  1. He didn't start he came on for the last 20 mins from what i recall. Really sad news for Tanner, didn't even know he had a knock. Regardless of the above he will be a big miss for the remainder of the season
  2. That combination has won us numerous big games, namely in the League Cup run. I agree that we should have been more offensive on Saturday however Celtic are a different proposition. An extra man in the middle is necessary IMO. Tanner doesn't have the legs to press in the manner we need to on Sunday. To me, we need to get back to playing the way we did earlier in the season. I like Tanner but he is limited and could be a bit of passenger in a game like this.
  3. Despite the poor display on Saturday I can't say I'm overly pessimistic about Sunday. The league is basically gone and there won't be the same urgency from them had Rangers won at the weekend. Defensively Celtic are a bit of a shambles just now. I fancy Curtis Main to rough them up, I would pair him with Ryan Bowman. To me, Craig Tanner isn't a striker as Robbo described and isn't as consistent as has been suggested. Ciftci hasn't offered enough to make me think he deserves a start ahead of Bowman. Would be tempted to drop Cadden given recent displays but I'm not sure we have good enough options other than switching Tait and bringing in Frear. We really do owe them one after their last visit to Fir Park and I think that and the cup final should give the players added determination. Carson Kipre Aldred Dunne Cadden Tait Campbell McHugh Rose Bowman Main We need to play exactly as we did in the last meeting in Fir Park, constant pressing on their defence. If we do this Boyata and co will make mistakes. I'm not overly impressed by them up front either. Fancy us to take atleast a draw from this.
  4. What a shambles today. From the standing in the pishing rain for 30 minutes despite buying a ticket in advance. To the performance and over zealous policing. It's a wonder folk actually still attend games. In no other sport or entertainment venue would people be treated like that. Appreciate the majority of the problems are on Accies and the Police but we need the board to stand up against this sort of thing. After all we are fan owned. On the park the selection was all wrong. I don't agree with Robbo's comments about starting with two up front.. Tanner is not a striker. We should have went with Main and Bowman from the start. The longer time goes on I'm not sure Nadir merits being ahead of Bowman in the pecking order. Regardless of the above we showed no composure on the ball today at all. We all know NDP has never seen a game of football in it's history but you can still pass the ball. Hoofing it up we offered zero threat and Accies were lapping it up. Very few pass marks and I think the boys didn't look up for it at all. Chrissy Cadden in particular looks like he would maybe benefit from a week out the team. With two games against the Old Firm on the horizon I think Top 6 is out with our reach. Thankfully we still have the cup to look forward to!
  5. Would like to see Bowman from the start tomorrow. Don't think Nadir has been terrible since he came in but he still certainly is lacking some sharpness. As always at NDP expect a tight game of high balls and scrapping. Yet to see a game of football there but fingers crossed this will be the day. Hamilton are without a good few players but as we have learned never write this mob off.
  6. As bad as the snow is around here I don't think they will have any issues getting the pitch clear (if its not already covered) Biggest thing is going to be travel from Aberdeen and even our surrounding areas. Also the Police may take exception to footpaths etc being unsafe. There's 3 games across the top flight tonight and I would suspect all clubs will be doing all they can to get them on regardless of school closures. Personally was looking forward to seeing the orange baw out.. If it does go ahead, I'd go with the same lineup as Saturday apart from Rose > Tanner and Bowman > Ciftci
  7. To be honest there wasn't much to say about the game on Saturday other than we defended very well. I wouldn't say anyone was a real stand out but as a team we done well to not concede. We maybe carried a bit more luck than we have recently. As others have alluded to we basically did a Killie last week. Need to applaud the team for grinding a result out. For the goal Main showed he is capable of chipping in with an assist here and there. Looking forward to Wednesday now, Aberden are there for the taking in my eyes. There players might be on a bit of a downer after there display on Sunday, let's hope we can take advantage. Top 6 is still up for grabs
  8. Any spare seats on buses for tomorrow? Got let down last minute
