  1. Great result without playing particularly well. I thought even without his goals Higdon was superb. He created at least two chances with his lay off and his turn and shot that hit the post were great. He benefitted because we played the ball into his feet much more. Thank God fro Randolph. His save from the mishit shot in the first half kept us in the game. I thought Nish gave young Cummins a tough time and for the first time since he came into the team he was bettered by his opponent. Surely we can put to bed the idea of Hateley in midfield. The irony was that when he went to right back he completely snuffed out their left side with some great tackling and passing and forward runs. If we manage to sign anyone then it should be a defensive midfielder.
  2. Left the game angry at the refs decisions about Hutchie's red card and the throw in that led to the equaliser. However I have just seen the highlights and I am sorry to say I think the ref got both decisions right. Hutchie needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. If someone whacks you get up and walk away. Don't draw attention to yourself and get your revenge against the guy the next time the ball is there. If you have been booked don't dive in like he did. Having said that if he had still been on the park he would have won the header with Thomson that led to their goal. The players looked tired after the game in midweek. We don't have the squad to cope with so many games. Thankfully Europe will be over by Thursday. Maybe we have been unlucky that we have been given two winnable games after Europe. Maybe Celtic and Hearts away would have been better games. Cummins looked a real find and Kerr impressed at right back. We are really missing Jennings as Lasley and Law do not have the insurance of him behind them. Lets hope we do not lose anyone before the window closes and hopefully we can get a couple in. My big fear is that Randolph will be off. In my opinion he is worth 10 -15 points a season.
  3. They should apologise because the SFA wanted us not to pick him until the matter was resolved. Suspect he will be off in the summer now that he is in the clear. Championship or League 1 club will offer much more than we can. So in one sense great news but on another, very sad as in my opinion he is our best player and would love to see him sign on for another year.
  4. Since we never do things the easy way my bet is we need to draw the last game at home to United. We go 2-0 up then with 20 minutes to go they score. Five minutes from time up they score again and we hang on to get third place with the supporters too worn out to celebrate properly when the whistle goes.
  5. Thought the whole team was great today. Randy looked to be very aware of the young guys in front of him and his save in the second half was breathtaking. Young Cummins grew into the game and got better and better as the game went on. Hammy had his problems early on but I don't think Law gives him much help. Solid defensive display though and contender for goal of the season. Humphrey 's pace caused them problems all day. If only his final ball was better. Jennings is possibly the most important player in our team. He covered every blade of grass and how we missed him when he was off for ten minutes. However after a couple of iffy perfomances against Queens Park and last week against Aberdeen I thought Page proved himself today. He really stepped up to the plate. He won most of his headers against taller players and gave a super performance as we held on to win the game . He is my choice.
  6. Rarely have I been so proud of the team as I was today. Ok it wasn't pretty but the young players did brilliantly. I thought Page was the pick of them. He seemed to relish being the senior partner in the middle of the defence. Carswell looks so like Phil O'Donnell. Thought Jennings did a great job covering in front of the defence. Stevie's goal must be a contender for goal of the season. I felt Dundee United beating Rangers was only a good result for us if we won today and we did. Great afternoon.
  7. Lasley is an honest hard working player with very limited ability. (See his record in England) I have never understood the hero worship he gets from the support. Recently I have been watching him closely and yes he often wins the ball but more often than not a passing move we have ends when he gives the ball away. The reaction today when he got stupidly sent off and virtually ended our chances and was then clapped off the park just made me laugh. If Higdon, Hateley, Craigan or whisper Forbes had done what he did the same happy clappies would have been foaming at the mouth. To me Jennings is a far superior player and if we can only afford to keep one of them next season then we should push the boat out to keep Jenno.
  8. Brilliant game last night. How many times have we reduced prices, got a big crowd in and then played crap? Surely some of the extra fans who came along last night will be encouraged to come back after watching that.
  9. I really fear for the day when we start to struggle. I remember relegation from the old first division in 1968 and the years in the eighties when we were in the first division. Then there was the administration season and then the Malpas year. Present day fans do not know they are living. I wonder how new supporters who have seen regular European qualification in recent years will react to a season like one of them. If fans can get into right state bad performances at home against Dundee United, St Mirren and Inverness when we are safely in the top six just wait until we are in a relegation struggle which believe me will come some day, maybe quite soon too. Remember Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee United have supports much bigger than us and if they all got their acts together at the same time they should be in the top six. Enjoy what is happening just now. You do not know what you have got until it has gone.
  10. If the ref had seen Higdon's gesture and thought it was inappropriate he would have given him at most a yellow card. He misses it (or thought it was not inappropriate) some wally in the SFA looks at it thinks it is wrong and Higdon gets the equivalent of a red card. You could not make it up. How about the SFA take action against the refs who are shown up as incompetent week after week.

