  1. As a long time Motherwell fan I know never to expect a win. Dundee have made it very difficult for us this season and even though Motherwell have hit a wee bit of form, I don't expect today to be an easy ride. My heart says we'll win, but my head isn't so sure. Stick with the same starting 11 and see how it goes. We now have some quality on the bench that can change games.
  2. Best performance for a long time. Lamie and Mugabi were superb throughout. The high press really worked today. Hearts worked through it very well on a few occasions, but the back line were always there to snuff out any danger. I feel that a big difference today was that the strict three lines of 433 were broken by having Maguire drop between the midfield and back line at times. He was able to break things up as well as provide a link from the back line into midfield when we inevitably won the ball back. An all round very good performance led by the pressing by the front line, industry throughout the team and a masterclass at the back from Lamie. More of the same please!
  3. What can you say about yet another brutal performance. We are by far the worst team in the league to watch. Every other team appears to be technically better on the ball and better at moving off the ball. Our brand of football is awful to watch. We are outplayed every week. It is a small miracle that we have the points that we do so far. I long for a game where we dominate possession and look like a well drilled, capable team.
  4. The conditions are not too bad. St.Mirren seem to be coping just fine. Reality is that we can't pass the ball and we don't have movement to help each other either.
  5. Another shocking display so far where we offer nothing. Practically a 7 man defence for the whole of the first half. 25yards from midfield to front line. No hope of winna second ball or joining the forwards if they manage to hold it. Only Watt showing anything in the front line. Something has to change at half time or our losing streak will continue.
  6. I'm not a big fan of Donnelly, but he made a really big contribution when he came on. His composure and simple, accurate passing saw us start to get on the front foot a bit.
  7. Exactly that. I'm hoping that we'll see some more football played through rather than over the midfield at some point this season.
  8. There really isn't much to add to what others have said. This was probably the best performance of the season so far. We do seem to take time to get up to speed in a match, but after the initial 20mins today we started to get a grip of the game which culminated in a superb goal. The second half was very much Motherwell being willing to give up territory while being dangerous in the counter. When the second came it looked like it could be more. However, Alexander isn't about to chase goals. He chose to protect what we had and Motherwell comfortably saw out the remainder of the game. There were no failures on the pitch for Motherwell today. Special mention to Mugabi who is really starting to get to grips with the right back position, Solholm was absolutely solid, excellent considering this was his debut. Up front Van Veen, Watt and Woolery terrorised the Aberdeen back line any time that they got good possession in the mid to final third. Let's hope that is the level of performance that we have to look forward to this season. One final point, the atmosphere at Fir Park these days is electric. Let's keep it up through thick and thin.
  9. At the time I didn't think that Carroll's challenge was anything but a good tackle, however having seen it on TV earlier, I think that the ref actually got it right. A yellow may have done, but in today's football where tackles seem to be outlawed, but shirt tugging and wrestling in the box are accepted, it is no surprise that it was red.
  10. I have to agree. We seem unable to see make a pass, unable to make space, unable to move , unable to play as a team. However, how much of the problems stem from a rigid 4-3-3? We consistently allowed Dundee to play through and between our lines; we were seemingly over-run in midfield.
  11. Great result, but there is a lot to be concerned about by the level of performance. Let's hope that we can get a few quality signings in before the window closes or it'll be another long hard season devoid of entertainment.
  12. Ojala easily beaten on the ground again. I hope his aerial game is top notch.
  13. Justin did put his hand on the back of the Livi player. Easy then for the ref to give a free kick to Livi to take the controversy out of his decision to halt the game immediately at that point.
  14. The ref saved Justin the embarrassment of missing.
  15. I'm expecting us to lose a goal now.
  16. Woolery with a ridiculously poor effort when put through by Grimshaw.
  17. Yes, very depressing watch as a Motherwell fan. Some serious business required before the transfer window closes. Beyond that, there is a huge coaching job to be done to create a team from what we will have.
  18. Half time and nothing to shout about from a Motherwell perspective. It is difficult to see how we will get anything from this game if the pattern of play doesn't change. We have created nothing. We have no cohesion between the defence, midfield or front line. We have a very soft defence that will most likely lose another goal in the second half. Changes needed, but we just don't have the personnel.
  19. A total waste of Tony Watt in that position on his own. Justin and Woolery are just not able to make anything happen or link with Watt in any meaningful sense.
  20. So much space all over the pitch for Livingston. Motherwell are all at sea. Nothing working in any area of the pitch.
  21. Extremely poor defending again. We never seem to learn to defend the edge of our box.
  22. I agree with a number of people posting on here. I actually like the top, but it really isn't Motherwell. Give me an all white strip with some claret and amber trim every time - very smart.

What a game O'Donnell had tonight. Top class! Well done Stephen O'Donnell.
  24. In many ways it is the season that never was. Watching the whole season unfold on TV, with no fans at the games and no atmosphere has highlighted how poor the quality of the Scottish game has become. There was very little quality football played and not very much to get excited about. Let's hope that next season sees better football played, with fans in their seats creating an atmosphere that motivates the players. COYW.