  9. It's funny how you can watch the same game as others and have a completely different opinion. To me, there has been a total overeaction to Saturday's result and performance. The thing I don't get is sometimes we fully warrant a slating but on those occasions there is little criticism. All about opinions I suppose.. I thought we played more football on Saturday than we did in our last few games combined. On the whole, I actually enjoyed the game. We lacked a cutting edge up front but we certainly didn't deserve the reaction some gave on here and on social media. Our passing, especially in the 2nd half was pretty good. A lot better than it has been recently. It was refreshing to see us to try to play a bit of football. As I said it didn't happen for us up front and we didn't create enough clear cut opportunites but I couldn't fault the effort of the players. Charles Dunne was MOTM again for me and is maturing into a solid player. I thought minus the stray pass for the goal Curtis Main was quality too. Kilmarnock sat deep and defended well, we will play a lot worse than that this season and win. Interesting the slating Elliot Frear has had, I thought he tried to create more than most albeit he fell away for a period of the 2nd half. Frear consistently gets balls in the box into decent positions and still done that a good few times on Saturday. In terms of negatives I thought Tanner looked off the pace. He had some good touches and link up play at times but he looked sluggish especially in the 2nd half. His pace is an issue in games but then again if he had pace he wouldn't be playing for Motherwell. I can remember a couple of examples of him just deciding not to make the effort to run for the ball. Perhaps not the fittest lad in the squad. I would also take him off corners and free kicks, he seems to hit the first man consistently. Cadden also in the 2nd half was pretty poor although I think it might have been due to deliberate tactics. Any time we went forward he seemed to drop deep. Failing to give any sort of wide option on the right hand side. Overall though, I thought we were a lot better than recently and am confident ahead of the game done at Dundee on Saturday. I think sixth place is probably gone now but we can still give it a decent go hopefully
  10. Sixth place could be decided tomorrow with a Kilmarnock win. They are on a helluva a run just now and I think two games in hand with this would be too much to ask. A draw wouldn't be the end of the world but we really need to be looking to win this. We are in good form now and seem to be solid at the back once again. Shame Cedric Kipre is out, he has been a star the last few games and has been back to his best. I presume McHugh is going to have to drop back to centre back? Only other viable option is drop to 4 at the back but I'm not sure Robinson will be looking to upset things too much. I'd go: Carson Aldred McHugh Dunne Cadden Tait Campbell Bigi Rose Ciftci Main I would love to get Tanner on the park but IMO we need an extra centre mid tomorrow if Mulumbu is starting. For me, he is the best midfielder in the country ahead of Brown and McGinn. We need to ensure we have an extra body in there to compete with him. Frear is another option that could be worth considering instead of Tait on the left but fitness wise I'm not sure he is up to speed. Hopefully we will see Ryan Bowman feature from the bench as well. Really looking forward to this tomorrow, hopefully get a decent turnout with a lot at stake. Going to be a tough encounter but there's no reason why we can't pull this off if everyone is playing to their full potential.
  11. First half was absolutely murder last night, was pretty much the same as the last few games. I'm not convinced by this 'earn the right to play' mantra. I get what Robinson is saying but it is possible to put a few more passes together than we did in that first half. Still not convinced by the wing back system. Chrissy Cadden seems to be struggling, and has been for some time now. We don't seem to have enough threat from the wing on either side. Perhaps the trade off here is we look very solid from it but our attacking options from midfield are tempered. Fortunately I think Robinson must have went through them at half time as second half was a lot better. It wasn't a sparkling display but we took the game by the scruff of the neck and played some decent stuff at times. To be honest, I was surprised at how bad St Johnstone were, they looked a shade of their former selves. A few of their same old faces that they have relied on for years seem to be on the road out. I think our winning mentality really shone through last night. We also had some quality displays from quite a few boys. Alan Campbell was back to it in the middle of the park. Rose done a lot of good work, and in the defence Aldred, Dunne and Kipre were again outstanding. First to admit I wasn't overly excited with Curtis Main's resumé but he has certainly proven the doubters wrong. His strength and pace is going to be a handful for the majority of the clubs in the division. Hopefully we can now put a bit of a run together. Top 6 is still going to be very difficult with the way Killie are playing but hopefully we can have a decent crack at it.
