  1. Game 2 of PreSeason was away to Patrick Thistle at Lochinch 3G at Pollok Country Park. Some first team regulars were benched to give some potential new signings and trialists a start. A hard working Suzanne Grant got the first for well. Thistle got a goal back. A penalty for Well saw captain Stacy cook give the keeper no chance and HT 2-1 to Well. Was a good first half with some of the new girls settling in well, but this was a hard working thistle team who had gained promotion last year. Plenty of subs in the second half, with Pamela Liddell coming on and scoring with her first touch after a through ball and slotting past the keeper. A further 2 goals for Grant. FT 5-1 to well. Was impressed by the hosts, much improved since I saw them last year beat MLFC Development team 4-0. Was a good preseason game with some good players turning out as trialists. Hopefully see some of them being signed. Nest match is next Sunday home to Dundee Utd WFC. MLFC Development team had their first game yesterday and beat United Glasgow 2-1
  2. I believe pre season game 2 is at Lochinch 3G at Pollok Estate at 1600hrs v Patrick Thistle.
  3. The Ladies had there first pre-season friendly on Sunday at Glasgow Club Nethercraigs. Was good to see so many regulars back for the team for 2017. Especially good to see Pamela Liddell back after 18 months, and a baby, away. The Glasgow City development team were as always strong and well organised with some of the 17's moving up to the Development team. MLFc took the lead with a goal from Suzanne Grant, The post and bar at both ends saw action. City equalised and then took a 2-1 lead. A fair few substitutions from both team before MLFC sub Alise ( Stewart ? ) got the game level again with a good run in from the right wing and a shot from the edge of the box deceived the city keeper. Winner came from no other than Pamela Liddell, through the middle and passed the keeper. Really good pre season game, played almost like a cup tie at times. New signing Christie Kerr had a good steady game at centre half. A good test against a good, strong City Dev team. 2-3 to MLFC final score. Ladies used a couple of U17's and one other player at centre half i didn't recognise. There are a few more pre season matches lined up with the next march away at Patrick Thistle Ladies on Sunday. Dont know place and time yet.
  4. The SWPL official site has started updating for 2017 season. http://www.womenspremierleague.co.uk There is a piece on MLFC Ladies with an interview from Mark Kirk, so hope to see more about MLFC on that site. I think the Ladies team start back pre season on 10th January or thereabout I will be back in the New Year and try to keep people updated with my unofficial views from a fans perspective on the Ladies team.
  5. Preparations for 2017 Season have started. Captain Stacey Cook has re-signed for 2017, hopefully details of more sign ups soon. Also opportunities for player and match day sponsors for 2017 are available.
  6. SWFL 1 South Title delivered at Kilmarnock this afternoon FC Kilmarnock 2 v 3 MLFC. Second successive promotion for the Ladies. A very early goal, played down the right wing Clare Doherty took it to the bye line put it low in to the box where Suzanne Grant knocked it past the keeper. MLFC had a couple of other chances narrowly missed or knocked off by the referee. Kilmarnock were really up for the game and equalised near the end of the first half. MLFC lined up with some players playing out of position with Dionne Brown moved from left back up to midfield and Nicole Goodwin starting at left back. Sophie G, Amy Bulloch and Laura Smith all started on the bench. Kilmarnock made it a good challenging contest and 1-1 at half time. 2nd half and MLFC had most of the possession with Kilmarnock threatening on the break. A pass through the middle allowed Dibsy (Helen Templeton) passed her marker and bearing straight down on the keeper calm stroked the ball in. Some subs were made and Sophie G came on to partner Grant up front. Picking up the ball middle of the pitch Sophie G took the ball forward and brushed off the challenges from the defender to calm stroke the ball past the keeper. Megan Burns had a shot come back off the post and the Kilmarnock keeper being kept quite busy. Kilmarnock earned a penalty in extra time to make the final score 2-3. Celebrations, Photo's and presentation of League Trophy and medals all followed. Another good year, albeit disappointment in both cup competitions , MLFC now playing in the big league of SWPL 2, 8 teams playing each other 3 times with carrot of promotion to SWPL 1 for the league winning team. Opposition in this league will be fitter, faster and more skilful . With appropriate levels of investment, commitment and organisation I would hope that MLFC could be up there challenging for the title. Well done to coach Mark Kirk, captain Stacey Cook and and all the staff and players.
