No, failing to bring in KVV isn't a problem for me. Killie and to a very slightly lesser extent St Mirren offered silly money, if rumours are to be believed. We shouldn't even have contemplated matching that. FWIW, I never, at any time, thought it was realistic to land him.

My thoughts are the same,we went as high as we could for van veen and it wasn't enough.i did say yesterday morning I hope we weren't putting all our eggs in one basket in terms of bringing him back and it looks like that's what we did, which is disappointing.

How much do we make from Turnbull’s Cardiff transfer, could this not have funded Van Veen, that’s the gamble we should have taken to ensure survival.

We're not getting anything from turnbulls transfer,we needed it to be a much bigger fee for us to get any cut.

  3. The only real saving grace is that livingston,st johnstone and ross county don't seem to have strengthened to any great degree but at the same time it doesn't take away from our own dealings.for 3 forwards to have left and only 1 brought in simply isn't on,were 1 injury away from a complete disaster and with our luck it won't be long until it happens.the raft of full back signings is strange,I get replacing montgomery so we can keep gent further forward but will we go with a loanee or the kiwi boy over o'donnell on the other side,I'm not so sure we will.theres free agents out there so not all is lost,i seen the likes of flo kamberi mentioned over on p&b which is a decent shout, joe efford is now a free and the way we're business the now is more likely.

Wouldn't say we were short in Central defence.

Blaney Casey Mugabi Butcher plus McGinn and ODonnell who can also play there.

We've got numbers in central defence its just that they have all been dross this season, the level of goals we concede is embarrassing.kettlewell came in last season and made us hard to beat,it's obvious he isn't able to do that this time around,we badly needed a new centre half to try and help get us going again and up the performance of the ones that have let us down all season.

Wiki has him as a right back.

    Is that accurate?

Would have thought a left back was the priority given we have Callan Elliot in.

Aye he's definitely a right back which wouldn't make a lot of sense now that we have elliot.scott burns on twitter last night pretty much confirmed we're looking to bring in a left back, striker and potentially another defender so maybe the other defender is devine, personally I would rather we went for a centre half than another right back.

Not convinced we’ll see a CH coming in, and I’m not sure we need it given that we have McGinn, Butcher, Mugabi, Blaney & Casey, with O’Donnell also able to play on the right of a 3 if need be.

2 strikers and someone that can play wide left (if Montgomery’s season is a right off) would be what I’d be after now if poss.

I really hope we bring a centre half in,other than mcginn the rest of them have been extremely poor this season, butcher's legs have gone and casey is coming back from injury.its maybe wishful thinking to get someone in that can have an instant impact like hartley or aldred did bit getting a new face in there might be enough to steady the ship and get some of the others upping there game a bit, there's no way we can keep defending the way we have been.

  7. For all our problems in attack right now it's our defence that's our biggest headache.we need to cut out the cheap goals and quick as that's been our undoing all season.i would say this game will likely end in a draw but it could easily get away from us if we defend like we have been.

  8. If we didn't have bad luck,we wouldn't have any luck,I would gladly see the back of this season the now.kettlewell said one of the main priorities in january was to strengthen the full back positions,I wonder if his hand will now be forced into finding another left back or move gent back there.

I am usually a positive guy but I am genuinely concerned that as it stands we have Bair and Obika up front and thats all.  Every other area looking ok but we need 2 strikers or I really fear the worse

Aye we definitely need atleast 2,whoever we bring in should be coming in with the intention of being in front of obika,no harm to the guy but he just can't be relied on to stay fit.im certain were trying to get strikers in but anything can happen and until there actually signed then I think we have every right to be concerned.i would like a centre half in as well, other than maybe mcginn all our centre backs have been poor this season, there's far to many individual errors being made, getting a new face in might be enough to steady the ship as well as the others upping there game a bit.

I'm going to agree with you that I think Burrows needs to take some responsibility for the state Motherwell are in just now.

I personally think as a club we've shot ourselves in the foot too many times by getting rid of managers that were doing an ok job. I don't think we should have sacked Gannon and I also think Alexander got hounded out (and that's a huge reason as to why I don't want to see Kettlewell go through the same thing).

Gannon was sacked for more than just results on the park,he was a total headcase behind the scenes,I don't think there was many folk that he hadn't fell out with at the end up,the club had no choice but to get rid of him.i know theres been a lot of talk about our standard of signings lately, how we could do with a jennings or humphries right now from that era.

We got £1.2 million for Scott a few years back which was great business.

That has to be right up there in terms of the best bit of business the club has ever done to get that money for scott.i know he got a bad injury when he was at hull but his career has pretty much stalled or he's similar to the likes of hastie and Irwin, where they kinda burst on the scene but couldn't take there game to another level where there not a youngster anymore.its no surprise he's going to st mirren to work with a manager thats got the best out of him so far,im glad we didnt end up with him though as he wouldn't have solved any of our issues.