  12. Glad to see we are all looking forward to another feast of football.... You never know, maybe we will be surprised haha. Personally I'd change things about a wee bit, wouldn't be surprised if Robinson does the same but probably not in the way that I would suggest. I'd go for: Carson Kipre Aldred Dunne Maclean McHugh Bigi Campbell Hendrie Ciftci Main Bigi for Tanner seems like a given for me. Tanner hasn't been great in the last few games and Bigi can hopefully encourage us to actually get the ball down and play it rather than what we have been subjected to recently. Even from the bench he has proven his killer passes can win games. For his debut, I thought Hendrie was fine on Saturday, perhaps not 100% fit but proved he has some quality especially with his deliveries from the wing. Defensively he looks competent too which continues to concern me about Richard Tait, I counted a couple of times again on Saturday alone where he left us seriously exposed. You could argue that this is likely to happen when playing with wing backs but you need to have atleast some level of defensive savy and pace at your disposal. Cadden hasn't been at his best as of late. I don't necessarily solely blame him I think the system has a lot to do with his form but a game on the bench might be for the best. I'd like to see young Maclean given a chance, I've been really disapointed at the lack of opportunities he and a number of the younger members of the squad have been given. I must say I have seen little from the likes of Demi other than pace to suggest he has more to offer than Ross Maclean for example. We seem to have been paying lip service about how we are going to be giving more young guys chances but I haven't seen this happen since the inclusion of Campbell and Cadden.
  13. Feel like I've seen more poor games than normal at Fir Park this season. Again on Saturday, other than the last half hour that was pretty grim stuff. As I've said before I don't expect to be watching a footballing masterclass when I go on a Saturday but it hasn't been the most easy on the eye this season. The thing is if we are playing a certain way and getting results then fine but the problem is we aren't. 2 wins in the last 15 league games isn't good enough let's be honest. Despite this I'm still fairly positive about the changes that have been made in January. Again on Saturday I thought Tom Aldred was first class, no nonsense approach from him. Main is proving to be a handful and Nadir is starting to show some of his quality. In terms of the team overall, I would echo some of the concerns made about midfield creativity although to be honest I think it's more of a deliberate overall approach from the team/manager. Any time we get the ball 9 times of 10 we seem to be booting it long in some shape or form. I'm not convinced this approach is bearing fruit. We have proven in glimpses this season (even a few times in the first half on Saturday) that we have the ability to play some decent passing football but for whatever reason we are opting against this approach. We were sometimes direct in the league cup games but genuinely remember us having more passing quality than we have shown recently. My solution to this would be giving Bigi a chance in the team, he has proven this season when given the chance he has the quality to unlock doors for us. I'm not sure the wing back system we are playing just now is giving us the best out of the likes of Cadden either who has looked a shade of his former self recently. Obviously this is Robinson's preferred system, we do look solid at the back for the most part but it seems to be stiffling our attacking threat for the most part. Apart from the obvious shambles for the Partick goal our defence looked pretty solid. Cedric Kipre again was very strong. Dunne and Aldred likewise. Unfortunately though, leaving someone unmarked at a free-kick isn't good enough at this level. In midfield I thought Campbell was energetic and good in spells but as always Carl McHugh's distribution and taking too time on the ball was frustrating. Craig Tanner wasn't at the races again this week, unfortunately I'm not sure he is going to be much more consistent than Lionel Ainsworth but we will likely get more graft off him. A win tomorow is very important make no mistake.
  14. Don't like to single players out but Tait has been awful for some time now. Seems to get away with murder, I even seen some claiming he was one of our better performers this season. I like him going forward, this is his main strength. In terms of defending and passing I don't think he is good enough. He is also very slow. I've lost count of the amount of times I have watched him beaten for pace and refuse to block crosses coming in. Tanner seems to have been lauded recently after he had a couple of games where he was looking like he could be a key player, I still have my doubts regarding his lack of pace. Skill and technique wise he is very good but his lack of any sort of speed seems to be a problem going forward sometimes. In terms of positives Cedric Kipre seems to be back to his best, if he continues to play like this we have a real asset on our hands. Curtis Main continues to be handful, he is proving myself and a few others wrong with his goal tally thus far. Hopefully he continues to chip in. At the end of the day, we can't be expected to go to Hibs and get a result but I appreciate some fans frustrations at the way we set up some times. We have a good opportunity on Saturday to get another 3 points although I don't think Partick will be a walk over.
