  1. Partly why, despite all his faults, I think we need Bevis in there. He is the only commanding centre half we have. In the centre of a 3 when all he needs to do is head and kick it, he does just fine. Its when he is in the wider position or in a 2 and his positional sense is tested he tends to get caught out.
  2. All good things come to those who wait. There's a lesson there for some......
  3. I will go........ Dundee (A) 1 pts Hibs (H) 1 pt Ross County (A) 1 pts Livingston (H) 3 pts Aberdeen (A) 1 pts St Johnstone (H) 1 pt Hibs (A) 0 pts
  4. Slim pickings yeaterday. None of our forward players had good games. Thought McGinn was way off his usual standards. SOD had a very steady first half and a good second half. But Gent was the only real stand out yesterday. The quality of his delivery is as incredible as Bairs inability to get on the end of it.
  5. Terrible game of football. Thought we started brightly enough and created a couple of decent chances but it dropped off quickly and the goal we lost was typical of the mistakes we have been making all season. That gave St Mirren something to defend and we really didnt look like we had it in us to unlock their defence. Bair was awful yesterday and looked more like the player we had at the start of the season than the guy who was unplayable against Rangers. It was a real shock when he actually got across his man to score the equaliser. Tactically, I thought SK had it all wrong yesterday. Vale and Spittal are 2 of our better performers and they were rendered somewhat impotent by where they were deployed (and having Vale so wide left Bair isolated. Im definitely still in the keep SK camp, but once again his tactics and in game management were up for question. Ultimately a point isnt bad in the circumstances but it was in spite of everything, not because of it.
  6. Just win. By any means necessary......
  7. I also think its good man management by Clarke at the moment. He probably knows Kelly (or maybe Clark) isnt going to be on the plane as Gordons experience will surely be preferred. But if something happens to Gordon between now and then and he has cut one of the other keepers adrift it doesnt look great. Best to keep them all involved right now until a decision has to be made.
  8. Kellys confidence has been low of late. Getting away with Scotland is a break away from Motherwell and gives him something different to think about. He gets to train with better players, better coaches and has to compete against better keepers for his place. That all changes the mindset and should have him coming back to us in a more positive frame of mind. Whether he plays or not, he is in the Scotland international squad and his next contract will reflect that. Unlikely to be with us, but he will certainly benefit from it as opposed to not being in the squad. Clarke will judge his keepers by comparing what they do in training and by taking the advice of his goalkeeping coach. The best one gets the nod.
  9. Brodie Spencer had a very good game for N.Ireland last night at LWB! Imagine playing him in that position! 😆
  10. He didnt play Clarke or Gordon either. Obviously wanted a look at all 4 keepers in training to decide who is going to the Euros. Personally think it will Be Gunn, Gordon and Clarke, but having Kelly in the Scotland squad is beneficial to him and us.
  11. Spittal left Dundee United 7 years ago aged 21. He is now 28 and in his prime footballing years. Comparing the 2 is pointless and unfair on the player. Given the that 7 years have elapsed and he has had 3 clubs since then its fair to say he is now much more experienced. Hearts are clearly getting a much better player than the one United had. As for spending the money on KVV, I think we have done that one to death. We need to maximise the value for money we can get. KVV no longer represents that due to what he now earns. Too much risk attached for the cost.
  12. I agree. I also like that we appointed the CEO and he is therefore more likely to work in the interests of the club/society than one appointed by an investor. Shrewsbury fans seem to love him and he appears a big supporter of fan culture / community. Seems like a good fit. https://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2023/05/03/shrewsbury-town-fans-pay-tribute-to-departing-chief-executive-brian-caldwell/
  13. I understand the sentiment. But they didnt really die. Only Rangers did that. 😉
  14. Youd like to think not. We got a guy in on terms that suited us. He played well for 2 seasons (has been exceptional this season) and has got himself a bigger move off of those performances. The deal has worked for both parties and he is a great example for us to showcase to other prospective new signings. Its the model we have to work with now, so we need to get used to it. Would havr been nice if we had managed to get top 6 sooner and pushed the boat out for him, but realistically Hearts would still have been able to top that. Good luck to him. He will have my support until the end of the season.
  15. Good to get someone in post Hopefully he has the necessary skills and experience to be a success. It also hopefully means that the Well Society has exerted some control/authority over the investment opportunities and we will take our time to find the right one for the club rather than just dropping our drawers at the first offer.
  16. 3-1 Motherwell. For no other reason than trying to generate a positive feeling around this fixture!
  17. Probably. But it would be good to see him back and have the management team assess whether he has developed any. If not, happy for him to move on.
  18. I know not everyone on here is a Scotland fan, but cant you even hear yourself? I try not to bite with some of the stuff you post, but this is reactionary nonsense. Given the amount of injuries we have suffered with our players in training this kind of thing could easily have happened had international football not even be a thing. But seeing as it is and Im Scottish, I love to see our players being picked for Scotland (and any of the other countries our players play for). It shows they and we are doing well. Enjoy your summer watching cricket or whatever other meaningless shit you fill your time with.
  19. This is what we do. We take players, improve them, and move them on. It would have been nice if we could have got a fee for Spittal, but at least it is another one in a long line of players we have improved who have gone on to bigger things. Should help us attract a suitable replacement......
  20. Regardless of the repsonse, its a good strong statement from the club putting our position and that of the fans on record. If other clubs do likewise, the pressure on the SFA / SPFL will be ramped up. They cant ignore it forever.
  21. FWIW I dont expect us to beat St Mirren, Dundee or Hibs. I just live in hope. Im not sure I could keep turning up at Fir Park if I thought we were going to lose every week. (Not that Im saying thats your position.) I know its the hope that kills you, but I cant help myself! 😆
  22. He has been very impressive. Would love to get him back next season. However, I suspect after the performances he has put in here a "higher level" loan will be likely. But given our success with Biereth and now Vale we should ve seen as a good destination for prospective loanees.
  23. All results are possible. You wont be surprised to know my glass will remain half full....... .......until its confirmed to be half empty! 😆😆😆
  24. KvV was brilliant for 6 months. The chances of us getting him back and him also replicating that form are slim. Lets just remember the good times and move on.
  25. The problem with speculate to accumulate is that it doesnt come risk free. Look at us under Dempster/McCall. We were spending significantly more then than we are now and we did get higher league positions, the odd cup run and European football. It was good fun, but we made significant losses every season that could not be sustained. Look at Dundee United, Hibs and Aberdeen. They have all been spending significant sums of cash in order to "speculate to accumulate" and none of them have any better recent records than ourselves. I think fiscal prudence in our current fan owned set up is not only wise but necessary to ensure our continued existence. The last couple of seasons havent been easy, but it looks like we will retian our top flight status this season and be in a better position to build and move forward next season. Given the changes that are coming down the line at executive level, keeping faith in the manager that has been through the process and allowing him to build in what he has done so far seems sensible to me.