    Dunfermline

Great to see how different people players performances differently. How anybody could vote for Keith Lasley last night is beyond me. He repeatedly gave the ball away. Yeh he ran about a lot to win it back but a very poor performance from him. Hutch Higdon and Jennings were top men in my book but the vote has to go to Ojamma
  12. I don’t often post my opinion of games and players preferring to read others opinions and keep my thoughts to myself but… I cannot believe the reaction of some on here to Higdon. He is playing probably the hardest position on the park, lone striker with the ball being pumped up to him, back to goal and a defender laying into him from behind. Despite this he wins more balls than he loses and makes good flicks or passes out wide to bring others into the game. To me the problem lies with our much praised midfield. The service to Higdon is poor but also if we are to benefit from his lay offs and flick ons we must have players in midfield who are able and willing to run beyond Higdon. Lasley, Jennings and Hateley are all defensively minded and don’t seem capable of making those sort of runs. Hateley is a good right back but despite what he seems to think he is poor in midfield. He was bad last week against Queens Park and that should have been enough for McCall. Our build up through midfield was far too slow. Contrast how we moved up the park with the way Caley did. When we broke up a Caley attack we passed it around, out to Murphy or Law who both then cut inside and Caley had regrouped I also thought Craigan had an excellent game yesterday. OK he was turned by the guy for the goal but he was commanding otherwise and even his distribution was good. It is interesting to read how differently people see a game and their opinions of different player’s performance. I thought Higdon and Craigan were our best players. If you are looking for players to criticise then top of the list must be Murphy and Law. Murphy has been found out by the opposition. He makes to go down the outside and then turns back inside and gets crowded out. I can’t work out why Murphy was left on. Daley on the left, Humphrey on the right with Ojamma and Higdon through the middle might have stretched them in the last twenty. Murphy was getting nothing out of their right back and Daley might have given him a different problem. As for Law he has been anonymous for weeks. Either get him back on the left where he can combine with Hammell or get him onto the bench.
  13. I thought at the time Jennings was daft. He lost the plot when he did not get the foul for the first tackle and took at wild swing at the player when the ball came near him again. However am I missing something here? Surely if the ref had decided to book him for the reckless tackle (which he deserved) and then decided that the whole thing with Goodwin deserved another yellow card he would have been off and as a result would have got an automatic ONE game ban. How do they think it is fair to give him a two game ban. Or as I said have I missed something?
  14. How does this work in practice. Say if the club says if we sell 8,000 season tickets they will be £100. Do fans then have to promise to buy a ticket and by a certain deadline the club counts the numbers and then decides on the price. What happens if the number falls short of the magic figure. I assume fans can withdraw their offer of buying. What happens if 8015 say they will buy but when it comes to the crunch 300 pull out and don’t buy their ticket. Can’t see it happening personally but I wish we could attract enough people to make it work.
  15. My season ticket works out at £13.50 per game if I get to them all. That for me is good value. I have gone to fewer and fewer away games over the last five years. £20 -£25 is far too much especially when the money is going to the opposition not the Well.
  16. Motherwell has a tradition of great left backs who played for the club for years. Baldy Shaw (before my time) played right throught the fifties. Then Bobby McCallum who others have mentioned. I saw him play and he was outstanding. But as someone else mentioned liked a drink too much and did not achieve his considerable potential. Then there was Joe wark in the late sixties and through the seventies. After them there has been Boyd, McKinnon, McMillan and Hammell, all great players. However to be the best ever you must have played for years and so on this forum there can be no other than Joe Wark as very few posters will remember Baldy Shaw who became groundsman for many years after he stopped playing.
  17. Just looked at the official site and a reserve team beat Dunfermline 3-1 today. Number 4 in the team was listed as Hughes. Was anyone there and was this Stephen Hughes. If so how did he play?
  18. Like others have said I always feared Higdon when he played against us. He seemed to bully Craigan every time. I'm sure I saw him score a cracking goal against us at Falkirk a couple of seasons back. A big strong forward who should get on the end of crosses and hopefully Humph and Jamie will provide them.
  19. Where do you start with that. Everyone said before the game to win we need two things to happen – Celtic to be below par and every one of our players to be on top of their game. I thought Celtic were very poor but unfortunately we never turned up. They were there for the taking but it never happened. Despite that if it hadn’t been for two inches and a referee who was a shite bag we could have gone in at half time 1-1 and a man up. Our big attacking players Humphrey and Murphy never got into the game and so Sutton was left with no service. The conditions were maybe tricky but that is no excuse for the number of passes we misplaced. How often did we gift them possession after our shy. I thought Hutchison after a nervy start and Craigan were our best performers. I also thought that our tactics gave Celtic too much respect and we should have been in their faces much more. It is so annoying to lose to those bastards. Their support is delusional. They sing the praises of a manager who came second in a two horse race and beat us in a cup final when we have a fraction of their budget. Oh I forgot he‘s an Irish Catholic so that makes him great. How much influence did his continual rants at referees have on our ref today. I suspect the ref was scared to send off Mast whatever his name for the hand ball. He knew if he did it would have caused a furore in the media but if he didn’t it would get a couple of lines and be forgotten about. Still its been a great season. One that every Well fan can be proud of. Don’t let the bastards grind you down.
  20. My dad took me to my first game in 1960. I took him to his last game in 1991. I managed to blag a stand seat for him as he could not have stood for 90 or as it turned out 120 minutes. I left him at the main stand and my daughter and I went to the family section. I will never forget meeting him behind the main stand after the game. He was waving his walking stick in the air and gave his grand daughter the biggest hug ever. Sadly he passed on a couple of years later. What a thread I have been in tears reading them. If the players read this thread they will surely bust a gut tomorrow and can be in no doubt what it means to the fans.

