  1. As announced in this week’s well society email

    Quote

Cammy Murray, Tom Smith and our Club historian Stuart Graham have produced an excellent twenty five minute video about our great team of the late 1950s and early 1960s - The Ancell Babes including backing vocals from Club legend Willie Hunter.

This can be viewed on YouTube under Motherwell F.C. Legends.

  2. Ffs the guy was interviewed on radio and aired a perfectly balanced thought,  there’s not much to it , he was happy to stay on the terms offered but by time he accepted, the club’s position had changed , he felt wronged and choose to move on,  that’s perfectly ok,

the club changing the offer is also  fully understandable,  imho, as soon as it was known the original offer should have been withdrawn, but I can understand during a pandemic that there were  fast moving and changing scenarios that prevented the formal cancellation of the original offer

There doesn’t have to be good guy bad guy in every event,

if anything the players explained he wanted to stay but felt he couldn’t on his principles  and the club have explained why , the emotions should have been left at that

It's nice to be a fan of a club that does the right thing.

It is, and I’m glad the club has finally got round to this announcement,  I’ll accept the timelines based on reduced staffing etc

however I’m surprised at only a one week window of opportunity to request the refund and even more surprised that with such a short period the club hasn’t immediately notified  affected ticket holders directly where possible

    3 hours ago, Jumbomuir said:

Could never ask for a refund, just wrong.

I was really angry at reading the guilting on the club’s official social media accounts, maybe it’s not meant in that way, but it’s horrendously ignorant to imply  it’s wrong to claim a refund (on what is effectively  a purchase that wasn’t delivered.)

if anyone feels they want a refund it should not be knocked, it’s fine to feel that you wouldn’t feel it’s right for yourself but for the sake of a couple of words acknowledge others may need to or that it is simply ok if required

  4. One of the biggest? / greatest?  / most memorable? Nights in our clubs history

was a little surprised at the general lack of chat around the anniversary date, given , the buzz around some other memorable occasions raised during the lockdown period

maybe the restricted crowd means it’s just not as prominent a memory for many , but it was probably they most important Match/result in the last 39years

Were you there? Does it rate in your top three games

Or were you following on via some sort of  media coverage  , nervously? Confidently? Bouncing of the ceiling?

Or had you lost the faith and sacked the notion of a result at Ibrox whilst distracting yourself elsewhere ( maybe having a wee check in on things)

ir just general thoughts back to that game

Looking at the stats there is close to zero risk for u45s without underlying morbidities

close to zero risk? I assume based on reckless use of the information, you are implying close to zero risk, of death due to Covid?

if so? you are just ignoring the significant impact on the life of the many in that age group that suffer the more serious health implications of the virus

sure there is a heavily weighted impact on the elderly, but its foolish to write off any impact the u45's

I heard Derek Ferguson's radio commentary at the goal later and it was hysterically  incoherent, in a good way. I don't suppose it's still available now but he couldn't believe his eyes and reacted accordingly: hilarious stuff.

Not sure if this will work as I’m linking from phone but they’ve used the commentary as the advert for tonight’s screening

  7. Thought this thread could do with a little bump in advance of the full match TV re-run of this classic 6-6 match  vs Hibs

BBC Scotland are showing it on Sportscene Classics , tomorrow evening,  Sunday 3rd May at 19:15

and word is Sky have it scheduled as well for midweek?

Quite emotional glancing back at some of the reactions, staggered at realising it was ten years ago , life really comes and goes far too quickly

get the carry out organised , arrange a couple of hours clear in the lockdown schedule to settle down and enjoy the epitomy of the Motherwell roller coaster

Tommy Wright has quit as St Johnstone manager after seven years in charge.

Wright, who still had two years of his deal to run, has been linked with the vacant Northern Ireland job.

The Perth club say that talks around the 56-year-old's potential departure at the end of the current campaign had been ongoing since before the coronavirus outbreak.

However, both parties felt now was an "appropriate time" for the "much valued" Wright to leave.

