  1. I've seen this line about not wanting to sign players from whatever level a few times recently and it's nonsense. Gallagher and Lamie both came from the same Premiership club but received very different receptions. One was obviously a good signing and the other wasn't. It's the same situation with Polworth and White from ICT in the Championship. Going back a few years Moult came from a lower level than Wes Fletcher but looked the better signing of the two. I haven't seen anyone saying we should ignore any source of players but all signings are going to be judged on their careers so far until we get a good look at them playing for us. If the overall balance is towards poor quality then as we have it have seen this season it can drag us down to level of Accies and below St Mirren which shouldn't be acceptable to anyone involved with the club.

  2. It would be quite funny if Marv and Fringes knew each other and didn’t realise it. I quite enjoy the snippets of “in the know” information, so keep them coming both of you please.

  3. Funny how they spent years failing in Europe cos the rest of us were shite.

  4. I thought it had been decided his signings were rank or they didn't want to be here. Surely we should be actively encouraging him to raid us for players in the summer!

  5. There are a few on here that struggle with the concepts of reality and fantasy, ie expecting to sign quality , high scoring, players in the January window, and on wages we can afford. GA's only job for now is to avoid relegation, we can do the full rebuild in the summer.

  6. Ahh, okay. I didn’t realize asking for ambition and aspiration was now ‘a load of shite’. Noted

  7. He said he had to bring a young player on and we lost a goal. That indirectly blames the young player for losing the goal, but more importantly isnt true. He didnt have to bring the young player on. He had numerous other options to bring on other more experienced players, but HE chose to put the young player on. The blame lies at his door for that and he is trying to make out that he was out of options. Its just not true, which is why it annoyed me so much.

  8. Indeed. A point I've also made to some of their support in conversation over our last couple of meetings. They're the first to whine about lack of competition domestically when they get papped out. However present them with the challenge of having to break down a team who are holding the lead and they squeal like pigs because you aren't set up in a manner that let's them steamroller you.

  10. You certainly weren't wasting your time promoting youths. You were however being somewhat unrealistic in expecting a conveyor belt style of first-team ready youths to be ready and waiting as and when required.

  11. Fair play to St.Mirren a good three points. First time they have beaten them at Celtic Park since 1990.

  12. No one objected to signing Moult, Aldred, Cole, Carson or Hartley so that is nonsense. Other players like Carroll or McGinley have a question mark over them which can be removed by solid performances (or not in the case of McGinley). Another good example is Tait and Clay who joined from Grimsby at the same time. Tait was clearly the better signing on paper and it worked out that way.

  13. So any news of potential incomings, my definitely not accusing you of being ITK friends? Feel free to be cryptic as you like, bored as hell.

  14. Aye 4-2 was at both games. What I remember is Rangers supporters just pissing all over the east terrace .And at Ibrox a Rangers fan launching an empty bottle down the terracing , the police came up a few minutes later asked if anyone know or saw anything. Nobody said a word , I knew after that tie what I had always suspected that Rangers fans are a bunch of scum bastard's.

  15. To be fair, if I was the new gaffer charged with getting the first team sorted out, punting dead wood and trying to bring in new players all in the space of 10 days, the academy and the youth players would be low priority. Job number one is to make sure we aren't relegated. Job number two is "see job number one".

  17. I've only recently started commenting on here after a lengthy self imposed exile, but I think I'll refrain from getting involved in all the cryptic shite in future, not worth the hassle. I fully get the discretion part, I'm not expecting names or anything, but to strongly allege at a problem within the club with regards to the management teams interest in the club's youth players or system, then baulk completely at the first very post asking for any explanation of sorts, seems to beg the question why make any sort of comment in the first place? Not having a dig, or starting an argument btw...

  18. Which part exactly? The part about us not bringing in clear starters or the part about us being potentially relegated? Or maybe it was the part about us not clearly investing despite posting profits and knowingly having 3-4 million in player money and European prize money in the next financial year? We’ve moved on 1 player that was signed as a number 9 and brought in 3 as replacement.

  19. OK. Pretty sure. Like you knew for a fact contract details, that may or may not have been correct? There is far more to the story. Get your source on to it.

  21. The report on that shameful game which sticks in my mind was Ian Archer's in The Herald where he just stopped short of accusing the ref, JRP Aerosol of Gordon on Tay of blatant cheating. His report began with the poetic reference (well, it was The Herald, when it was a newspaper) "April is the cruellest month", for all you lovers of T.S. Eliot's poetry out there . That match, and the 3-5 game at FP after The Hens rioted when we were 2-0 up, merely confirmed to me what a dreadful institution that club is. I remember Andy Lynch's goals because that was one of the few occasions I stood in the enclosure ablaw the main stand. Laughed my weee C&A socks off that night.

  22. I feel Robbo is a bit full of himself, yes brought us highs and one of his best signings who was Aldred. However some of his comments riled me, the he couldn't handle another transfer window, basically cos he made an arse of the last one, the Mcginley has great attributes eh? And the Cornelius comment which was ridiculous. Robbo started games with guys that should be nowhere near first team. Anyway he isnt manager now and we all get behind GA who I think will be a great appointment

  23. Not my experience with him. Jim Reynolds was the only newspaper journalist who gave an accurate account of the 'travesty'surrounding our Scottish Cup semi final defeat to Rangers in 1976 and in particular the questionable motives of the referee. He voluntarily reaffirmed this many years later to me as did 2 broadcasting journalists who were present. Contrast Reynolds with the other press at the time who were slavering and sychophantic towards Rangers regarding their ' win'.

  25. It's bad enough bickering with other fans on a forum, but to actually argue with players and their families on twitter is peak weirdo.

  26. That was a squad that I think also included John Gardiner, John Reilly, Derek Murray and Gordon Mair. So he was in good company.

  28. With less than 48 hours to go, you can’t help but feeling entirely underwhelmed by the business we have done. There’s no significant increase in quality as yet (yes, lawleff is better than seedorf but who isn’t). IMO we went into this window needing a minimum 3/4 players of significant superior quality to what we have - bodies that would come straight into the first 11. Not only to help us escape a relegation battle but to also galvanize the support and give us a backbone as we heads into a summer whereby we stand to loose 3-4 of our bigger names (though arguably some of the poorer performers recently). Lawleff was / is always/should be a squad player, Smith seems decent but again isn’t a focal point or a nailed on starter and Foley is somewhat of a baffling signing given he’s 34, hardly kicked a ball all season and is on a short term deal. We could have/should have invested in this window however I can’t help but feel we’re doing the absolute minimum as a club to hopefully squeeze out a 10th placed finish. The abundance of dead wood remains, to be cleared in the summer. All of which amounts to the most monumental rebuild I can remember, with the distinct possibility of an almost unrecognizable starting 11 next season - that doesn’t hold much hope for a team that might be chasing promotion.