    Aberdeen

Went for Humphrey but what a hard man Hutchie is. When Maguire fouled him and he disappeared over the advertising boards I feared he had been injured. But up he got shook himself down and got on with it. Like someone else said he didn't have his best game on Wednesday but played well today.

    Craig Brown

I can imagine Broon sitting in his Milne home tonight totally embarrassed. He has been shown up for what he is. A snivelling wee two faced liar. He talked about his dignity. He did not look very dignified running after Boyle. His interview where he said that the supporters would not have booed him if they knew the full story sounded desperate. Typical of him say something then have absolutely nothing to back it up. When he said the he was glad the police saw the incident this was clearly a bluff. Boyle said something but it was Brown who ran after him so if anyone is in the wrong its him. Another example of him trying to get the high ground. This is the man who wrote anonymous letters to the SFA blaming his backroom staff for things going wrong for Scotland. He’s a serial shagger who treats women like dirt. Its time the media came out and told the truth. It pleases me to think that the abuse he got after the second goal today really got to him. We got our own back today and it feels great.
  23. People around me were surprised at the crowd announcement. I was in the O'Donnell stand. It must have been empty behind me as I don't know where the 6000 empty ones were. They certainly weren't in the Cooper East or South Stand
  24. That is what supporting the Well is all about. Today is why I buy a season ticket every year. The feeling that performance and result gave me was worth every penny of my season ticket. For all you doubters and those that didn’t turn up shame on you. Keep the faith
  25. All I can say is we better hope that we get into the top six. After what I saw yesterday Accies will be relegated and possibly isolated by the time the split comes. Our games in the bottom six will be totally meaningless and will be a taster for a lot of games in a proposed 16 team league. I am old enough to remember the 18 team league in the sixties and we usually finished mid table with around 34 points from 34 games (two points for a win) and we had nothing to play for during the last few weeks of the season.
