  1. I was agreeing with your point, not contradicting it.... Not that I think there's any chance of them touching the job, but guys like Owen Coyle, Billy Davies and George Burley all fit the criteria outlined and used to wear the claret and amber...
  2. There are also a number of folk out there who have all of those qualities and Motherwell in their past... The two things don't have to be mutually exclusive.
  3. Not sure that's an accurate summary to be honest! From what I've read most of the folk that were vociferous about McCall going were not Gannon fans.... Personally, I liked Gannon and didn't want McCall to go. Lastly, the thought of Kenny Black getting the job doesn't inspire me but if he does get the job then he should be given a clean slate and judged on whatever results his team were to produce.
  4. Despite ruling himself out Gary McAllister has shortened to 4/1 with McBookie - can't link at work but they tweeted this morning. Seems to have been caused by a run of money going on him rather than any chance of him taking the job I'd say....
  5. Anyway, if we appoint a manager who can take us forward and maintain our top flight status then he'll be the right man. Regardless of which team he played for in the past, whether he's employed by the club just now or hasn't done too well elsewhere - it's what he does once appointed that he should be judged on and nothing else.
  6. A manager leaving 2 men up front in a game he was behind in? Try and win the game by staying attacking, or make no attempt to score a goal that would get his team back in it? Your attempts to shoehorn situations to fit your anti-McCall agenda has gone long past boring now... He's gone, you and your boo boys won, you can stop making up "facts" to suit your agenda now.
  7. So you are actually accusing him of match fixing? You really do take grudges to a whole new level....
  8. That is an astounding accusation, although coming from you perhaps not quite so.... You are basically accusing McCall of sending a team out to lose heavily, and the team carrying out his wishes? Match fixing then... Even for you that is a new level of baseless nonsense.
  9. Can we add Vigours to that list?
  10. And the folk in the stands who have the mindset that every single player is shite is really helping as well....
  11. While I'm not advocating a return for Tommy McLean at the moment, reading his book he doesn't seem to be so far out of touch as you'd imagine.... Seems to have kept himself up to date with the game and some of his ideas were quite progressive.
  12. The "I'll take a poor league campaign in return for a cup run" brigade seem to be falling by the wayside. There were several people making that statement at the start of the season so surely they should be giving McCall until the Scottish Cup capitulation that they are all expecting.... For me, I think he's better than he's given credit for. He's delivered consistently high league finishes so he must have something to offer. However, the team look devoid of any fight or desire just now and if you credit McCall for instilling this in previous seasons then you have to criticise him for this lacking now. By the same token, several people feel that the league finishes were in spite of him, so the current malaise can't all be his fault then.... Listening to some of the support on Saturday, I think the only thing that is going to appease them is McCall's departure. The frustration of the fans is being taken out on the players which I don't think is helping. Thirty seconds into the game on Saturday and the guy behind me had ripped into Vigurs for a lack of effort... 30 seconds! By ten minutes he'd ripped into Lasley, Sutton, Ramsden, Twardzik, Francis-Angol and Leitch - all within earshot of the players. Who is that helping? 30 seconds gone, and in fact I'd touched the ball more than half the team courtesy of Francis-Angol's slice and Vigurs is getting told to "get yer fuckin' finger out". Madness. My gut feeling is that McCall will be relieved of his duties dur to growing fan pressure, but it may be a case of not knowing what you have until it's gone....
  13. Dan was going tonto at the defence a few times on Saturday, he's telling them where he wants them - they just seem to not end up there!
  14. Someone showing optimism How dare they!! 3-1 Motherwell Dan Reid O'Brien McManus Hammell Ainsworth Lasley Leitch Vigurs Sutton Ojamaa
  15. Derek Weir I'd imagine... I'm told he has taken on some of Leann's more executive duties.
  16. I apologise to 'Flow if this is incorrect, but I don't think his role has any direct influence on the playing side of the club or indeed the management team. The inference in a couple of these posts seems to be that he should be sacking McCall or questioning his performance - I'm not sure that's his call!
  17. And those losses would be much worse if the players and manager hadn't delivered league finishes like they have.... If you think that the only reason that the club are making losses is the cup performances then you need to think again....
  18. They should maybe employ the manager and the players that get the second place in the league consistently - I'm assuming those guys are completely different to the ones that do the cup aye? Christ. imagine how much of a fortune they are losing through their sheer inpetitude in the league.... Cup performances are poor, but it seems that folk are placing a hell of a lot more stock on one off games as opposed to a league placing which involves 38 games when deciding whether a manager or players are any good.
  19. You'd give paracetamol a headache.... The league finishes are the bread and butter of the club and he has consistently delivered on that front. Calling for his head if the team lose to a team sitting higher than them in the league at present is bordering on lunacy. Add in the fact that many have pointed to Accies having an advantage of playing on that surface almost daily and it's even more harsh. Wait and see how the game pans out before declaring a state of emergency eh?
  20. Don't like Friday night football much, and don't agree with the same club being given 3 in such a short period - but these changes have actually allowed me to see 2 games I couldn't have gone to on the Saturday, so it's ironically worked out better for me.
  21. Your powers of premonition are quite extraordinary.
  22. We had a manager who took that approach with the media, and he was dismissed as a nut job. He'd make a point about referees and nobody would take any notice, Tony Mowbray made the same point and the press were all over it.... We don't get enough coverage to have a campaign like that. As for needing young players playing good football...it's not quite as easy as just putting youngsters on a park and saying "play nice football". Our fans don't have the patience to deal with the mistakes for a start. A significant number are straight on the back of players no matter how well they have played or otherwise at any sign of an error. We have Twardzik, Kerr, Francis-Angol, Ferguson, Leitch, Carswell, Erwin all around the squad and starting eleven and every single one of them has been singled out for abuse online and at the game at some point already this season. If we want to blood youth, then we have to accept that the performances might not be the best for a period. One of the best seasons was arguably the season we avoided relegation due to Falkirk's stadium issues. We had a team of young players who were given time by the fans and they may have finished bottom - but they were much better for the experience the following seasons.
  23. The club are stuck in a vicious circle here I think. No matter how successful or otherwise the team were, crowds didn't really vary that much. Now crowds seem to have dwindled as the product on the park has declined. This is in no way a criticism of anyone who chooses not to go to the games - simply an observation as I see it. I would never criticise someone for prioritising their money and football not being top of the list. That said, I think the club need larger crowds to allow them to invest in the squad a bit more. While a number of fans it seems need the club to invest in some players which would improve the product on the park. Not sure what the answer is, but if the club need/decide to blood youngsters to make up the squad then the fans need to show some patience. At the same time, the players need to up the performance level to show the fans that they are worth the patience. Worrying times just now, but it's still early in the season. Plenty of time to turn it around.
