  1. He wasn't on the bench on Saturday either and the same thought struck me. I might imagine that given we knew Carson would be back at some point, Fox was progressing quicker than anticipated and we'd signed Chapman that Archer was recruited on an "as required" basis. Probably one of those ones that work out well for both, shake hands and see you later. We've had cover on a short term basis and he gets a wedge for a bit whilst putting himself in the shop window.
  2. Not that your assertion of it being a "sting" is necessarily incorrect but was it not the case that he and Boyle were supposed to be there to form an association with an Aussie team for future cherry picking as we had kind of done with Workington and had friendly chats with Aston Villa that brought us Neil Tarrant? I seem to remember that instead of the usual "Uncle Terry went to Oz and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" the bold Tel came back with a 7ft 2 defender in his luggage.
  3. A couple involved in the Dundonald Bluebell v Queen's Park Scottish Cup tie in Ross MacLean and Bob McHugh. On BBC Scotland currently.
  4. I like Grimmy. As has been stated already his attitude and effort is unquestionable. I have no qualms about him being brought back to the club nor the decision to extend his contract a couple of times. Whilst there is a good argument for quality over quantity you do still need *some* versatility in the squad. He has played right-back, is currently playing left-back and it isn't so long ago he was trusted as a defensive midfielder in a Cup Final so he undoubtedly provides that to a decent standard. And I would suggest what he's doing now is exactly why he is here as we await the return of Jake Carroll. Where the questions mark would arise for me is if he is required for an extended period then something isn't 100% right. Like just now when we have required to revert to a back-to-basics approach where organisation and attitude is perhaps more important than flair and creativity. He is in the team now as much for what he brings to the team through his character as his ability. Or last season when he featured at right-back for a good while because we had Carroll and Dunne out and needed to shift Tait across. Would he be a starter in my first eleven? Probably not. But I'd have him in my squad for as long as he wanted to be at the club.
  5. A tough one to take but I can't say the equaliser wasn't expected given how many chances we had passed up to put the game to bed. There are games where you just get the feeling that there is a sting in the tail coming and so it proved. It's an outcome I would probably have been pretty content with beforehand but given the fact we were ahead, dominant for the vast majority of the game and had so many opportunities to kill them off then it is without question a couple of points dropped. Unfortunately it also feels like we've been masters of our own downfall to a certain extent too with some poor decision making towards the end of the game. Performance wise it was pretty decent. In fact over the last three games which some were writing off completely, they've probably performed better than anticipated. The next two however are much more about simply getting as many points on the board as possible, with performances secondary.

  7. First away win in 2020 came in the city of Dundee. Last away win in 2020 will come in the city of Dundee. Right?

  9. A step forward. A modest step forward granted, but a step forward nonetheless. It felt like a back to basics type set up. Maybe not as open and attack minded as we would want but we setup but solid and generally well organised. They had the Main chance and a half chance from the same early on but nothing massively troublesome from them thereafter. Blanking the team in third isn't the worst and something to build on. Shame about the Polworth chance but a win would have been pushing it a little. I would imagine we'll set up much the same on Saturday and I won't be overly upset if we secure a point in a similar fashion.
  10. There can't be many sides that Motherwell have beaten more under Stephen Robinson than Aberdeen. Seven Up?
  11. I am running the site. That's why I've directed you to the thread with the title that says 2020/21 Transfer Discussion Thread with the 78 pages worth of chat about exactly that. Shame you've thrown your toys out the pram about that. Thanks
  12. An alternative analogy might be keep sending someone to the van with only enough money for a tub, don't be greetin too much when they rarely bring you back a double nougat.

