I think you need to forget about Robinson. He's gone and won't be coming back, so he's irrelevant to our current situation.

Where we are now is down to what’s happened over the last few years. Robinson, Alexander, Hammell, Kettlewell. I would say they are all relevant to where we are now.

Our recruitments been poor for years though. Under Robinson we had a scattergun approach and maybe found a couple good players in the bunch. Since then we’ve signed who we have now I lay the blame on the door of Daws and our recruitment team personally.

Robinson signed more players of a good standard than three managers combined have since, on I would think the same budget. People used to go on about the previous recruitment,( was it Foyle)under Robinson but he had a way better eye for a player

Fuck off Kettlewell take yer shit wae u

Need to beg Robinson to come back, a proper manager that knows how to keep a club safe in the league. Everyone since him has been a downgrade. Kettlewell will be sacked after this and no doubt another loser will come through the door and take us down to the championship.

Aye but looking at it like that the likes of Maguire and Shields could be thinking sit tight and block new bodies coming in and they'll be in the match day squad come September.

I think we’re past that point and they both know it. They need to be playing first team games and it’s going to be limited at Motherwell as neither are quite up to Premiership level.

    Money is tight already.

Money in for KVV and his wage freed up, money to sign two duds last week.

I didn't think they would play this card until at least August.

Is money not always tight at a club like Motherwell ?

Every year teams like us, with a limited budget, have to wait while players decide what offer to accept or hold out in hope of a better offer elsewhere. Some of these players are of a better quality but others just think they are.
As frustrating it is for us, it must be worse for the manager & staff trying to get the deal’s done.
Wether the guys already signed are good enough as starter’s remains to be seen but - while we try to persuade others to join us - I think it’s better to have them rather than scrambling around at the last minute picking from the leftovers.

And of course it’s been the same for years. Given that it’s a bit strange some people think it’s suddenly going to change. You would think the pre season predictions of doom would have dissipated by now given it never actually happens.

    A I said, underrated.

He was the captain of the Man Utd Academy team and even played for the Man U reserves. You don't make it that far at Old Trafford if you don't have the basics. They're not exactly short of options.

His play was old-school at times, but if you have the right balance in midfield that can be an asset.

He did and he was indeed old school. But underrated? not for me. I wish him well but he’s playing in the championship next season for a reason, he’s technically around top championship level. A number of Motherwell managers did not have him as a regular starter which tells its own story.

I like Grimmy and thought he was sometimes underrated at Fir Park - partly because we played him at right back so often when he operates better as a traditional midfielder.

I think he's a great fit for a team like Utd pushing for a quick return to the Premiership.

Trouble was he could not pass a decent ball to save his life.

Are we seriously saying, lets take a few quid for a Scotland squad keeper? If he was to go and the next keeper delivered poor performances, I can imagine the comments about the management and the board. LK is a very good keeper, lets keep him in post! Obviously every player has a price, but to talk about moving LK on is madness,

I’m amazed it’s even being mentioned, he’s one of the best keepers in the division and has saved us a ton of points.

  10. Losing Kelly would be a huge blow. Regarding KVV it’s not long ago he was taking stick. He’s in his 30s and has never had a season like the last one in his whole career and it’s highly likely it won’t be repeated. I don’t think half a million plus add ons is that bad given many would have happily taken 50k for lazy Kevin not that long ago

KVV extending for one year cost 4 times what Josh Morris and Oxborough combined cost for two years each?

    That's some good budgeting.

Probably the best contract extension for years. We’re going to make good money out of it.

There’s nothing wrong with having a reputation of being a club that looks after it’s players, but at the same time we are a professional football club, not a charity, so when we have players on the books we need to be getting something in return for us taking care of them. And yes it has worked well for us in the past but over the past decade it has gotten to a ridiculous level of simply signing ex players in the hope that they can somehow recapture their form with us years before and also no doubt with an aim to getting the fans on side.

Of the list I mentioned above, the obvious success stories were Scott McDonald, who was still a quality player at our level when he came back, and Stephen Pearson especially during the playoff season. Faddy was excellent in his initial return in 2013 but offered next to nothing afterwards and was clearly done. John Sutton being the other plus point. The rest of them with perhaps the exception of Grimshaw, did nothing for us in their return and three of them (McCormack, Moult & Aarons) barely kicked a ball and were never fit and wouldn’t even have been considered had they not been with us previously.

I’ve no issue with us bringing back an ex player if he genuinely still has something to offer us, but I’d like to see us show a bit more vision in our transfer dealings. Instead of bringing back a clearly crocked and finished Louis Moult why not try and find another player who would potentially offer us the same as Moult did when he was younger and fitter? Easier said than done, I am fully aware of that, but surely more productive than our re-signing of Moult last year?

I think for many Moult was seen a risk with taking, plenty including myself felt he was probably done but it could have been a great deal I guess.

A striker who can score 29 goals a season is worth a lot more than a million pounds. If as is reported teams like Wolves are interested in him. One million pounds is pocket money to teams like that. I'd be asking at least 4 million to them.

If we can get that great, but it is the Scottish premiership and not the premier league down south and he’s not in his early 20s.

Kevin van Veen 'more than willing to help Motherwell in financial way'

Last updated 1 hour ago. From the sectionMotherwell

Kevin van Veen has hit 21 league goals for a side sitting eighth in the 12-team Premiership Kevin van Veen has hit 21 league goals for a side sitting eighth in the 12-team Premiership

Kevin van Veen would be happy if Motherwell were to cash in on a summer transfer but insists he is "more than delighted" at Fir Park.

The Dutchman, 31, has scored 25 goals in all competitions this season and has a year to run on his contract.

That form has earned him a PFA Scotland player of the year nomination, along with Celtic trio Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi.

"It's very clichéd but I love playing for the club," said Van Veen.

"At the moment, I can't say anything other than I'm focused on Motherwell. They gave me a platform to show my ability and what I can do.

"But what I can't say, for example, is if the club is getting a really good transfer sum in the summer to not say no, financially for them I give everything.

"I'm more than willing to help the club in a financial way, that doesn't mean I want to leave.

"If everybody is happy and thinking it is the right thing then we need to sit around the table and see what's best for the player and also for the club.

"I'm a bit older, so if there is one more chance to make a step up or if it's financially, I want everybody to agree on it. I would never leave on a bad taste.

"It's going to be interesting in the summer to see what's going to happen but I'm more than delighted to be a Motherwell player."

Van Veen signed for Motherwell in the summer of 2021, arriving as a free agent from Scunthorpe United.

He has scored in each of his past seven Scottish Premiership games (10 goals), which is the best run in the league since Rangers' Alfredo Morelos in December 2018.

The last player to score in eight in a row in the top-flight was Craig Dargo for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in February 2006.

Fair enough for me, it’s the reality of football in the modern era. Although my opinion that 200k Would be a fair transfer fee for him was obviously nothing short of nonsense so what do I know.

I wouldn't say he deliberately got himself sent off.  I just think the stick he gets is over the top, I don't know the guy personally but apart from him having a bad spell when yes he was poor I don't see what he has done so wrong. All about opinions..COYW

There is no doubt he has a level of quality missing in many of our signings over the last few years and Kettlewell is bringing the best out of players. Given that I don’t see a problem with him staying. We can hopefully build something around those better players next season and a fit and motivated SOD should be an asset.