"We all feel that we have been successful in creating a young and exciting squad and the club is well positioned for the future," read a club statement.

Wright, who joined the club in November 2011 as assistant to Steve Lomas, and took charge in June 2013.

He led them to their first Scottish Cup win in 2014, as well as European campaigns and several top-six finishes.

St Johnstone were seventh in the Scottish Premiership when the season was halted on 13 March.

Looks great so far.  Probably the most interesting thing going on in Scottish football right now!

People who say things are 'sad' are a real bugbear of mine. It's usually because they have no skills or interests themselves and therefore contribute fuck all.

I'm not very handy but I'm learning Punjabi and have a MS Paint masterpiece on the go.

is there a former royal burgh of the Punjab with a Kirkcaldy like dialect in the Punjabi language that delivers an equivalant phrase to 'Ya Beezer' ?

PS apologies to anyone clicking in hoping for a photo update of the scale models ! blame those 3 above!

  11. It is sad, but almost tragic that I/we know how much pain you are going to have, replicating the Cooper, with all the angles on the footprint and every elevation

even the footprint of the Hunter at the northeast corner = pain

but looks like you are trying to capture some of the finer details, so it's already looking great - good luck , looks like it could be frustrating as fek!

  12. Partick Thistle offering 19-20 season ticket holders partial refunds, if required, now that their season is finished:

    Quote

"Our starting point is to say another sincere “thank you” to all supporters in the Partick Thistle family, who have rallied round in so many ways over the past month or so.

"We are in unprecedented times and know that many of you are experiencing difficulties of your own. That makes the total revenues generated since the middle of March humbling – the figure has now just passed the £100,000 mark.

"With the official end of the 2019/20 Ladbrokes Championship season, Partick Thistle FC will now make partial refunds available to all 2019/20 season ticket holders in line with the five home league matches not played.

"The club fully appreciates that a refund may be much needed in some households at this time.

"However, to put it in to context, should all 2019/20 season ticket holders claim a refund the total cost to the club would be in excess of £80,000 –  so any fans who can afford to consider not taking up the offer would help assist with the club’s current financial considerations.

"Once again, we thank all fans for their incredible support, financial or otherwise, in recent weeks and hope this latest update is helpful to you.

"Most of all, we continue to encourage you to follow government and NHS advice and look after yourselves and one another. There is nothing more important than the wellbeing of all connected with Partick Thistle. Football will eventually return to Firhill – and we want to see everyone there."

    Well Society

An update from the Well Society

    20:03

The Covid-19 crisis is having a monumental impact across the world and now at home.

It is both a health and economic crisis at the same time which is doubling the anxiety for us all.

In this context sport seems less important than ever before, but we also know that our club and our game are at the centre of our home community and national life. We must play our part in getting our community and country through what lies ahead and to a sustainable future on the other side.

As things stand, we await clarity over what will happen with the 2019/20 season. Until then, it is difficult to state clearly what challenges – if any – lie ahead. As soon as things are made clearer, we will be able to update our members and the entire Motherwell support.

As a club, we will stand by the decisions taken by our governing body and its board. We know that there can be no easy answers. We also know that now is not the time for self-interest. Now is the time to secure the common good. More than ever. Decisions will need to be taken and we will be part of making good what is decided.

Our club is well-managed, well-supervised and well-owned. We are fortunate. But this competence and preparedness does not make us immune from the implications of what is happening. The focus of the board of the club is on supporting all of those who depend on us for their income. This matters enormously. We also want to do everything we can to engage the community as well in all that will need done in the days ahead.

Times are uncertain, and so we are encouraged by supporters who have already contacted us looking to support the Well Society during this time.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to all of our supporters who have recently joined or made a donation to the Well Society, as well as highlighting our gratitude to existing members who continue to support us on a regular basis. The importance of doing this cannot be overstated. Please encourage all your friends that can afford it to do the same. It will be an investment in securing the future of our club.

We would welcome any other fans who have the means to similarly consider contributing to the Society at this time, either by pledging a monthly sum or by making a one-off donation.

