Was he they guy that stopped the ball going behind for a goal kick that cost us a goal and a few points? Can’t remember the game or circumstances just a guy doing something an under 10 would know better not to do.

Yup that was him. There was about 10 mins to go when he did it and Ross County beat us 1-0.

I'd like to think we stick to our guns regarding the money we're looking for even if it means he stays with us until the next transfer window. I said it earlier in the thread, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does a Faddy and starts the season well and gets sold in August.

Don’t necessarily disagree with you but I realised today the English transfer window shuts early this year for some reason, 5pm on Thursday 8th August. So he won’t have too many leagues games (if any?) before then. 6 goals and a couple of assists in the Betfred should do it though!

The only pish, is the pish you're spouting. No need to do anything at this time. They certainly haven't maximised any return on our most sellable asset, they've accepted the first offer that's come along, how that can be construed as "maximising our return", is beyond me. Wait and see what pans out with other potential buyers, then you are maximising our return.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m gutted we’ve accepted an offer from them but your post is nonsense. We quite publicy rejected two offers last week - Barnsley and Celtic - and the announcent tonight says we’ve ‘rejected  several 7-figure offers in recent weeks’, so we’ve clearly not accepted the first offer that’s come along.

    Roll call for Belfast?

We should all try and meet at the same pub before the game

That’s me and 2 mates booked up for the Linfield game. Quite looking forward to a wee trip across the water.

  5. Maybe I should have been more clear, I meant QOTS/Berwick would be the good away days rather than EK.

I fancy Airdrie or EK we that would give us a local tie against a rival or team we have never faced. Wonder if Darren O’Dea would play if we drew EK!

  6. I think I’m right in saying as top seeds we will be at home to the 2nd seeds so that rules out away days to Ayr, Morton, Patrick and 1 other depending on where they draw the north/south divide.

For the unseeded teams QOTS, Berwick and Airdrie/East Kilbride would be decent with potential for a good day out.

  7. For me, Robinson has done an excellent job.

I think it’s easy to forget he’s a young and relatively inexperienced manager himself so will still be learning and developing but in his 2.5 years with us he has; saved us from relegation, taken us to 7th and both cup finals, and now an 8th placed finish with our highest points total since McCall’s tenure. That’s the on the pitch stuff, off the pitch he has dealt with our transfer to fan ownership, reducing budgets and brought in serious cash for Kipre, Hastie  others to follow.

He identified that the first half of last season was a shambles and managed to instil an entirely different style and philosophy on the squad in the space of 4-6 weeks which has taken us to the 3rd best points total in 2019 and seen the emergence of one of the best ever we’ve seen in years, who’s transfer will likely see the club becoming debt free.

    Sign him up Burrows!

Could maybe try On the Continent for the European stuff. I listen to that too and enjoy that.  Main show is on a Wednesday and they have the Mailbag that goes out on a Saturday.  Both usually feature James Horncastle and Andy Brassell.

Speaking of Brassell he's started a pod called At the Match which is a really good listen too.  He pitches up at a game across Europe and a good bit of is simply recordings of the crowd to give you a feel for the atmosphere with interviews with supporters or people knowledgeable on the clubs featured.  A couple recently included Sporting v Benfica and Bayern Munich v Dortmund.

On the Continent is fantastic. The depth of knowledge that James Horncastle and Andy Brassell have is frightening, and they’re both excellent at putting it across in a really enjoyable way, it’s not dry at all. Jonathan Wilson is on this weeks show, who I don’t like as much, seems a bit of a weirdo.

I’ve given At The Match a couple of go’s now and just can’t get into it. Not sure what it is. To be fair it’s only the first two episodes I listened to so maybe it’s improved.

I’d think by that point, he’d be considering chucking it, presumably footballers have some sort of insurance against career ending injuries?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s correct. I remember reading an interview with Craig Gordon where he talked about this. After his years of injury problems he had to make a decision between calling it a day and securing a big pay out or taking the contract at Celtic and foregoing any large payout if he broke down again with the same (knee?) injury. Obviously it’s worked out in his case but must be a tough decision for a player to make.

Aye, 9 goals in 23 starts was all hype. If we're going to continue down the road of playing passing football, the Craig Tanner of last season would be an asset.

Whether we get the Craig Tanner of last season back is different question. But unlike you, if the coaching and medical staff feel it's a possibility, I'd be willing to give him a chance...

I think there was 8 assists to go with those 9 goals as well. If it wasn’t for injury he’d definitely have finished our top scorer last season. He’d be a useful player for the current system so here’s hoping he can recapture some of that ‘hype’ when for again.

A few food points made on the merits of keeping Robinson, however this one in particular I'm not so sure about.

We've got a steady core home support of between probably 3400 - 4000 depending on how we are doing. We had 2900 odd home fans last night.

I don't know the financial impact if that remained consistent, but the board must take that drop into consideration with everything else.

As a few other have said, a mid-week game in freezing conditions with the added fact its the week before pay day in January which has likely been a 5-week month for most folk if they were paid early before Christmas.

If we have less than 3,500 at our next few home games then it’s a valid point and certainly something the board should take into consideration. Was this season not the highest ST sales for a good few years too though (could be wrong) ?

Stephen Robinson was asked to get us a run in the cups. He's reached two finals. (You can talk all you want about how losing 2 finals isn't an achievement, but he wasn't asked to WIN cups, he was asked to get a run in cups, and he achieved that, therefore in the tick-box exercise that is a company performance review, it's an achievement).

He was asked to bring in money through player sales. Club has brought in more money under him than any other manager (I think).

He was asked to keep us clear of a relegation battle. We are comfortably clear of a relegation battle.

He was asked to do it all within a very restricted budget. He has done that.

He was asked to promote youth into the first team. He has done that.

In the form table over the last 5 games, we're 6th.

In the form table over the last 10 games, we're 6th.

In the form table over the last 15 games, we're....yup, you guessed it... 6th.

Now, you can debate opinion on how much you enjoy the games, how you feel we're doing, who you think should play, how you think we should set up.... until the cows come home, I have mine, everyone else has theirs, and they are probably all variations of a theme. However, the club look at the things on the list, a return on their remit. It's objective and it's fact based.

Putting aside what you "think" or "feel" for a moment. Could we as a club get a manager that would exceed what's on that list above? Are the club going to want to get rid of someone that's exceeded everything in the remit that they put in front of him? What has he not delivered on that would make the club consider his position?

Sorry if you're not happy, but it doesn't matter what you or I think. It's not about opinions. Stephen Robinson is currently in the middle of being an extremely successful Motherwell manager relative to what the club have asked of him, and that's what his employment status is based on. The idea that they would even be considering punting him is a massive LOL.

Couldn’t have put it any better. Absolutely spot on. If anyone thinks Robinson is getting binned any time soon, they will be sorely disappointed. Particularly as if Las goes as well it’ll be Aileen Anderson taking the team until a replacement is found!

Hes doing everything asked of him by the board, whether you or I like the style he’s doing it in doesn’t really come in to it until fans start to leave in their droves of which there’s no evidence of.

The County game and the post match interview were a car crash, no doubt, bu from his recent interviews and signings he’s clearly aware he needs to change it. Having been set up to play a certain way (and been fairly successful at it) for the last 2 years, it might take a bit longer than a couple of training sessions in Tenerife for it to work.
