  1. Big credit to SOD tonight, and Clarke for very publicly backing him. I also wonder how it feels for him to be playing in that game when he is - by far probably - the lowest earner on the pitch?

I first came across Andy via the Exiles club probably about 20 years ago. I was living away from Scotland at the time, and in the pre-internet days I loved what he did to keep us in touch with what was going on. Had the pleasure of putting a face to the name on a couple of the European away trips. What a good guy. This is terrible news. Will raise a glass to him tonight.
  3. Are you suggesting that that was the result of the mystery negotiation in January? Reduce the contract extension trigger to the end of June... MFC keep the Euro money, and Gallagher gets to join another team with no fee?
  4. All he needs to do to make it £14m is play a 1-2 off the bar and ping one in against England in the Euros. Being more serious, another good season for him with some further development (e.g. with champions league and international experience) will see more clubs circling with bigger cheques. Which will be in all interested parties' interests... the player himself, Celtic, Motherwell (assuming we do have a sell-on).
  5. ...Especially as making a donation towards buying season tickets for people that can’t afford is effectively a donation to the club... and the effect of such donations will be increased due to the club matching donations to distribute season tickets to the value of double any donations.
  6. Time for the return of the ‘null vote’ option... can’t make a case for anyone... although if you forced me I’d have to go for Foley for looking generally tidy and being in the right place at the right time for the goal
  7. I get the logic in not playing Gallagher as he won't be with us next season.... but Magloire played last night, and I would hope we can find a better option to fill a gap at centre half. In fact, Mugabi in my view is a better option, and we know he will be here after the summer.
  8. Fixed it for you. That 90 minutes was a wee summary of our whole season. You start off with a wee bit of hope, only to be kicked in the nuts early on. Slack and infuriating first half, with the opposition not having to work too hard for their goals. Chris Long gets booked for petulance, and we give away a stupid penalty. Second half much better, Kelly makes a good save and Cole scores. In the end we do just about enough to get through it unscathed, but you're still left realising that we're very inconsistent, lacking leadership on the park, and needing a big summer rebuild.
  9. That's a good question... I will admit to being biased by the history... thinking of him (even still) as one of 'ours'. But to answer your question... probably not!! On the other hand, he did show enough in those performances when he broke through that he potentially has something to offer.
  10. In spite of it all (parent club... most of his recent form...), I also really want Hastie to do well. Maybe tonight's the night....? I still think there's a player in there.
  11. I’m no accountant and I’m happy to be contradicted here... although I do have a wee bit of experience in the field... My understanding of the technicalities of the set-up are as follows: - you make a £300 donation to the Community Trust, which is a registered charity and so pays no tax - the CT then buys an MFC season ticket for someone who can’t afford it, as guided by you when you made the donation - MFC presumably charges the CT the full £300 price for the season ticket, although MFC have also pledged to match this with providing a free season ticket to someone else, which is great - MFC is a limited company and will pay corporation tax on any profits at the end of the year... but essentially MFC are getting full value of any donation you make to the CT for this purpose. And it really doesn’t have any cost to it, as the seats are mostly available anyway. This is maybe a bit simplistic, but I think broadly right. I’m not sure of the VAT treatment, but this would only apply to MFC and not the CT. It’s a really neat way to set it up I think, from a financial and PR perspective... as well as getting more season ticket holders on the books. Great work by the club.
  12. Agree with all of that. Watt is by far the only credible candidate, given that Kelly only played half the season. There were several games where it looked like it was Tony Watt v the other 11.
  13. I agree with you, and would add that I think Chris Long has been better too. At Christmas time I'd have said his time with us was up, but now I'd be fine if he signed on again.
  14. Forgot to mention Ricki Lamie... since around the time Alexander came in, he’s been decent most games and excellent in a few....but today was one of his nearly performances... nearly had an excellent game, and nearly made an arse of it through a combination of trying to be too clever and / or bad decision making. He’s much better when he keeps it simple
  15. With a tidy finish and an excellent assist, it's hard to look past Cole... but Foley had a good 90 minutes so I went for him
  16. I was actually really irritated by the red card. Does he even book an old firm player for that?
  17. Could you clarify what you mean? Not sure I get you. My point wasn’t really in favour of one option the other, just that it could be significant... but the big unknown is how many people are paying for a stream. Just to make up an example with round numbers: - No stream, 500 away fans paying £20 = £10K income - Stream available, away support drops to 300, £20 each = £6K income. So you’d then need 400 paying streamers at £10 each (say) to get to the same £10K overall income. And this ignores home fan streamers. I’m obviously just making this up... if we knew how many home / away fans have been paying for streaming, we could get more precise about it. I’m assuming the powers that be think it will increase revenue overall. I think they need to be careful about increasing the stream price though... in my case, I’m ok to pay £10 or £12 but if it was much more I’d be far more tempted by an illegal stream... it’s a fine line, that different people will make their own call on.
  18. Agree with you... the implications of this could be significant, especially for the number of away fans in stadiums. In my case for example, I probably go to about 60% of away games normally. I’ll definitely think twice about a midweek trip to Perth or whatever (or any away games if the weather is particularly bad) if I can buy the stream, then save money and time and sit in the house and watch it. Looking at the other side of the argument, I’ve probably bought two thirds of the away game streams this season. And obviously there could be many more fans who live further away or can’t / don’t go to the away games anyway who’re prepared to pay for a stream.
  19. 3 out of 3 for the Steelemen Online ‘should we sign them’ polls. Can someone put up a poll asking if we should sign Haaland?!
  20. Hope Jordan Roberts is OK... didn’t look good
  21. So Hampden is unavailable. Fair enough. But is it beyond the wit of man to play the final somewhere else and plan on having some fans in... say as a kind of test event for the Euros?! Oh wait... this is the people that run Scottish football we’re talking about...
  22. 2 out of 2 so far (Mugabi and Crawford) in terms of new contracts for players that most voters on Steelmen Online wanted to retain
