  1. Not sure I share your enthusiasm. Good news in the short term, but as soon as restrictions are lifted it should be binned and focus turned to innovative ways to get more folk through the turnstiles.

  2. OK, we got the 3 points, but the approach to the second half was ridiculous. Some will say that it served a purpose, but if we can't take control of a game against a 10 man Hamilton side I don't know where we go from here. Ultimately, where is the entertainment. Where is the desire to entertain? Why should any of us buy a season ticket next year when the entertainment on show this season has been so, so poor? Glad of the 3 points, great that we are staying in the top league, but a plea to Motherwell FC, please, please, please remember this is a sport, but it is also meant to entertain.

  3. The only entertaining thing for me in the past 4 months is the league table tonight and Hibs away. The rest has been like paying £1,000 for a lapdance and yer maw comes out

  4. Entertainment goes out the window when you need points to avoid relegation. We beat a team that's hammered us three times already, and on a shite park, and we've all but relegated them. I'll take it.

  5. What a fucking ridiculous yellow card from the referee. The quality of officiating in this country is fucking tragic.

  6. You also have to take into account the nostalgia factor. We all miss our youth, and anything that reminds us of that has a special place in our hearts. Thats why music these days is generally shite!

  7. There is a fairly fine line between "better" and "different". Facilities are safer and that has to be a good thing. Crowds have gone down though, as the price/cost of football has increased, to at least partly pay for these changes The changes in society throughout this time cannot be discounted with regard to how they changed the match day experience - from large scale unemployment to the increase in other competing leisure activities, from a greater understanding of health and safety risks to a decreased sense of local community and the corresponding link to local sporting teams. The question of whether players were better is already subjective before you take into account any changes in coaching, fitness and speed. Whilst agreeing that their have been advances in all these areas, I do tend to think that the improvement in these areas has not necessarily resulted in an improved final product. Another possible issue in any comparison can be the nature of the evidence available. In the 1970s only two games a week were televised. Motherwell might only be on television ten times a year. Now every match is just about available and we see every excruciating moment if we are braver enough, this season anyway. I am also of the opinion that this season, without crowds through Covid restrictions, deserves to be discounted. Yes, we have played pretty dreadfully, but the games without crowds are just so lacking in atmosphere and spectacle that they should be seen as a, hopefully short lived, aberration.

  9. I thought the corners were ok today, perhaps a bit deep. They are giving each other the space to get the ball across rather than rolling it 18 inches.

  10. 100% The football has been pretty awful these past few weeks but we have been winning. I can still remember back to the first few games of the season when we were dominating possession, playing some decent football and creating many chances and losing to the likes of Ross County, Accies and Dundee United. That is now 17 games under Alexander and only 5 defeats. I also believe we have not lost when we have gone ahead in that time. So when all is said and done he has been a very good appointment so far.

  15. There's more chance we will finish above dundee utd than any of the teams below catching us,it's not the greatest achievement but we should be going all out for 7th place now.

  17. Didnt realise it was a 6pm kick off so missed the first half! 2nd half was pretty brutal. Far too pedestrian against 10 men. Why Alexander didnt make more changes after a tough 120mins on Friday night beggars belief. Some fresh legs up front against 10 men would have given them something to think about. I totally underdtand starting 3-5-2 to match them in midfield and get Long more involved through the middle. But 2nd half was screaming for 4-3-3 with Lawless and Hastie supporting Cole ( taking Long off was the correct decision as he was a red card waiting to happen). That all said, it is a great 3 points. Even if Killie were to win tonight and win their remaining 3 and we lost all 3 it would take Ross County to win their games and goal difference to put us in the play off spot. Thats not gonna happen so we can relax now. Hopefully Roberts will be fit for Saturday. We will need him if we are gonna have any chance of getting past Hibs.

  18. We are mathematically safe from automatic relegation, and if Killie don't win tonight we will be safe from the playoff spot as well

  20. Now the genie is out of the bottle it's going to be impossible putting it back in, and rather than removing options for viewing games (which is a real lifeline for lots of people) clubs should be focused on making sure there are more reasons than ever to attend games in person. One of those reasons, imo, is having a fans group like the Bois. Win lose or draw, these guys have a great time and are a draw for young fans all on their own. I'd wager a lot of life long Well fans will start in the Bois, and the club should be doing everything they can capitalise on it.

  22. OTF not a fan of OHara. I am for exactly that reason. He is a decent midfielder and also a viable goal threat. 1-0 up and Accies down to 10 men. What could possible go wrong....

  26. Agree with that, the first goal is crucial tonight. If we get it, especially early doors then I’d be reasonably confident of us getting the points but if it goes the other way, given our dreadful record of scoring equalising goals this season then we’ll be in trouble.

  27. completely with you. This is the formation and players (who are fit) that I would pick. Enough to persuade me to shell out and watch the game

  28. Apart from the the ugly sisters and their Edinburgh cousins the number of away fans turning up at Fir park is poor seems to be the dedicated hard-core supporters who will always turn up. Making all matches available on PPV is going to decrease those numbers even further, how many Aberdeen, Ross county ,Dundee untd fans etc are going to travel to Fir park on a freezing wet midweek night or weekend to see the game? Given the option of paying £12 instead of £20 plus travel costs, food etc its a no brainer, they will stay at home. The live streaming was a sensible option for this season given the circumstances, but long term it will discourage fans from attending matches and clubs will suffer. In my opinion there is already too much football on TV, but the SFA/ SPFL and clubs have sold their souls to Sky and the other broadcasters in search of more and more cash to a point where its now the broadcasters deciding when games get played, not for the clubs or fans benefit but to meet their schedules. We have already seen this week the greed of the so called elite clubs and their owners to create a closed shop and try to get more cash from the TV companies with no thought for the fans. Live broadcasts and streaming of games has to be available in the modern game, clubs need the money, but they need to get the balance right or what we have seen this season might become the norm,

  29. I grew up and in Hamilton and I know lots of Accies fans (maybe even all of them...). Reminds me of the old joke about the fan standing at Douglas Park when the bloke next to him says "Are you staying still the final whistle?" "Aye - I'll be here for the full 90" "Great" he says, handing him some keys, "do you mind locking up?"

  30. You can have a direct comparison on things like stadiums, facilities , pitches etc and they are all better in every respect. As for the players its a bit more difficult, today's players are faster, fitter, better prepared and coached than the 70's players, they train harder etc so in that respect they are better. However you can't compare like for like re individual ability as the game has changed so much since then, we all like to think that when we saw the like of Wark, Pettigrew etc play for Motherwell they were great, and at the time they were but they can't be compared with today's players as the game has changed so much. So having started watching Motherwell in the late 60's early 70's I would have to say sometimes going to Fir Park or an away ground was a pretty miserable experience , in terms of facilities and the football on offer. Today's match day experience is light years away from that, we still get a good amount of miserable afternoons football wise, but at least we are comfier watching it.

  31. Well yes, if you want to pick and choose your criteria, there was certainly plenty to moan about back then and some change was necessary. Grounds are safer, marginally nicer, quieter and more expensive places to be. The pitches were obviously much worse and, I'd argue, the players were better, but less well remunerated. On a broader level, it is probably unfair to compare ifferent footballing periods without an understanding of the societal changes that have occurred, otherwise the lack of context makes any such comparison both pointless and meaningless.

  32. That was the best time ever. Guys mostly playing for the love of the game and no fancy 4 3 1 2 or 3 5 2 just go out and play.

  33. Yes I agree with that, but that’s really my point on him moving on from us for the sake of his career and development now. If he seriously wants to challenge and improve himself further then I think it’s now time for him to test himself at a higher level.
