  1. Rarely post here but to chip in on the Morris signing - on the off chance folk don't look at the thread on P&B.

    He's not a winger. Burrows confirmed this on Twitter here after he was announced.

    He's not a striker either. From 316 games tagged 207 were at left midfield.

    Also, he's played 158 games for Alexander scoring 42 goals with 31 assists. Which I'd say is quite good for a midfielder but maybe I'm just easily impressed.

    Slattery was our best midfielder at the start of the season by some way, certainly not lazy. Something happened between him and Alexander given he could not even make the squad at times.  Maybe not the best trainer but with better around him he has more to offer.

    Slattery only failed to make the squad once - on 26th December against Livi when he was suspended.

    He started 28 games, was subbed on in 6 and was an unused sub in 8. So from the point he signed he was in the match day squad for 42 of 43 games.

    He played the 6th most minutes of the squad behind Kelly, O'Donnell, Mugabi, Van Veen and Woolery.

    This is true but half a mill isn't that much if they're looking for goals.

    How much did we get for Moult with 6 months left on his deal? I think 350k?

    The accounts from that season show "Player registration gains" of £1,036,412 - "This primarily came from the sales of defender Ben Heneghan to Sheffield United, and in January, striker Louis Moult to Preston North End."

    It was reported at the time that Moult was "in the region of" £500k - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42353648

    The transfer window only applies to transfers between clubs, so as his Motherwell contract has been cancelled he is now a free agent with no club and can therefore sign for any other club he likes at any time.

    That would only apply if we had cancelled his contract before the last window shut. It's why you see as many players get their contracts mutually consented on deadline day to allow them to sign for a new club outside the window and also why it's fairly uncommon for players to mutually consent outside a window.

    We didn't. He was still registered Motherwell player when the last window shut (he was literally in the team photo a fortnight ago).

    So while yes, he's a free agent now he can't play for another club until January unless he moves to a club where their transfer window is open.

    Is he allowed to sign for another club given it was after the window closed?

    Unless he's going to a league who have an open window he can't play for another club until the January window opens, no.

    I suppose there's nothing to stop him provisionally signing for another club but they'd be paying him two and a half months wages to come into training and I don't think his player registration could be transferred until the next window opens anyway.

    Did not to bad with this “all black”  3rd kit template……….would be nice with a C&A trim/badge

    Roma pretty much did that in 12/13.

    Bit off topic, but does anyone know if Lasley is still part of the coaching team? Don't remember seeing anything official that he'd left, but haven't seen anything of him lately.

    He's with Alexander and Boles at 2:31 of this video from the other week.

    Have to say that was my thoughts as well, that Carson might have fitness problems, let’s hope we have added 2+2 and got 20!

    On the player transfer or sorry non player transfer activity I would have thought that we have some kind of update from the club by now, I can guess it will be difficult to find replacements for Campbell and Gallagher but I am sure they will be working on it but will not be easy?

    Rarely post here anymore but Mr. Burrows spends 20 odd minutes (possibly more) giving a comprehensive update on everything club related on the most recent MFC Podcast.

    Here's a link in case any of you are interested/missed it (it was only a post on P&B that brought it to my attention): https://open.spotify.com/episode/6q21Uk47ehl3IuH7k8VfGe?si=fdf6f7db17184025

    That is my concern. Celtic have an operating model and sell ons are not usually part of that. Until someone from MFC confirms that we have some sort of sell on ( even if the exact % figure is a state secret) I will seriously doubt one exists. Time will tell I guess.

    The Herald and the Sun mentioned “a substantial sell on” as part of the Norwich offer. Might have missed it, but I have seen no such mention regarding any Celtic offer. And the Club were quick enough to tell us of sell on clauses for the likes of Marvin Johnson and.... I think....Cedric Kipre.

    I still think £3m is a great return for Turnbull though.

    When the story of the Norwich offer broke it was reported as being the same as offered by Celtic including sell on % (see tweet from the PA below)

    I've no idea for certain what the agreement is but given absolutely everything else associated with the deal was leaked to the press and it's been a staple of our business model to include sell on clauses then I'd say there's a fair chance there's something there..

    I'm happy to stand corrected here but even if there was no official sell on clause we'd still be due 5% of any future sale due to FIFA's solidarity training payment.

    Also, FWIW: United received a sell on from Celtic when Armstrong was sold to Southampton:

    Reading the article seems to suggest it's cut and dried, we've offered a new contract so if anyone signs Hastie we're entitled to 400 grand development compensation.

    Is it as cut and dried as that?  Not really sure how these things work but if it's so black and white why the dispute over the compensation fee when Lewis Ferguson joined Aberdeen after leaving the Accies?

    Pretty much. There are pretty formal criteria that contribute to establishing the fee. There are also precedents in that we've received development compensation for former players in similar circumstances: Erwin, Hall etc.

    The reason for the dispute between Aberdeen and Accies was Aberdeen thought they could get Ferguson for £80k or something like that and Accies decided to dig their heels in and be difficult because tbh, why not. It's worth being a difficult when Aberdeen were low balling In the end Aberdeen had to pay £238k. In itself that's a bargain of sorts as Ferguson's come good but it's near enough 3x what they thought they'd be paying.

    The full details of clauses are pages 55-61 here but the key ones are below:

    Quote

    F7 If, after the expiry of the term of his Contract of Service a Professional Player, to whom an offer in terms of Rules F5 and F6 has been made which is not accepted by him, is Registered for a new Club in circumstances where Rule F3 applies, then that new Club shall be liable to pay Compensation to the Player's former Club

    F8 If Clubs are unable to reach agreement on the amount of Compensation payable then either of the Clubs concerned or the Board shall have the right, at any time, to have any Compensation payable, if any, determined by a Compensation Tribunal.

