  1. As is well established, we're not the first pick for most players if they're looking for a club to join. So sometimes we gamble on a player that we think has slightly more quality even if they have an issue be it a patchy injury record, a couple of moves that haven't worked out, basically a player whose reputation has taken a knock. But it is a gamble and the club know this. In the last couple of years, with Moult and Obika, the gambles haven't paid off. So do you go for a slightly lower quality player who will always be available..?
  2. I'm assuming he'll move abroad. Having seen what it's done for Ferguson, Hickey and young English talent, he probably should. He probably should have done before moving to Celtic but hindsight is a wonderful thing...
  3. We spoke about this at the game last week. Until a striker or strikers arrive, you have to think that Mugabi as a battering ram will be the option. Although Kettlewell took him off at 1-1 so maybe not...
  4. Not in a system that requires your wing backs bombing up and down the park. O'Donnell on one wing and Halliday on the other, jesus wept..
  5. We'll bring in one in the next couple of days and one on Tuesday when the first one gets injured.. On a serious note, I think one striker isn't really enough. Obika has a hamstring tear so god knows when he'll be back. So it’s Bair and one other?
  6. I'm afraid to ask... How fit is Nicholson?
  7. Do we now recall Ewan Wilson rather than look for another backup left back? Or are O'Donnell and Spittal going to be our backups out there..?
  8. Given he's played for us and Fleetwood this season, he can't play for anyone else. Might take the view he's as well staying here in case his recovery goes quicker than expected and he's available for the playoffs...
  9. Aye. A mate sent me this name yesterday as someone we were going to be signing. When I saw the name, I nearly shit myself... EDIT Although it's worth noting the guy has played zero football since June. Don't expect him to hit the ground running...
  10. It was Butcher that cost us the goal today and elsewhere this season Casey has been no better than Mugabi. Am I saying Mugabi is good enough? No but based on this season, of all our defenders probably only McGinn is good enough...
  11. This is my take as well. Those two combined really well today..
  12. Zdravkovski. Miller and him in tandem could be something to build on..
  13. This is the positive. Chances are there are very similar players in a load of the academies down south. The fact that we've taken a player and he's done well enough to get interest at a higher level will hopefully be a selling point for other teams if we want their players on loan...
  14. Indeed. Just couldn't remember the exact number. Started to feel like 74 games though...
  15. Can't really blame Arsenal. Biereth came here, got injured and then returned to a team on a 74 game run without a win. If they're looking for him to develop, not surprised they bundled him into the back of a van on Airbles Road...
  16. What we'd like and what we realistically know we're going to get in terms of numbers is a different thing. I do not see us bringing in a central defender unless (and this is hugely unlikely) we move one on. With Blaney, Casey and Butcher to come back, it'll be seen as a waste of a wage. Are the central defenders we have good enough? That's a separate question? I can see a midfielder coming in and maybe one forward, pacy or otherwise. We have to remember that Shaw was only brought in because of Biereth and Obika's injuries earlier in the season. The manager seemed happy to go with four strikers at the start of the season. Obika, Shaw, Bair and one other makes four. Again how long Obika stays fit is an entirely different question? Mark Ferrie returns having not played longer than 10 minutes for Stenhousemuir since Halloween. Like yourself, I'd like two forwards but will settle for one that can stay fit and make some kind of impact...
  17. No one is saying they want him to go but reading stuff like 'as long as it's nowhere in Scotland' like he's terrifying to face or that his 14 games for us means that it'll hurt more to see him score against us. I'd like him to stay but won't be devastated if he leaves.. More concerned over the quality of players we're being linked with...
  18. I don't particularly think Biereth is as good as some make out but it does feel like the squad is getting thinner and thinner. If he leaves it will mean that we're two strikers down, a right wing back short and a midfielder down with Slattery's injury. If Andy Halliday is the type of signing we're looking at, Livingston will suddenly fancy their chances of staying up...
  19. I take your point on the availability of players and my feelings on Halliday might be slightly different had he made ten appearances of twenty minutes or so this season. He's made six. All sub appearances. And two of those, he came on in the 89th minute. I'm not asking us to sign other teams' first team regulars. I'm asking us to sign someone who has played some football in the last six months. It's the same reason I was against signing Matt Penney. But talking to people about Halliday, I seem to be in the minority. He'll get my backing if he signs but frankly I'd rather he didn't...
  20. Nope, not having that as an excuse. There must be a suitable midfielder within our budget who has played more than 60 minutes this season....
  21. For those saying Andy Halliday could be a good addition... He's played less than an hour total all season. How match fit is he going to be? If we're only going to sign one midfielder this January, it'd be great if it could be someone who you think you're going to get 90 minutes out of more often than not. If your three first picks are Spittal, Zdravkovski and Paton, the back up is a guy who wasn't getting a game for Kidderminster and a 17 year old coming back from a long injury. Any of the first three get injured for a period, you need a guy who will be able to play evey week.. Halliday? No thanks...