  7. Update from Latest league table . With no explanatory notes MLFC nows shows 3 points less, and Celtic Academy are plus 3 points. What does this mean. Promotion for MLFC has been gained as teams in 2,3 and 4 places are Development teams i.e with a senior team in SWPL and therefore unable to gain promotion to same league under current rules. The league is still to be won. MLFC 1 game left with 46 points. Celtic Academy 41 points and 2 games left. MLFC have a vast goal difference so Celtic would need to win both games and score about 50 goals to win league. Minimum of a draw would see MLFC win Title away at Kilmarnock. I am quite critical of the SWF as the league table or anywhere on there website there is no explanation. MLFC will have been made aware of this by letter I am sure, but I am not in the know so not 100% sure of the exact circumstances. Will still be there on Sunday hoping to see MLFC gain second consecutive league title. #COYW
  8. 2nd last game of the season away to Rangers Development played at Palace of Arts Bellahouston Park. A goalless first half which was a pretty even contest. Young Rangers were fast and physical and MLFC seemed to have a nervousness about them. Second half was to see MLFC dominate the half and manage to out physical Rangers. Constant danger from very fast Rangers forwards but generally MLFC contained them well. A Suzanne Grant header at the back post gave MLFC the lead. A number of chances followed for Well to seal the game. I think it was a defensive error allowed Rangers to equalise. Scotland U17 Captain Amy Muir, I believe it was, from 5 yards out. Well did miss Stacy Cook out after last weeks red card. Plenty of good performances from Well with the defenders especially , generally coping with the pressure. Midfield bossed the game in the second half. On another day the forwards would have had the normal bag full, but not to be today. SWPL 2 next season will see opposition stronger and more physical than the opposition today so will be a real test for MLFC to strengthen and challenge in the SWPL. Next week will be at Kilmarnock. Final score 1-1
  9. Super 8 - 2 win and promotion to SWPL2 is in the bag First half saw a Megan Burns screamer , a goal from Grant and a red card for Stacey Cook and a few other chances missed against a physical and skilful Colts side. 2 early second half goals from Sophie G settled any nerves. A further 3 goals from Grant and a final screamer from Megan Burns clinched promotion Thought the team played very well, good passing and movement with a desire to win.Congratulations to Mark Kirk and his coaches who have got the Ladies back playing the style of football we were used to. Megan Burns was immense throughout, Suzanne Grant doing what she does best, scoring goals. Sophie G had a great game using her height and strength and staying involved throughout. Nicole Goodwin looked very sharp when she came on. 2 away games to end the season at Rangers Dev and then Kilmarnock. Well done to all on back to back promotions.
  10. Last home match of the season v Cumbernauld Colts Ladies FC Sunday 1300hrs Bothwellhaugh Strathclyde Park.
  11. Another fine away win at Tranent v Hearts 23's 0-13. 1st half goals from Cook,Cook, Grant, Sophie G, Mandy Burns. Both Cook's goals came from corners well taken by Dibsy. 2nd half goals from Dionne Brown, Grant,Dibsy and Grant x 5 including one off her backside from 10 yards out. Standouts for me were Stacey Cook, a captains performance, a joy to watch in midfield. Suzanne Grant is just a terrific goalscorer getting 7 today. Megan Burns and Dionne Brown had great games as well. Some fine football played throughout the whole team, accurate and composed passing. Well done to Mark Kirk for getting the ladies back playing this way. All subs used agin which is good to see and Clare Docherty looking sharper today, won't be long before she gets some goals. Pre match I was looking forward to a League winning game when a Hearts supporter told me that MLFC had been deducted 3 points and fined for a player registration issue. There is a stunning silence coming from the MFC community Trust over all matters concerning the Ladies team. Previously the twitter from MLFC was setting the standard on information and match updates, now, nothing. This will have to change IMO. 3 games remaining in the League with next Sunday at home v Cumbernauld Colts when the League Title and promotion can be gained with a win. Will have to wait and see where and when the game will take place.
