  1. I never met Wullie,  but I vividly remember the match against Flamengo in 1960 I think.  Incredibly, we won 9-2 and Wullie was the right back up against the Brazilian world class left winger.  Each time the Brazilian approached, he jinked right, left and back to right again.  Wullie, still reacting to the first jink, caught him every time.

Yeh I was with him. I'm his mate and was with him all night. Lets just put it down to over zealous bouncin and we'll leave it at that.

Thank you for the first-hand account. I'm glad no non-combatants were involved and that a bouncer, like some stewards at matches, went too far.

  3. "pisspots"

    "noisy and obnoxious"

    "300 'Well fans"

"take it to the San Giro or the Greyskulls Arena"

I don't think Motherwell needs your crap ill informed patter and your holier than thou approach.

I don't remember anybody rolling about on the floor, maybe I was too blotto but.

And I'm pretty sure nobody wet themselves as there was 80 odd guys on that bus, and had somebody peed their pants, they'd never be allowed to forget it.

I thank you for repeating some of my main points, but:

    YOU said people were wetting their pants;

    YOU admit you were blotto;

    YOU and our pals' behaviour resulted in the Club having to issue an apology;

YOU won't be missed if you decide to take your poison elsewhere.

I was at the match and I had a drink before the game which is why I was able to comment in an informed way regarding The Mallard. As it says on the tin, you and your mates were a disgrace.

  4. I'd have been more disgraceful had the 80 odd "drunken idiots" hadn't turned up. Barely anybody there in our end other than these pesky trouble makers. Comparisons to the Bradford fire are so wide of the mark its unreal.

Some people on here should stick to wetting the bed.

I had hoped this thread was dying and I wouldn't have to respond to your post. However, there were more than 300 'Well fans in the stadium and the drunks numbered about 20. Many of the pisspots didn't make it all the way to Victoria Park and that's a plus. Maybe it was you or one of your pals who was on the floor of The Mallard pissed out of his mind an hour before kick-off and maybe it was he or you who wet himself. Most of his/your noisy and obnoxious mates who weren't sitting down in the pub could barely stand up. If that's how you want to behave, take it to the San Giro or the Greyskulls Arena. I don't think we need your "atmosphere".

    Your thoughts and votes please....

Poor performance all round except for Randolph. We need Faddy to start before we can make any sort of judgement. Was right midfield an experiment? All the RC player against him wanted to do was to take a "superstar" out of the game by mainly foul means. Is that what he'll face every game?

  6. 1361642280[/url]' post='374951']

I like smoke bombs, think they add to the atmosphere.

Was not there so don't know the circumstances in which they were let off, but if what you say is correct, there is no need to be throwing them at stewards.

If it did happen though, is there any chance the stewards were being c**ts beforehand?

No. The stewards were fine. I'm ashamed to say a section of our support behaved very badly. This wasn't about atmosphere. It was about drunken idiots.

I'm gutted with the date and time for the Well Society meeting as I'm working until half 2. GUTTED GUTTED GUTTED. I really wanted to be there too but I'm sure there will be a good analysis provided on here.

Sorry about that NWF. It's bad for you but good for me. I had to stay overnight at the Moorings after the last meeting because of the difficulty of coming back over the Southern Uplands late at night. Give us all your views. Those who agree will be very happy to take them forward.

  8. I don't suppose you're aware of the Al Jolson song, "The Spaniard who Blighted My Life". Good tune and contains the memorable line, "Ill stick a bunion on his Spanish onion if I catch him bending tonight. Ole!"

  9. The Scottish red top papers think they are the only worthwhile pundits to give their opinions on Scottish football.

They like to think of themselves as journalists when about 90% of them couldn't spell the word without a Thesaurus.

If only they would stick to reporting what actually happens in games rather than giving their own crap opinions to pander to whichever side of the OF is flavour of the month that day.

Can any of you remember back to the Saturday Red ( Evening Times ) and Saturday Green ( Evening Citizen ) which people used to wait the delivery of on a Saturday night so they could read the reports of the afternoon games ??

No punditry then only somebody writing down what had actually happened at a game.

Of course people get their sports news on TV nowadays but can't help but think it was better in the old days. At least we didn't have to read clowns like Keevins and Traynor spouting pish.

    Mon the Dossers.

Here's a quotation from a 1937 Hollywood movie called "Nothing Sacred":

"I'll tell you briefly what I think of newspapermen. The hand of God, reaching down into the mire, couldn't elevate one of them to the depths of degradation."

Nothing much has changed in 75 years then.

  10. If deposits were being taken at any stage then it SHOULD have been announced.

What email did you send to mate?

