisions. Is their any point in following scottish football and motherwell any more? Any decent youngsters we try to bring through are now being snapped up before they even play for the reserves never mind the first team. We are then left to cherry pick with other scottish clubs for the dross that has failed in the lower end of the english leagues.

  41. The logic is difficult though, we just can’t compare different things. Why can this happen when this can’t? That is not the point. It is all choices and compromises. We can’t do everything, we need to pick which things we do. Everyone’s vested interests means that in their eyes the wrong things are chosen to open up. The things we have chosen to open up and our approach to that as a society has led to a recent increase in infections. That might be a good thing or bad thing depending on your viewpoint but it does create a danger to certain elements of our population.

  44. It does, but you've gone a little beyond "pointing out" In the space of a couple of posts alone you have alleged that they are going to ignore evidence from other countries when it comes to the re-introduction of supporters and suggesting that their messages are deliberately simplistic with the inference being that they are doing so to garner votes for an election eight months away.

  45. I don't know but he maybe looked at your dig at the Scottish Government, your listing the date of the Scottish Parliamentary elections and had a sneaky suspicion from that you were being political.

  46. So you confirm your approach is mainly Political. Good to have that confirmed once and for all. Social gatherings of any description can lead to rising infection rates. That's a fact you cannot deny. There are numerous examples in sport and elsewhere, in the UK and overseas. Some have been listed but you choose to ignore that evidence to suit your own purposes. As another example, a charity football match in England resulting in a requirement for 300 folk to isolate. Restricting Social Gatherings across all settings is a sensible response as is trying to find an economic and mental health balance. Until an effective vaccine is available to all, I hope our Club and our Government continue to take a cautious and realistic approach.

  47. Football is irrelevant in the scheme of things. Socially and psychologically it would be great to get to matches but there is a bigger picture. And from a financial point of view, it would be a drain on the Club for little purpose. No income whatsoever as attendance limited to existing Season Ticket holders and no retail outlets open. Furloughed staff brought back to facilitate opening the ground plus Police and Steward costs. There is a reason our club is not pushing this. The Club has a structure that is coping fairly well, so why change that. And as for outdoor events, there is no guarantee of safety with regard to CoVid. There is no bigger an outdoor sporting event than Cheltenham Races and that did not work out well. And an outdoor Rugby event in Italy was the source of many of the original infections in this country. Travelling and socialising are part of sport and that will happen if fans are allowed back, regardless of any guidelines. But as you wish to push your Political agenda, how many track and trace findings identifying football attendance as the source do you think it would take to enable shutting down sport at all levels indefinitely?

  48. Thats exactly the attitude to take, as has been proved by all the new students not giving a feck and getting mad with the bevvy and whatever else during freshers week and spreading the virus. Assume the worst case scenario and legislate accordingly, peoples health and lives are more important than fans getting to watch football.
