Most of us were calling out for a commanding centre-half to be signed during the transfer window, but, instead, we signed umpteen full-backs and Shaw, with some of them barely featuring or not at all yet.

We definitely needed a centre half in january, somebody to come in and help steady the ship and maybe give the rest of them a boot up the arse,we have enough defenders on our books and not one of them are pulling there weight,I guess we will see the likes of blaney and casey brought back in but I don't expect that will make any difference.

Yes forward players doing there job. Devine good but defending poor from central defence. Keeper Kelly poor too. Needs replaced.

Aye Kelly is over the place at the minute and we umpteen defenders to pick from but it's the same outcome no matter who plays, defensively were a shambles.

  3. Don't really know what to make of that,to be 3-0 up then happy enough with a point is pretty grim.the big concern throughout the whole of january was our forward options but there doing there bit and its our backline thats let us down again, the sooner we see the back of the majority of them the better.

He played very well when we drew 1-1 with Celtic in November. I agree he's got his faults and his weak points but I don't think he's as bad as some people are suggesting. I think it's been obvious when he's lost confidence. Not just him either.

I might regret typing this given that we have a game tonight.Β

I've been critical of kelly this season, none more so than after friday night but like you say his confidence is gone,we all know he's capable of better as we have seen it especially when he first joined us.the goalkeeper position is more of a conundrum than any other,do we drop kelly for a guy that we know nothing about or hope that kelly can turn his form around,I personally think kettlewell will stick with Kelly, let's hope we're on here tonight praising him after a win.

  5. Kettlewell will be here until the end of the season, there's no way the club will get rid of him before then,if they wanted to it would have happened a few games back when we were in a worse position than we are now.we definitely looked like we had turned a corner but the morton game was a right kick in the balls, hopefully there isn't any lasting damage from that defeat and we move on quickly.i would personally like us to part with kettlewell at the end of the season but I've no idea what direction the club will go in,if kettlewell is to remain we need a big clear out, guys like mugabi and o'donnell need to go.

  6. If we can get through this season still in the top flight, then there's plenty of room to make changes to the team for next season with the amount of players that are out of contract.i would keep mcginn for another year and slattery is most likely going to offered something due to his injury, spittal is the priority but I think he will end up elsewhere.elliot and nicholson surely have to prove there worth to be offered anything for next season, the squad needs to be finally rid of the likes of maguire and mugabi and I hope obika even just with sub appearances here and there isn't enough to trigger a years extension.

He'll never command his box, that's just not his style. We can live with that so long as we have a big solid central defence and wing backs who can stop crosses, to compensate for that, but unfortunately we don't.Β

Exactly,we find ourselves with a goalkeeper who can't command his box and who's confident must be about rock bottom as well as central defenders that are all over the place anytime the ball comes in from the wide area,it's a recipe for disaster and that will be targeted by every opposition between now and the end of the season.we seemed to have tried every combination at centre back but yet we still concede amateur level goals on a weekly basis.kelly can't be installing any confidence in the guys in front of him and vice versa, the defence are just as bad,it's time he was taking out the team and we gave oxborough a go but i think as long as we're struggling and relegation is still a possibility I think kelly will be in the team same as someone like o'donnell,I think kettlewell will stick to what he knows than risk going with more untried players.

They played the ball on the deck far more often than we did, unlike us they didn't continually resort to the hoof ball. Indeed for their second goal the ball never left the surface. I'm in no way suggesting Morton were a silky deck playing team but the played the ball on the surface more than we did. Every time SOD , Kelly,Β  Miller, or Butcher got the ball you knew it was going skywards.Β

I couldnt agree more,we all know the last thing you do is punt the ball all over the park when the wind is blowing all over the place so for paidΒ  professionals to continually do it last night is mind boggling, add in the fact that we were punting it to bair who was never going to get any joy against there two centre halves and it makes it even worse.it actually looked like our tactic last night was give the ball to kelly as much as possible so he could hoof it forward and his distribution is dire,we couldn't have played into mortons hands anymore than we did and paid the ultimate price of being out the cup.

Absolutely. Missed opportunities. Our substitutions tonight smacked of desperation. I would have thought that Vale could have been given more gametime and yes, surely Nicholson has 20 minutes in him?Β

Maybe in a minority of one here but I don't think McGinn and O'Donnell should both play in the centre. I'd keep McGinn as he's been a steadying influence there and, as tonight proved, we need more muscle and height in there. According to SK, O'Donnell was touch and go anyway for tonight due to family circu, stances.Β

Agreed the subs tonight were desperate,we should have made a couple of positive changes at half time as you could have written the script for the second half,we concede and then panic into making changes and thats what happened,to then make the changes and still play the same way is even more bizarre, having mugabi up front is a desperate act that's been tried now for like 3 years,it's never going to be the answer.we we're heading out the cup with barely a whimper we didn't need to persist with 3 centre half's,for me butcher should have been hooked and nicholson on for the last 20 minutes.im not a big fan of o'donnell but I think he's going to be one of they guys that plays no matter what with devine as backup and the new zealand boy nowhere to be seen.