Joining or pledging to the Well Society helps to safeguard the future of our club at all times, but in particular your support now helps give comfort as we head towards what will undoubtedly be challenging times.

To become a Well Society member, starting at just £5 per month, you can sign up here. Or, to make a one-off donation, you can click here or donate via Paypal by sending to wellsociety@motherwellfc.co.uk. (EDIT: I've made a clicky link direct to the society payments page, the club page directs to an info page on society)

Our understanding is that the club will put season tickets on sale in early April, which we encourage all fans who possibly can commit at that early stage to do so.

If you have any issues or worries during this ongoing crisis, even if they are unrelated to the Well Society, Motherwell FC or football in general, and are unsure of where to turn, please contact us by clicking here and we will point you in the right direction for advice, guidance and support.

Again, thank you for all your support. The days ahead will be full of pain, we know that. But our community has demonstrated its resilience through many challenges over the years and this one will be met by the same steel. We will emerge more together, stronger and connected.

Look after yourselves and those around you. We’ll see you at Fir Park on the other side.

    Andrew Wilson rejoins the board

    Tuesday 17 March 2020

Andrew Wilson has rejoined the board of Motherwell Football Club as a director.

Andrew is a well-known figure in business and public life as an economist, former politician and communications strategist.

An elected member of the first Scottish Parliament in 1999, he served as a shadow minister across various departments before joining RBS in 2003 in a number of roles, including as deputy chief economist and head of group communications.

Wilson, who was previously on the board between 2010 and 2015 and was a key player in the creation of the ‘Well Society, is now a founding partner of strategic communications firm Charlotte Street Partners.

Chairman Jim McMahon said: “We conducted a review into the skill set and the make up of the board and Andrew is an excellent candidate to rejoin.

“He is experienced in both the public and private sector and is extremely well respected and connected. I am delighted we’ve managed to add someone of his standing.

“We will continue to review the position with the Supervisory and ‘Well Society boards around further integration of directors, following some of our recent objectives being achieved.”

Andrew will join chairman Jim McMahon, vice chair Douglas Dickie, chief executive Alan Burrows and Tom Feely on the board at Fir Park.

“It is a privilege for me to play a part in helping my club succeed and grow,” he said of his appointment.

“Motherwell FC’s purpose is extremely important to its community and it is a source of great joy and improvement for many people.

“We have ambitious plans to continue its success and I rejoin at a time when I don’t think the club has been better stewarded.

“We have a tough crisis to navigate and must play an active part in getting our community and the country through it.”

Anyone remember why this final close season early 70s tour game in Columbia was cancelled?

is it a different tour to the summer of 1976 ?

During the close season the club under took a trip to Mexico, Haiti and Columbia. The tour started in the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, where Ian Taylor scored in a 2-1 defeat to Toluca. In the second game in Haiti, Isaac Farrell scored the winner in a victory over Violette. In the third game against Racing of Haiti, Ian Kennedy was the scorer in a 2-1 defeat. The final game saw Willie Pettigrew score in 2-1 loss to Santa Fe of Columbia.

This would be an example of the lean times coming up, do we have a reserve?

If only we had maintained that purpose/goal from the orignal plan.....  hopefully this situation puts a focus back on the society creating a security fund,   instead of solely rasing funds for day to day running of the club , which should be self financing , especially now the debt has been cleared (credit in part to society helping fund day to day)

I'm sure the minds could come up with a plan that would allow for both with funds being able to be released proportionally over longer term for significant projects ,  if we look to the longer term future a growth fund can only be good and provides leverage for so much more.

Short term however, we own the club through the society...... so any extra funding is going to be helpful if this shutdown has a real financial impact

Anyone know why they couldn't just play it tonight behind closed doors?

I'd guess as employers the clubs still have a responsibility to their staff,  the SFA to their staff,  the SPFL/SFA as governing bodies to all

its not just about the virus a potential spread in  the workplace or at events ,

its also about ensuring emergency services are being freed up to be able to manage what is 'expected' to be a very tough time.