  15. See Dundee are apparently in for Simon Murray from Hibs, been impressed by him since his move, quite surprised Hibs are letting him go. He would be a great option up front for us if Hibs are letting him go for next to nothing. Suspect he would command a fee of some sort but didn't think Dundee were still flush with cash. Hopefully some news of some sort of forward will be on the way soon, would be surprised if we did business late tonight with the game being on. Really pleased with the Hendrie move. EDIT; apparently some sort of part x deal
  16. Gutter media now reporting Carson as 'heartbroken' with no source, Brenda has spat the dummy out and is trying all sorts here. Hendrie sounds like a great signing, not seen much of him but has decent pedigree. Really hopeful of another striker and Carson staying. We need another option from the bench.
  17. Excellent result by the team and they deserve enormous credit for going until the very end. To be honest, I didn't think we deserved to win like Robinson mentioned in his post match interview. We definitely deserved a point and I think a draw was a fair reflection of the game but I didn't think we were perhaps as good as he made out. Cedric Kipre was outstanding, as he was on Wednesday. This boy is still very young and has massive potential to go to a much higher level IMO. Aldred again looked solid. Curtis Main worked really hard as well, he was a handful for Berra and co. I think he is in the Bowman mould and won't get us 20 goals a season but as you can see he is chipping in with his fair share already. Hopefully Nadri Ciftci will supply the rest. Alan Campbell is another I have high hopes for, his tackling is top drawer. Rose was another who contributed well for me in the middle of the park. Hopefully we will start to play a bit more football as the season goes on, again some of our distribution was pretty bad. Dunne was the main culprit, Tait when he came on and McHugh also needs to do better with the ball at feet. Chrissy Cadden to me looks like he needs a week out of the side, I'm not sure if it's the wing back position or what but I don't feel he has been the same player for a couple of months now. Another tough outing on Wednesday but the boys have proven they have the fight required to come away with another positive result. I'm keen to see what business we will do before Wednesday, with Fisher away I'm hopeful we can get another good option up front. Perhaps in the poacher role to push Main and Ciftci.
  18. I would be shocked if any money was transferred. This will be a case of moving a wage off to get someone else in. Fisher seemed like a stand up guy but it simply didn't work out, all the best to him. Excited to see who we bring in as another attacking option. Not sure Fisher would be on that big a wage so I still think we might have room for another decent chunk in wages since Moult was offloaded. From what I understand we aren't paying a lot of Ciftci's wages at all.
  19. Hopefully a better game than our last visit there which was pretty awful viewing. Hearts are on fire at the moment but they are probably one of the least attractive sides in the division to watch (minus Accies). We aren't far behind them but all that matters at the moment is climbing the table. For this reason I suspect this will be more of a battle tomorrow than a football match. Last time out we tried to play Hearts at their own game, booting high balls up front which Berra and co were lapping up. Hopefully the new additons in the forward line will make this approach a bit more fruitful if we choose to opt with with it. My feeling would be to get the ball into feet to the likes of Tanner and Ciftciand try to outplay them rather than beat Hearts in a battle. Their defence is rock solid at the moment so it's going to be difficult either way. I'd go with the below team: Carson Kipre Aldred Hartley Cadden Dunne McHugh Campbelll Tanner Ciftci Main
  20. I agree that his pace makes up for a lot at the back but I presume the reason people are so critical is because his passing is abysmal, like really bad. He struggles to find a man consistently in games. I wouldn't myself drop him but have been critical of him and his distrbution, he can also sometimes be quite erratic. I wouldn't say he is our best defender, I would give this to Mr Hartley
  21. Rotten game but at the end of the day as bad as it was we simply needed to grind out a result last night. As some have mentioned i'd like to see us play a lot more football rather than lumping the ball long. I actually think we play some decent stuff at times when we put our mind to it. I think it's a clear tactic from Robinson to direct but can't really criticise it too much given the first half to the season. I can recall a good few games where the ball has barely touched the deck. Results come before fancy football for us though I'm afraid. In terms of positives I thought Aldred was excellent, looks like a no nonsense defender. It will be interesting to see who will be first choice when Hartley is back. Aldred and Hartley could be some partnership although Kipre was a stand out