  1. Or in an hour and 3 minutes when we concede an early goal.
  2. Because you get good players cheap, presumably and hope someone will stump up a hundred grand here or there from time to time. I'm not saying it's a great policy, but the business people on the board obviously decided that we are in risk-averse mode these days, rather than in speculation. You can always point to an Accies and say, well if they can do it so can we, but they did it by keeping costs low and playing the lower division for years. In our league Dundee Utd needed a benefactor to take over their multi-million pound debt, so it doesn't seem to be generating them huge profits either compared to their investments.
  3. Of course, in a prefect world, every decision made and every penny spent would be a sound investment. But I disagree about the business model not changing. We went from a club who signed players on 3 year contracts and payed transfer fees, to a club who never pays a transfer fee and only offers 2 year contracts. That pre-dated McCall.
  4. Short-termism is the curse of the professional game.
  5. I know your being facetious, but our business model changed some time back when we started offering 2 year contracts due to financial restrictions. We don't have the money to risk tying up half a dozen youngsters on long term deals in the hope that one of them makes it.
  6. I seem to remember the club saying after the vote that it was in their longer term interests to up the prize money across other positions because (obviously) they will finish not 2nd a lot more often than they will finish 2nd.
  7. To be fair, there are savvy business minds at the club such as Derek Weir.
  8. Could mean a foreign investor or just a non-Lanarkshire, non Motherwell supporting one. But again, that is just speculation until we hear more details.
  9. Unless that someone wants to build a supermarket at Fir Park and groundshare us with Accies.
  10. Unless you are a lawyer and have read every detail of the Trust's documentation, none of us can say exactly what Boyle can and cannot do with his shares. It's never that simple (as anyone down Ibrox way will testify).
  11. Hopefully there will be more details after the meeting on Thursday. Maybe the potential buyer is someone who wants to control the club - which would mean the end of The Society being able to take a majority share. Or maybe, the potential buyer is someone who wants to develop the ground into a new Asda. Difficult to tell. A change of ownership isn't necessarily a bad thing, but equally could be a disaster. As with all these things, the (usually legally necessary) secrecy makes it difficult to assess. If a million quid load is all that's required to keep the "Community Club" the council should stump up the cash. Good for the community and a return on investment for the tax payer.
  12. The Well Society has bailed the club out twice since it started. Maybe you see that as a waste of time, but for me, that was a good thing.
  13. Raising investment from wealthy fans and local businessses was one of the goals of The Society, but none were interested. That's why we resorted to the loans instead. Realistically, nobody would want to throw money away at a club like ours.
  14. From what I heard, the email implied that there was a potential buyer for the club and the 1 million would be sufficient for the Well Society to obtain the shares instead. That, plus it would allow them to restructure their finances over the next 5 years. The sad thing is, in the grand scheme of things, 1 million is peanuts when you look at the cash that flies around in the game. 1 month's worth of expense at Ibrox could set us up for 5 years.

I think 'Flow (or one of his minions) was still trying to work out how live commentary could be offered, as there are some SPFL/SFA/YouTube/Tufty Club regulations that need to be addressed.
  16. Aye, and Henrik will rupture a ligament watching it on telly.
  17. Agree with all of that. Although, to be fair, the Well Society was really the only avenue available to the club at the time, and if it didn't exist, we could have been in serious financial trouble. Hopefully the new soft loans will be made as planned next month and our cash flow will be in better shape for the transfer window.
  18. Is it too much to hope that St. Johnstone get a much deserved win tonight after Rangers kick them off the park injuring half a dozen of their best players?
  19. The SPL came about for the simple reason that Rangers and Celtic wanted to play each other as often as possible every season. They milked that dry and so the newer formats were created. They continue to milk the current format dry and the other clubs just bend over and take it. I'm not sure why you think there is quick fix. When a situation is allowed to develop over a number of years, and some of its participants have facilitated the decline, the fix is not likely to be anything other than a longer term process. Some ideas (which are hardly radical) might include: 1) Getting rid of the man who can't find a sponsor for the league and who is on record as saying it doesn't concern him. 2) Bringing in someone who can get a sponsor for the league. 3) Bringing in someone who talks the game up and markets it properly instead of talking it down, and broadcasting doom and gloom about the lack of Rangers. 4) Splitting the league revenues more equitably between teams. 5) Stop messing around with schedules so fans can plan to attend games. 6) Get rid of the split in the league 7) Related to 6), stop playing the same teams so often 8. Getting a winter break in. What in reality is going to happen is that, once Rangers are back in the top flight, magically a league sponsor will appear and 90% of the money will be sent directly to the OF. They will continue to take an unfair share and more clubs will end up going to the wall. And everybody will be afraid to vote against the OF because half the chairmen in the country are fans of one side or the other, and the other half only care about the short term viability of their club - not the long term viability of the game.
  20. So what is the answer when you have a small squad with injury problems and a few players out of form?
  21. "Administration induced relegation"? I think you made that one up.
  22. Erwin deserved his chance over Clarkson every day of the week. If he didn't get a promoted to the first team squad this season, the U20s might as well pack up and go home. Of course, nobody would have predicted Sutton would be as ineffective as he has been, but with him, Erwin and Moore on the books, it really didn't make as much sense as signing Ojamaa. It's easy to say Clarkson would have been a better option now (although 1 game against us is hardly a benchmark), but at the time, I didn't hear many complaining about Henrik's signing.