  12. No surprise in a 12 - 0 win against Spartans Res, one of the bottom 2 teams in the league. Grant with her first goal in about 30 secs set the tone for the match. That was followed by first half goals from Grant, Sophie G, Grant,Dibsy,Mandy Burns,Sophie G and Grant. Second half goals came from Grant,Laura Smith, an o.g , Dionne Brown. Before this game it looked like the league and Promotion game would be next home game agains Cumbernauld Colts, however a 2-2 draw between Hibs Dev and Celtic changed things. League Title and promotion to SWPL2 can now be achieved with a win at bottom placed Hearts U23 on Sunday. Mark Kirk seems to have the team playing well again and is introducing some younger players in to the first team and demonstrating there is a player Pathway at MLFC. Will still have to bring in a few SWPL quality players to strengthen for the SWPL i would suggest. I am hoping that next and last home game of the season might be at Fir Park. Will have to wait and see on that one.

  14. Ladies had another good win on Sunday at Petershill against Glasgow City Development 1-8. Conditions were very windy and the game was won by half time with a 0-6 lead. First half in particular was an excellent team performance, almost back to the best of the last 2 seasons. It was good to see all subs being used late on and getting a run. As of recent the @MotherwellLFC twitter has been silent so don't expect to see anything re team lineup or any new signings news. I did notice that Clare Docherty ex Celtic came on as a sub so unsure if ehe has signed or still a trialist. 5 League games remaining. Next 2 games are against the bottom 2 sides, home v Spartans Dev and away to Hearts U23's. Promotion to SPFL2 is nearly arithmetically confirmed but the League title is a bit tighter with Hibs Dev 6 points behind, but with one more game played. MLFC Dev lost at home 0 - 1 to Blackburn Utd. Dev team have made good progress in their first season.
  15. Ladies lost 1-2 to Hibs Development today at Sir Matt Busby Bellshill. Still remain top of the league.
  16. For those who were at yesterday;s Scottish Cup game it will not come as a surprise that David Gibson has announced on twitter that he is standing down. It is a shame things did not work out. By all accounts he is a really nice guy. I would assume we will be looking outwith the club for a replacement. There are 2 more games before the summer break so no immediate pressure to recruit, Will we see some former players return ?
  17. Davie Gibson on holiday, arranged before he signed, so i am led to believe.
  18. Pamela Liddell and Toni Mason have both left i believe. McBride,Mcmillan, McInally and Linda Gibson not currently playing for reasons i am not aware of. This has given opportunities for Amy Bulloch, Lauren Bell and keeper Lauren McGregor to get in the team. Colette Fleming picked up an ACL injury and is probably out for the season. Squad remains the same otherwise. Games this season have been a lot closer with some hard fought for wins. Of the opposition teams this season they are well organised, young fit and fast players in general. All with good football skills. Should be a good season and MLFC will be right up there either top or in a promotion spot.Top of the league just now. New manager David Gibson should be well connected in SWPL and SWFL circles so i expect that to help in picking up new players.
  19. Ladies team still to find form and start firing on all cylinders. Their experience is showing through and getting them the wins. Looks like a couple of players have chucked their toys out the pram and left, so looking ahead to next season we should be trying to pick up some players now and strengthening. Have still enjoyed their performances so far this season and good to see the Dev team finding form too.
  20. A good hat trick from Grant. A young and skilful Celtic team managed to stifle lots of Motherwell play. A good start to the season.
  21. There is some league restructuring going to happen for next season. MLFC will move up to SWFL 1. Above that will be SWPL 1 and a new SWPL 2. There will be better opposition and less likely to be any 22 - 0 scores. However if MLFC can retain and improve this current squad then they should be up at the top of the league again vying for another promotion.