The thing is. It's easy for us to say that looking on. The amount I know about football management is the square root of nil.Β

You know as much as me thenΒ πŸ˜‚.just going back to the county game, that was the perfect scenario to get some of our january signings some game time, there won't be many times left this season if any, when were 3-0 up,if guys like nicholson can't get on then when will they.

  11. 1 minute ago, wellgirl said:

To be fair hes probably still a bit short of full match fitnessΒ

Granted he will still be getting upto speed but surely he has enough in him for 15-20 minutes when the game was stretched,it would have been a better option than mugabi upfront.nicholson should have got some decent minutes against county when we had the game won to help him get upto speed.

  12. Any joy that we were getting in the second half was coming from the wide areas,we should have got nicholson on to have a go at there left back who's legs had gone and was on a booking.i.know we were desperate but putting mugabi up front who just charges about fouling folk is beyond stupidity.i hope nicholson isn't going to be one of they players come the end of the season were saying what the fuck did we sign him for and not play him.

To be fair you always get upsets in the cup. It goes with the territory.Β

Exactly,to be honest I'm not surprised one bit we lost tonight, away from home to a side on a good run,the ingredients were there for an upset.the fear for me is that we could quite easily repeat two performances like that in a play off.i know I'm getting a little ahead of myself there but let's hope we dont end up in that scenario.

  14. We can blame the manager all we want but sometimes the players on the pitch need to be held accountable, that was a fairly experienced team we had out there tonight and we had the same culprits hitting aimless punts up the park to nobody, these guys train with bair everyday, did the really think he would have any joy with the service he got tonight, especially in the first half.take mugabi no matter how much time he has on the ball he still can't find a team mate.no responsibility or leadership throughout tonight and thats not all at the managers door.

He's a Championship jobber; thats his level. Physical enough to make our backline look poor. He'll get found out.Β

Exactly right, let's not be making out the likes of oakley and power would do us a turn, they were better than us tonight but that's it,in reality all it does is highlight our serious deficiencies at the back,no leadership and nobody taking charge yet again.

Got what we deserved. Yet again our captain sets the tone for our performance. The guy is ment to be an experienced goalkeeper, training with international coaches and goalies, yet cannot command his six yard box.

Shameful performance. To get beat is one thing, but to be out battled is another.Β

The sooner kelly is gone the better and chucking them in for a new club the better, what he was attempting at the first goal is a mystery and his distribution is god awful.

  17. It's another body if nothing else and if true that we have got shaw on much reduced terms then you can see why kettlewell has went for it.the bar is pretty low on his previous showings so if we can get anything out of him it'll be a bonus.

  18. I had my heart set on a one nil shitfest so for us to score 5 good goals, keep a clean sheet and really step up in our biggest game of the season I feel pure cheatedΒ πŸ˜‚.in all seriousness that was a great night's work,it's been a while since ive felt like that walking out of fir park, some of our play was a joy at times.i didnt want halliday but on that showing I was wrong, you can tell hes an experienced player just by the position he takes up,spittal was outstanding, his first goal was quality with the build up included but his second was something else and the through ball for vale was a thing of beauty.we have a tricky game on friday but we couldn't have been going into it with anymore confidence after that so bring it on.

Do you honestly think he will score lots of goals, he's looking overweight, hasn't played since November, so it's going to take at least a month to get him match fit he's not the goal machine from last season, but he's Killies problem now.

Exactly,it's going to take a few weeks for him just to get upto speed and killie have some decent options up front as it is so it's not like he's guaranteed to be getting 90 mins every week.by all accounts his mental health had suffered since he went back to holland and then there's theres the birth of his wean, you just wonder how motivated he will be between now and the end of the season.it may well turn out to be an expensive by killie but as you say thats there problem.on the fee we received from groningen, does anybody know if we got that in the one go or are we still owed money?

Quite a few of the new lads had just arrived and are settling in, so its limited what we could /can change during games. However I take your general point that we could have been slightly more adventurous. Given Vale 10 minutes (like KVV was given) or have given Nicholson say 15 minutes (he was given more time at Perth). Miller could have come on a bit earlier, when we began to flag. We need to be more adventurous on Tuesday evening. Β

I totally agree with that,we should have been more adventurous with our subs yesterday, with miller and nicholson being the obvious ones.i think there will be a few games like yesterday still to come this season, tight games at home and we will need to start rolling the dice and going for it,it's the only way we will get out of trouble.i can't fault kettlewell for the starting line up yesterday,we got a decent point the week before so he kept it as it was as most managers would.on some of the new signings,I genuinely think we won't see a great deal of elliot or devine,I can't see o'donnell dropping out, especially when we're still struggling at the bottom for untried and inexperienced players and when blaney and casey are fit enough to play any chance of o'donnell moving into the back 3 is slim.