    F9 In the event of the two Clubs concerned not reaching agreement on the amount of any Compensation payable, the new Club must, on the date of Scottish FA Registration or, if later, on the date of any first offer of Compensation, pay to the Player's former Club at least 50% of the highest amount offered or, as the case may be, offered, plus VAT at the standard rate. All offers of Compensation shall be in writing and shall be copied to the Secretary by recorded delivery post when they are sent to the Player’s former Club. In the event that the amount of Compensation ordered to be paid by a Compensation Tribunal is less than the amount previously paid in terms of this Rule F9 or if no Compensation is ordered to be so paid then the Club which has received such payment shall be liable to forthwith repay as a debt the amount overpaid or, where no payment is so ordered to be paid, the amount paid, to the Club which made such payment.

    At Tribunal the criteria are as follows:

    Quote

    F22 The criteria are:-

    F22.1 the age of the Player;
    F22.2 the amount of any transfer fee or Compensation paid by the Club losing the player’s Scottish FA Registration when acquiring the Scottish FA Registration of the Player;
    F22.3 the length of time during which the Club losing the player’s Scottish FA Registration held the Scottish FA Registration of the Player;
    F22.4 the terms of the new contract offered to the Player by each of the Clubs;
    F22.5 the Player’s playing record in club and international team appearances; and,
    F22.6 substantiated interest shown by other clubs in acquiring the services of the Player.

    Been looking online, finding retro Motherwell kits isn't exactly easy, Ebay is full off the kits dating back to the zoom airlines sponsorship which are by no means classics. Does anyone have anything they would be willing to part with from the 90's.

    Depends how much you're wanting to pay...

    There are a few 90s shirts here: https://www.shirtsofexcellence.co.uk/shop/shop.php?page=2&pn=motherwell (there's a 94/95 away shirt there)

    Also Classic Shirts though they're more 00s onwards https://www.classicfootballshirts.co.uk/nsearch/?q=motherwell#?keywords=motherwell&search_return=all&sort_by_field=Oldest+Season

    Its a tricky one.  I think he was given a year's deal last summer? We've been down this route before and handed out 2/3 year deals to the likes of Luke Watt and Dom Thomas.  Young players might have all the talent in the world but have they the temperament and attuitude to make it in the first team?  Thats a tough call to make with an untried youngster.

    I'm glad that fans, including those who post online, are taking a more realistic view of young Turnbull's contract negotiations.  I think thats a direct result of more becoming shareholders in our club; attending AGMs; and listening to the club's point of view which wasn't always widely known or publicised in the past.  In years gone by an agent would stir it in one of the redtops and claim that the club was being insulting and disrespectful to players in negotiations and that would be enough to fire up some fans who would simply swallow that and have a real go at the club.  Now they are realising that there's two sides to the negotiations.

    Nope. He signed a 2 1/2 year deal  in 2016. https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2016/12/16/midfielder-turnbull-extends-contract/

    Highly unlikely the player questioned was subject to any bid nor likely to be on our radar as 'the forward thar was being talked about '...

    Huge fan of this btw. Not even joking, you've 100% made my afternoon.

  14. The home one is a pretty heavy comedown from last season.

    It's fine but they absolutely nailed last season's so for me this one suffers in comparison and there are wee things I keep seeing in it that I'd change. Nothing major but a claret trim on a crew neck rather than the cut out they've used and the same sort of trim on the cuffing on the sleeves would have finished it off nicely IMO.

    I still maintain that white shorts don't go with an amber shirt but I'm guessing we've gone with that because we've got claret shorts with the away kit so it's better than an all amber job.

    I'm all about the away though, largely because I like Roma kits and I also like the fact they've so openly taken that as an inspiration. So kudos for that.

    As for the 'unique' patter I think it's another case of people reading far too much into things and going wild with their expectations. Personally I just took 'unique' to mean bespoke detail so the stuff like the 1886 deboss and the detail on the claret band ticks that box. It seemed clear we weren't planning on doing anything radical.

    I interpreted the interview differently and thought if we were to sign one norward, it would ideally be someone with a bit of pace that can do a job wide. A O’Halloran style player.

    Aye. That may well be how it pans out in the end. We'll just need to wait and see who actually signs but either way there was no explicit mention of a winger.

  16. 8 hours ago, fizoxy said:

    He def said that he needed another winger and striker, or someone who could do both. Just like Petravicius.

    He didn't. People have just heard that statement and conflated the striker and 'wide player' remark and assumed he meant a winger.

    What he actually said was that "we're possibly after one more striker, one more wide player or one that can play both would be great" there was no mention of a winger. I took his comment about "one that can play both" as a joke. The fact he laughed after he said it was a bit of a giveaway tbh.

    That's not to say we won't end up signing a forward who can play wide but it's wrong to say that Robinson stated he was after a winger. As CSmith says I'd have taken ATS to be the wide player he mentioned in that interview.

    Bigirimana is a funny one. I reckon at the start of the season was pencilled in for a starting spot but he missed the Rangers game and Rose came in and did alright. Allan Campbell made a strong case very early on for a starting spot and we seemed to develop a style of play more suited to the likes of Campbell and Grimshaw than Bigirimana (one could argue it's also the reason Bowman started more than Ciftci).

    Where the argument for that falls down is the fact that Tanner managed to force his way into the midfield three. Different type of player but certainly a creative player and the fact that he was preferred to Bigirimana suggests that Robinson didn't like what Bigirimana was offering.

    Did he?

    While they were both at the club:
    - Ciftci started 11 from a possible 22 games (2 of which he was ineligible to play in anyway) and missed 5 through injury.
    - Bowman started 9 from a possible 22 games and missed 7 through injury.
