I have no idea about this but in terms of gametime he's 2 games behind others. At Airdrie he was given 90 minutes straight away. Yes, he's been poor so far but last season he was quite good at LB. Stephen O'Donnell has also been poor defensively, but he has had other issues (international fatigue?). Admittedly O'Donnell has been better in an attacking sense. A lot may also be down to the way we play, leaving the wings exposed. Its not easy being a FB at Motherwell. Jake Carroll was hardly a roaring success in our first 2 games. We need to cut McGinley and others some slack just now, although that can't go on forever. It'll take a few weeks until we can properly assess all the players. New players coming in and gelling; others regaining fitness and so on.

People moaning about 433 need to have a look at what 343 does for your midfield. Effectively a 523 today. To play 343, your two wide men up top need to be players that will drop into midfield or you end up outnumbered in there. Whatever qualities Woolery and Amaluzor possess, dropping into to solidify the midfield isn't one of them. If the centre forward is being asked to do it, make it Watt as his passing is better than Van Veen's... I don't think we have the players for 343. I felt sorry for Donnelly and Maguire today. Hung out to dry by the manager....

Yes, there’s a thread on him on the Tranmere forum, probably the usual rubbish and more the fact Mellon went back to Tranmere. Although the mention of a 3 year deal is strange.

As Lamie showed at the end of last season as well... he is good in the air and if he keeps it simple and cuts out what looks like casualness or a lack of concentration, then he can be a very decent player for us.

It's certainly possible - he was decent last season, which is why I surprised his form had dipped so much the last couple of games. I'd have been tempted to keep Carroll at left back, but if it is only fitness lacking, maybe GA thought game time is what was required.

What would people’s opinions be on looking at Lewis Macleod, ex rangers, Brentford, wigan and Plymouth ? Currently without a club and a Lanarkshire lad. He’s unfortunately injury prone, but there is a cracking player there if he could stay fit….. even on a month to month if that worked for both parties

Don't see a MoTM thread yet, but on the other end of the scale I thought McGinley was poor in the Airdrie game and poor again today. He's been easy to beat defensively and his passing when he comes forward has been even worse. I don't expect players to be on top form at this point of the season, but was surprised at his lack of form so far.