It was the europe@motherwell e-mail address given in the official announcement of the charter and I gave details exactly as requested.

  11. club charter sold out!

Mibbees. I registered interest last Saturday. I'm now told I'm on the reserve list. I would have paid up front or at least posted a non-refundable deposit. Most people on the flight apparently booked even before the draw. I suspect that there will be a mass cancellation due to the budgie being sick or granny no too weel on Wednesday next if we get slaughtered in the first leg. Some way to run a business.

  12. Before the start of any season, my first hope is that we avoid relegation and I think we can do that, but only after a bit of a battle with the likes of Inverness, Ross County and possibly St.Mirren. I say it every year as some are only too glad to point out but I do expect a struggle in the SPL for us this season as the small squad, combined with financial cut backs will mean that we will be unable to strengthen the squad. As for the Cup competitions, the Champions League will be a great experience for us and I only hope we give a good account of ourselves, while I fully expect us to do nothing in either of the domestic cups with early exits in both.

I predict that we will finish 11th.

Try taking into account that all of the SPL clubs will face financial cutbacks, that we are in European competitions, that all will have smaller squads and that we are the best run club in the SPL. Still think 11th? C'mon the 'Well :woop:

  13. Really grateful you started this thread Brazilian. I thought about saying something similar. The current crisis now comes down to two issues - Sky and the SFA. Regards the latter, Scottish football will only regain respect and decorum once it becomes governed by an autonomous body, completely impartial to all clubs. Scotland requires one single authority, an organisation that governs using clear policies and regulations, and manages a risk strategy for all eventualities.

Regards Sky, having seen the power the fans have had over influencing the votes of their clubs' chairmen, I think the same could apply to Sky. If thee was an organised boycott (subscription cancellation) by thousands, that could lead to a significant loss of earnings for Sky.

    Power to the people.

Sadly, this might have the opposite effect. Hard-nosed Sky Sport executives would see Scottish subscriber numbers fall. They would interpret this as being due to Rangers not being in the SPL. Whether because of your protest or because of disaffected rangers fans would not matter to them. The TV rights would simply be worth less in their view.

  14. I'm genuinely interested to know what exactly the club have done wrong recently.

I was very vocal in slating the club for the statement they put out and I still maintain, whether deliberately not it, it stunk of 'yes' propaganda.

But I just obviously don't see what other people are seeing when it comes to the guidelines they've produced. Either that or I've been sent the wrong stuff.

The facts and figures for what will happen financially if a newco is allowed in the SPL are quite obviously provided with more certainty - that's just logical. The facts and figures for what will happen financially without a newco are quite obviously provided with less certainty - that's also just logical.

Obviously anyone who has read the stuff also knows that the media's claim that the club have said a no vote will result in administration is utter nonsense.

Therefore, I'm really struggling to see what the club are doing wrong here. The documentation makes grim reading in general, whether there's a newco or not. But nothing there seems to me to be weighted in favour of one side or scaremongering. It seems an honest-as-possible collection of the facts and figures that can be provided to the fans.

I've voted 'no'. The Well Society will vote 'no'. The club will vote 'no'.

Then we'll need to work hard to get past whatever financial obstacles are in the future - whether the SPL votes 'yes' or 'no' as a whole.

But I just don't for a second see where this anger at the club has come from, at least regarding the Well Society vote.

I agree with all of that, especially about the craven media reports. The Board have done the best they could to be fair and honest. Compate that with the conduct of Rangers over the past dozen years. My "NO" vote was posted yesterday morning.

  15. I guess the BBC either read here or got a copy of the letter Clicky bit

MFC tries to lay out the situation as it is (mind you they left out the Scottish Cup and the League Cup parts of the equation and the certainty that we would end up one place above what we might otherwise have expected in the SPL next season) and the media (sorry BBC, since I have not seen the other reports) take, totally out of context, a possible downside to the demise of the duopoly and a chance for merit to break through. Might there be some Ugly Sisters in their midst?

  16. it was reduced entry and the final day of the season. i'd say our support was about the same as at the reduced entry hibs games.

why will a one horse race be any more appealing than a two horse race?

there's not going to be a greater chance of european football as we are about to slide down to 4 places rather than 5.

bigotry is not the dominant factor in scottish football.

You do not concede that there were more than 600 Arabs at the last mach of the season. OK, but you must be blind.

We'll have a better chance of finishing second or better and the Celtic will have their cosy dominance with their "oldest" (nothing of the sort) rivals cut to shreds with the 11-1 rule abolished.

Bigotry? It's your McEnroe moment - "You cannot be serious."
