  2. As LadyWell alludes to I'm sure Brown and Knox will be savvy enough to use criticism of the pitch as a tool to drive the players on today. With his comments the Accies assistant has in effect already done a wee bit of the teamtalk for us. "Look boys they are saying the pitch helped you beat them last week and it'll be different this week. You going to stand for that? Get out there and prove you can beat them on any kind of surface".
  3. Perhaps they are keeping their powder dry for someone else or feel the money would be better spent renewing contracts of the existing players? Or that now knowing what he can offer they can better asses how much he's needed in the summer when we know better who's staying and going. I would have to say the need for a right-back has become a lot less pressing over the last few weeks given how Hateley has performed. That goes in conjunction with some excellent displays from Lasley and Jennings in the middle of the park meaning there isn't an urgency to get him back into midfield. Given that you've Crazy Legs Saunders who can come in at right-back if need be and we still have cover in Giles Coke and Ross Forbes for centre-mid then I can understand if they felt that Spence wouldn't dramatically improve things then it makes sense not to use up resources at the moment.
  4. Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure unless we happen to get a Scottish commentary team taken out to South Africa, which I would suspect would be unlikely. I suspect it'll be the usual case of if they can't directly relate a player or game to the England team, it'll be some tenuous connection to the Premier League to try to keep it topical and relevant for what in the main will be an English audience. I would think they would more likely say he was once sought after by Manchester United as a youngster than say that he actually played for Motherwell. But aye, if he does do a turn for us it will give an extra wee interest when watching New Zealand's games.

    Tom Hateley

Me too! So have made a subtle change to the topic title to avoid further hopes being dashed.
  7. One could say tough shit. Its "his thread" he sets the tone.....

  9. There should have been loads more talk about the pitch being so bad so Rangers go out there believing they can't play on it, regardless of whether they actually can or not. Let's face it we are going to get slaughtered win, lose or draw from all the hacks that only ever come to Fir Park when the Old Firm do. So any wee psychological advantage that we can take from the pitch, lets use it.
  10. Just shows you how views differ. That excellent piece of defending aside I didn't think Stevie was at the races at all on Saturday and Imrie gave him a pretty tricky afternoon. In contrast I thought Jennings was right at home in a congested midfield battle where his battling qualities shown through.
  11. I think Saturday was no more sinister than us trying to be a bit more solid and difficult to breakthrough at that stage of the game. Fizzy's introduction in itself was an attempt to do the same and I think Hateley offers for strength and bite than Forbes would have in that role. I still think he will have a role to play under Brown though personally I'm not so sure on the left hand side of midfield is the best place for him. We seem to have tried two or three there since Brown took over in attempt to best fill that role. As has been said already played centrally and pushing forward offers us the best opportunity of taking advantage of his shooting abilities and if and when he does lose the ball there's more "hauners" about in the middle of the park to regain it quickly. Defensively he isn't the greatest and I think stuck out on the wing leaves him that bit more exposed. He's at that delicate stage now after bursting on to the scene where he has to take the next stage in his game and prove he can do it consistantly and it wasn't just a flash in the pan. Improved fitness and stamina, more match experience and encouragement from the stands and the bench will hopefuly help him do that. Its a bit of shame that he has faded somewhat from the form at the beginning of the season as it was a fantastic success story. I mean Robbie Keane scores a penalty - whoop de fucking do that's not a story - a young player who hadn't played any SPL or first team football outwith Division Three in Scotland rattling in nearly 10 goals from midfield, a couple of goal of the season canidates among them - that's a story!
  12. I don't know why but I always thought he looked like he should have been a German soldier in a war film with his blonde hair and a rather menacing stare. A stick on for Hitler Youth at least...... He actually had quite a good shut-out record at the start, though that might have partly been down to Kampman's defensive set up.
  13. Job done! Not pretty but got the desired outcome in a derby so very happy indeed with that. There were a couple of heart in mouth moments when Accies heaped bodies in the box but outwith that we were pretty much the better side if not exactly dominating them. Until the pitch begins to dry out a bit I think its going to be a bit of a slog in our home games so its pleasing that we do have a fair bit of character and the ability to dig in and work hard for the result as we've done against both St Mirren and Hamilton. I think we will have to up our game a bit against them next week over there but we'll worry about next week. For now, derby win, 5 shut outs in a row, pushing clear of 7th place. Nice!

    February Meeting

Cheers for the feedback and information Joe. As I said they were purely a couple of points to chuck into the ring for discussion. After that I'm happy to leave them to you and the other board members to discuss if there's any merit in them.
  16. A wee nosey about on one of the Accies sites was quite enlightening - apparently they could be missing two or three of their more important players. Curier and McLaughlin are meant be out with doubts over Alex Neil and Wesowlowski - the wee shite that put Forbes off his penalty. Not that we should be overly fretting about any opposition players but hey every wee advantage that can be gleaned.... I would that if we play as we can with current confidence we should have enough about us to see Accies off. If it gets tough, tight and scrappy then I'm still pretty confident as I think we've enough spirit and doggedness about us to be able to handle that if it comes to it. Any kind of home win will do!

    February Meeting

Couple of things that are interlinked that you might want to consider for the meeting on Monday. Firstly I remember contributing a very small amount each month to the 'Pitch In' fund. Though my donation was a meagre amount I do recollect being fairly motivated to donate with the thought that the money would directly benefit the club and as a consequence it could be on something that in return would benefit 'Well fans. Is it worth re-visiting this now you have re-grouped and increased membership? What I don't remember though was if there was any specific project ever mentioned that would be the recipient. I remember lots of talk of a fabled Disabled Enclosure but can't mind if that was 'Pitch In' related. Would there be merit in looking to assist the club with the costs incurred in securing training facilities over the winter period as a possible target fund? Every year without fail once we hit winter we hear stories of a struggle to find facilities. This year we've been fortunate that Toryglen is now available but that must cost a bit to hire. Worth the Trust chipping in a contribution? An alternative could be trying to assist maximising what we currently use. I have no idea how much the cost of frost covers but if it was a feasible amount would that help them use Dalziel more often in winter? The benefits are clear in that it helps the team retain fitness, can work on coaching and if it reduced time spent on the pitch at Fir Park (someone said they had been training on it pre-St Mirren game - don't know if true or not) then that has to benefit us. Just some thoughts.
  18. Francois Dubordeaux and to a lesser extent Mark Brown. Both had their moments in their time at Fir Park without question, in Dub's case most notably in that 1-0 win over Rangers shown on the BBC. To me though both seemed to have a reputation above their actual ability simply because they weren't Stevie Woods.
  19. Stevie Cowan, of fat round a worth a million pound fame, raised similar during the commentary at Falkirk. He dismissed a save of McGregor's saying Ruddy's at Tannadice was for him without question the best save of the season.

  21. Glenn Hoddle Academy! Shows my ignorance. I thought that was just a made up thing in Football Manager
  22. Clearly touched by winning the poll, Ruddy gives his acceptance speech and thanks > here

  24. I'll take that. Think it was Tweed who said the other day that a point away at any SPL ground is not to be sniffed at. Even more so when you are down to 10 men for more than 45 minutes. All in all with Brown's appointment confirmed to the end of the season, Ruddy and Lukas also confirmed to the end of the season and an away point and clean sheet, its not been too bad day for the Dossers.
  25. Puts us down to 7th then if the scorelines remain the same.