for me last night too. Perhaps a 3 of Hartley, Kipre and Aldred when going 352? Dunne moving to LWB.. Depends on the system we play I suppose but atleast we have some good options now. Ciftci was really bright and worked hard throughout. I can see Nadir banging in a good amount of goals this season, technically he is very good and he is better than I remember in the air. As well as this it looks like he is going to chip in with quite a few assists. From what I have seen thus far I am optimistic this move could be a big success. Good to see Main chip in with a goal, I don't think he is a natural poacher but will hopefully get a few to his name. He looks very powerful and will upset defences. I did think he would be more of an aerial presence though given his size however he didn't look to be very good in the air. Could be more in the Bowman mould tbh. Conflicted about Charles Dunne, I think his pace bails us out quite a lot of the time but techincally he is appalling. His passing ability is none existent. I sometimes think this contributes to our long ball from the back approach. Defensively he is OK though so I don't want to be too harsh on him. I still see something in Demi, I don't think he is as bad as some have made out. Raw, but his pace could open doors as he nearly done towards the end of the match. Good to see Maclean get a run out too, hopefully he start to blood him and a few of the youngsters in over the rest of the season. Tough game on Saturday, Hearts are on fire just now. Would bite your hand off for a draw at this point.
  22. Missed the last couple of games so buzzing to get back to the fitbaw tomorrow. Hopefully the break and the win at the weekend will give us a renewed momentum going into the new year. Ross County are a bit of a interesting one, they are obviously struggling but have some decent players and their sugardaddy will be investing heavily this month to keep them up. Guys like Keilor-Dunne and Michael Gardyne always look dangerous. Always impressed by Davies at the back too, usually very solid. They've also just added Greg Tansey and David N'gog (former Liverpool) Hopefully a few of our new boys will be out to prove a point, would be great to see Cifti or Main get their first goal. A win really is essential as away games to in-form Hearts and Hibs are going to be really tough to get anything from. Not privy to the injury list at the moment but hopefully we have Aldred and Bowman back in contention. I still think we could be doing with another full back/defender as we aren't exactly awash with options with Aldred out and Hammell retiring. Pretty confident we can pick up a narrow win here.
  23. On the Cadden chat, I'm not entirely convinced he even wants to leave just now. He's a local lad and any interview I've heard he sounds genuinely satisfied playing for a team a stones throw away from his house. Everyone has ambitions but I don't get the feeling he will be jumping at the chance to play with some bottom half League 1 dirge down south if that's the calibre of team we think that would be interested. Jamie Walker has just signed for the league leaders there and I don't see Cadden as being much different from him. Clearly Aberdeen or any Scottish team aren't going to stump up the 800-900k it would take to prize him away so I don't see any chance of movement in this window. Cadden hasn't been amazing this season but as many have alluded to he's playing a lot deeper and that probably doesn't suit him. He's still young and has great potential, if he can kick on I think he will easily get a better level of team than is being talked about here.
  24. Not sure how it would take the sheen off getting 400k for him? Heneghan struggled latterly but people seem to forget that he was pretty solid prior to this period. In the second half of last season he was paired with the likes of Zak Jules and a one legged Stephen McManus. Put Heneghan in with the likes of Peter Hartley and I think he would do well. I'd much rather take Heneghan on-loan who would fit in very easily rather than bringing another guy up from England that might take time to adapt to the style of play. I wasn't Heneghan's biggest fan by any means but he certainly wasn't as bad as you are making out.
  25. Good interview from Robbo (as usual) at the training camp. He's said that he is looking for possibly 2 defenders. Didn't mention another attacking option, I thought Burrows said something about this but might have been pre Cifti. Anyway encouraging news, hopefully a full back and a centre back will be in soon. With all the movement I'd be surprised if we don't see a few out the door. Curious to see who we can shift. My guess would be - Plummer - not had a chance but seems to be nowhere near the first team, would seem pretty premature but he's taking a wage at the moment for not much. Fisher - let's be honest it hasn't worked. Feel sorry for the guy but I think we would do well to move him on. Other than that the only possibilities I can see are Bigi, Demi, Newall or Bowman. All of which might have their negatives but I genuinely think they have something to offer the team.
