  1. This is absolutely correct. These were dark days indeed. I am not for one second wanting to revisit them. I was just trying to say I find it mistifying that when we were pretty pish and both halves of the OF were MUCH, MUCH better than they are now, we could hand them a regular skelping (albeit Raith Rovers or the likes would inevitably beat us 6-1 the following week ). We would go into these games really beleiving we could do some damage. These days I don't even think the happiest of happy-clappers expects anything when we head to Glasow. Therefore, logic dictates a good motherwell side should be able to beat a weaker OF side more often than a shite well side could beat OF teams with PROPER good players. This comment is brought about by our record against the OF in the last 10 years and not Saturdays match in isolation.
  2. That away to celtic stat is awful, as is our record against Rangers We certainly had the making of Celtic at Fir Park last year. Not just the fact we beat them twice, we totally outplayed them both times. What angers me more is that when I was in my prime of well supporting (able to go every week), back in the mid to late nineties, we very fond of pumping the OF. I remember watching us play Rangers on SKY around 98-99. The commentator that day had said in 'recent years' Well had the best record in the league against Rangers with the exception of Celtic and the best record in the league against Celtic apart from Rangers. And this was a Well team many consider not as good as our current squad, going against old firm teams vastly superior to the teams they have now. It seems insane that its been so long since we beat Rangers. I remember us skelping them loads of times in years gone by. For those old enough to remember, the day we ruined Rangers 9 in a row party was incredible. I doubt todays squad would have managed a similar fete.
  3. Would happily take a point from this, but we've a not bad record up there so would not rule out all 3. Despite how poor we were on Sunday, I will not be joining the ranks of those who think the entire team should be replaced, McCall should be fired and John Sutton deported. It was one game. Relax. Also pretty sure the small matter of a trip to Russia and back may have affected stamina. Hopefully , with the squad fully rested (well, with the exception of Hammell scoring the winner for Scotland tonight ) we can step it up a bit. Prediction; Score draw.
  4. One that I dont think has been mentioned. Beating "Celtic Football Club" 2-1 in 96-97. The game where Jamie Dolan was in goals for a good whack of the second half. Ian Ross (I think) scored in the dying seconds to give us the win. That 96/97 season was largely shite but it did have the 2-0 win over Lizzies XI that has been discussed. Fucking loved that game
  5. was under the impression darren smith was injured. Anyone know if he is still to reach full fitness or if he is just completely out the picture.
  6. The Owen Coyle double at Ibrox to stop the fuckers getting nine in a row on their home soil. I will always remember it for the pre-match build up on TV ; never mentioned M'Well once, all it did was interveiw ex players etc who had all came along to see their magnificent bears lift the trophy. Oweny pissed all over their party. Also remember Shaun McSkimming nutmegging someone (Alan McLaren I think) and dropping my drink in amazement
  7. The Sun has reported we have signed this boy from Ross County but dont see any mention of it elsewhere. Cant get on to fishel site at my work. Can anyone enlighten me?
  8. Wasn't at the game either but cringed with embarassment when reading about the chants. Working in Glasgow surrounded by fans of the OF, I often like to pride myself in beleiving , "My team may never be as good as yours but at least I follow a team that is not followed by mindless, bigoted morons that spout pure bile for 90 mins." Sadly this is just another thing that bursts the bubble I clearly live in when I think that supporting Motherwell represents some moral high ground over the dirty OF . Whilst I truely beleive the majority of our fans are the dugs baws there is always going to be that element in our support that infuriate and embarass me.
  9. Noticed that Hammell wasn't even on the bench on sat. Does anyone know if he was injured or just not selected?
  10. Was quite suprised to read that both Daz & Fizzy had been told to find themselves new clubs. Well surprised it happened so soon anyway. Big JG certainly didn't seem to take much time to deem them surplus to requirements. Still, thats what he's paid for I guess.
  11. Not too many to chose from. The first one I remember was Tommy Coyne (mid/late 90's)netting 3 against kilmarnock. The only other one I witnessed was Owen Coyle netting thrice against Morton in a cup game. I forget the year; 97 or 98 I think. My memory has Coyle hitting an absolute screamer from near the half-way line going in off the bar.....However, my memory is known to recall things as being more spectacular than they really were....probably rolled off his arse from the 6 yard box.
  12. Anyone else remember we (apprently) nearly signed Bruce Grobbelar.........??? Late 90's.
  13. I really do think he could do something for us were he to get a good run in the team. However, with the news he's not even on the trip to Albania; I think the chances of him establishing himself under JG look quite bleak. It is, of course, VERY early days and things can change. As someone stated earlier; He was originally on the books as a striker. Wonder if he could find himself in this role again? McGhee's first season in charge - 5 starts/ 4 goals Also I'm pretty sure from these 5 starts he was voted MOTM 2 or 3 times on these very boards.

    Dazzler

I notice Darren Smith was not even on the bench last night. Not looking too good for him when we lose 9 first team players and he still can't get on the bench. I'va always liked the Dazzler and was hoping McGhees departure would spell an extended run for the wee man. Looks like it's not to be. Of course, He could have just been injured I guess. I always thought he looked like he could be a player if given more than 10 mins to prove himself.
  15. sorry if this has been touched on elsewhere. Does anyone know if there is an option for English commentary on the game tonight? Is it just the live link that only has welsh?