  15. Better outcome than I expected. Better performance than I expected. But way more frustrated than I expected to feel too. Perfect start with the early goal and for what, the first hour, it was pretty routine stuff for Archer to deal with. Tiredness was beginning to show but the temptation to simply hold on proved to be too tempting. We were already struggling to get up the park by that stage to take yet another option out of the equation just made the one way traffic incessant. The choice of replacement for Watt was definitely wrong. Cole, who has already scored at Ibrox or even Seedorf to take advantage of his pace seemed much more obvious choices. Two opportunities to make proper clearances with Grimshaw initially and then Archer's weak clearance (some of his distribution incidentally was miles out) and a break of the ball later that was it. I suspect many would have felt at that point the game was up. Disappointing to concede the second from a corner when we had so many bodies in there defending and the third had that feeling of being academic. I take some encouragement from the way they went about their business today. Effort couldn't be faulted. Bodies were put on the line to block shots and crosses but we ran out of steam, made poor choices I think with the changes, ran out of luck and here we are regretful at having fluffed an opportunity at Ibrox where you're a goal up with twenty minutes left.
  16. I think the horror story actually goes back way beyond two decades. There's the odd home win here and there but we might averaging something like a win a decade at Ibrox over the last sixty years. I have absolutely confidence in getting any kind of result but whilst Motherwell sides that have been challenging for Europe and the top end of the table have gone there and lost even Maurice Malpas side managed a draw there so you do never know.
  17. I find the suggestions of interest in Seedorf from English Championship sides quite a head scratcher. I think of wide players such whom we're profited from like Marvin Johnson who had trickery, delivery and finishing ability to go with his pace. He demonstrated his ability at our level over a fairly decent period. Or a bit before in Chris Humphrey who might be a better example of someone who came to us raw, with pace but with little in the way of footballing intelligence. By the time he left he was a much more complete player. But I look at Sherwin and but for the opening month or two, where he scored two or three crackers and looked like had he a fair bit of potential, I can't see any evidence of progression from him that might warrant interest from that level. He would certainly be one I wouldn't be upset about sacrificing in January if the opportunity arose to use the proceeds elsewhere.

  19. Taken in isolation, I don't think we actually deserved to lose that. Not that a draw is necessarily good enough mind you, but still, a defeat was harsh on us I felt. They had a few chances condensed the early part of the game and we had a few chances condensed in the latter part of the game. They scored from one of theirs, we didn't. I don't think Robinson did himself many favours with the starting line up which looked light on creativity and the fears that we will all have had the minute we conceded about our ability to come back, proved to be well founded. In recent weeks the most balanced we've looked with a *relative* amount of solidity and some attacking threat was when Cole, Watt and a wide man taking on a full-back were involved up front; O'Hara was alongside Gallagher in central defence and we had Polworth, Campbell and Maguire in midfield. It wasn't a massive surprise that when that fell into place in the last half an hour again we looked as good over the last three or four games. It's no silver bullet. It's no world beating set up. But where we are just now, it looks as good as we put together when we are facing teams of a similar ilk. But of course we can't just take it isolation can we? There's a Cup run and a growing number of games without a win immediately behind us and God help us next weekend. As a strong supporter of Robinson I fear for the momentum that could be built up between now and the January transfer window when the chances comes to make some necessary changes.
  20. Surely we can't lose three home games in a calender year to St Mirren. Can we?
  21. A flattering scoreline perhaps but you couldn't say Hibs didn't fully deserve the win. I thought the first half was pretty even and at the interval I thought we'd done pretty well. For all Hibs are often lauded and we've been largely uninspiring this season they looked no better than us in that opening forty five and we might even have been in front had the goal stood. It gave cause for encouragement. The performance levels in the second half were significantly different however. We fell away badly whilst they looked much more like a team with the reputation they have. And whilst twe failed to take the chances, or half-chances that came our way whilst we were on top they were much more clinical with the opportunities that came their way. Poor defending to give up the opportunity for the goal so soon after the warning with Archer's instinctive save and further misfortune for us with Mugabi's header off the post but after that there was nothing. No real head of steam built up that gave hope for an equaliser and a pretty lame capitulation in the final few minutes. As well placed as we are courtesy of those additional six points, I see little to suggest we're capable of putting any sort of sustained run together that might enable us to put in a genuine attempt at European qualification or that we are sufficiently awful that we'll get relegated. I think unless there's a bit of tweaking to the squad in January it's going to be more of the fairly non-descript mid-table nothingness. Win a couple, a lose a couple. That's clearly better than being embroiled in a relegation battle but in a season where people are already apathetic about watching at home, it does little to keep the enthusiasm high.
