  1. I watched it in bits, with the sound off and subtitles because I'm at work. My colleague actually noticed my despair and asked me what's up. I shared the video, so we got some American exposure. He thought it was cringe too. I also sent it to my wife just there (also american), she feels so bad for me, you'd think my gran just died. This is St Mirren opening a Celtic shop in their stand levels.
  2. Was interesting that in the interview DW talked about our player recruitment success stats, and how comparable they are to other clubs. We are always going to be more critical of our own recruitment, because we remember all our shite players, but only ever remember the good players from other teams. It's the same as when old firm fans go on about so and so being a good wee player, because they played well in a backs to the wall draw five years ago. Jump on any other fans forum and you'll find all clubs have a bunch of shite signings every year. When the clubs throwing around tens of millions don't have a great strike rate, it's hard to expect the ones fishing down the back of the couch for pennies to do much better.
  3. He was really coming onto a game before he got injured at tynecastle. This has been the story of his career so far, small runs of games broken up by injuries. He has all the physical attributes, but makes too many mistakes on the ball. He will be just fine as a bench player for the rest of our season, in place of one of the 4 weans we currently put on there. And with his much heralded two-footedness, it's like we've just signed two players!
  4. That's definitely a picking which bollock to get booted in scenario.
  5. Disappointing to not hold on for the win, but to only concede 2 goals with that defensive performance was an achievement in itself. I know some of that is down to injuries/suspensions, etc, but we were very shaky. Great that Bair continues to score, sometimes it just takes a purple patch from a striker to get you out of trouble. Then we can sell him to Aberdeen, and he won't score again.
  6. Maguire has minutes for us this season, not so sure about McGinley. Maguire on the bench instead of one of the weans that's never getting on isn't terrible at least.
  7. Say anything you want about the SK regime, but his aptitude for moving players on when they aren't working out is very impressive. He's the reverse Gannon.
  8. Enjoy your new years celebrations everyone, and stay safe. May 2024 be the year of Theo Bair.
  9. Great to get the win. Livi are absolutely woeful and I'm disappointed how hard we made it in the second half, but understandable considering the run we are on. Getting the pish ripped out you by Theo Bair must sting.
  10. I don't know how much it costs to maintain the women's team, but ill take a guess that it doesn't move the needle much as far as the men's team recruitment goes. While we should always be assessing our budgets, I don't think its fair to blindly suggest scrapping the woman's team without any info to back it up. As said above there could be funding implications, as well as engagement benefits and growing the reach of our club. There is also the community aspect of the club that I think this feeds into. I'd hate for us to be the kind of club/fan base that ditches its values at the first sign of adversity.
  11. We kept a clean sheet at a very difficult venue and generated more than enough chances to win the game, most of them coming when we had 1 up front. We weren't perfect, but we were well organized and fought until the final whistle, finishing in the ascendancy. Whether SK is manager in the new year remains to be seen, but blaming him for today's result not being a win is a stretch. Who other teams are bringing in to manage them isn't filling me with confidence that we can find someone better either.
  12. Would a new manager make biereth, Slattery, spittal, and bair all score the one on one's they missed? Whatever mistakes he made previously, it's hard to blame the manager for only getting a point at St Mirren. If we had sacked kettlewell last week and today's game was the first for the new manager, most folk would have been positive.
  13. Good point on paper, but we have to take those chances.
  14. Should be a good 15 mins in the second half then.
  15. Nothing sticking for spittal today. Problem is we don't have other options in there, unless we go 2 up top again. Davor telling the guy to get the fuck up made my heart swell.
  16. The latest WS email has a link to send in questions for the upcoming board meeting, so dust off your typing fingers.
  17. I'd also go with Paton in for Obika. Our best performances were with one striker, and Beireth can handle that. Also, with two wingbacks with actual pace I think it will be more effective.
  18. The society members elected a board to do that. Now, whether they are actually using their position to hold the club to account, I don't know.
  19. I haven't seen much about Spencer at CB, but SOD has filled in there for us before, and will probably be in there for his experience. The last thing we need is to hamstring Spencer another way now that he's on his preferred right side. The lineup above seems the most likely, since it's pretty much all we have. Which ever stiker is most adept at defending from the front should be who gets the nod alongside beireth. We can't have st j strolling up to our 18 yard line like dundee did last week. We're going to get battered with crosses and set plays, so hopefully they don't have any wee guys for us to ignore.
  20. Looking at who other teams have brought in, I'm not excited about our prospects of finding a good replacement. I think this is a year of hoping everyone else finds a way of being worse than us then regrouping in the summer.
  21. I agree that we should manage our expectations due to the financial limitations we are under, however, there's at least one club in our division that brings in less money than us, if not more, and there aren't many in the championship that can compete with us financially. We're definitely there or thereabouts when it comes to the 12 biggest clubs in the country from a financial perspective. That doesn't guarantee anything of course, when you see what has happened to utd, hibs, and hearts. Now, where I think we have a big problem is that we have often relied on things like quality players devoting their careers to us (lasley, hammell), chief executives working for peanuts, and shrewd decisions on managers and signings. The first point is out of our control now with the way the game is, but the decision making at executive level has been killing us for the last few years. I don't think we can afford the kind of chief exec that we all want, especially when we're actively cutting budgets, so we're relying on someone doing us a favor, and that will get old pretty fast.
  22. SK said we'd be looking to bring in one or two in january, which isn't a surprise. Where would you see us adding someone? My assumption is a defender and a midfielder based on our current situation. Ideally a midfielder with some mobility, and a defender that can do what Butcher did last season. I don't think we have any loanees coming back, nor the option to break any of our loans (not that I'd want to). Can't realistically see any outs when we're sticking three kids on the bench each week. Could we lose any of our guys that are in their last year?
  23. Mcginn and Miller are big losses, but we bought a shit ton of strikers and no backup for elsewhere, which is dumb. Fair play to oli shaw today for giving us a glimpse of something. Butcher may well be done, and he definitely is as a midfielder. He does make us more solid when defending set pieces though, which we sorely needed. He needs to be a bench option once we have everyone back. I like Paton if we have 3 other midfielders, he can interact with. He's not very good at giving the ball to strikers. As for the manager, I rarely get to the "sack him" stage, and I'm not there now, but I won't be on here complaining if he's not here on tuesday. I think we can turn our fortunes around with the current management team, because he still has the players fighting for each other, and there is no lack of effort. However, I don't think SK offers anything special that we should be desperate to hold onto him.
