Feck me! Straight into group stages if we can win our first game and lose second! what a moneyspinner that could be

I'm normally quite optimistic, but being realistic, we should be hoping for a winnable game in the Europa league play off round, as we will have probably lose our 1st champions league game.

I think a few of us don't want a Champions League game to be a daytrip excursion in the middle of a sedate family holiday!

Get the wife and kids packed off to Butlins and go by plane, train and taxi to wherever the 'Well are playing with the lads!

Fernebahce are banned from the champions league next season and dropped their appeal this week so no chance we will be getting them!

As far as I can see it was this season's competition they were banned for and, as match fixing charges have been dropped, are in contention for next season's. From Bloomberg's website:

Fenerbahce would also be eligible to compete next season in the UEFA Champions League,Europe's top competition, if it qualifies and UEFA doesn't object. The Turkish federation barred the club from competing this season after the match-fixing probe was announced. In April, Fenerbahce dropped a case it filed against UEFA, Europe's soccer authority, and the federation seeking 45 million euros ($59 million) in compensation.

Reason for four teams for Chelsea and five for Bayern, steelboy?

If Chelsea win then 4th in England won't qualify for the Champions League. This leaves 2 spots (winner from third and 4th in England) in the Playoff Round. This will be taken by Portugal and Russia from Third Qualification.

If Bayern Win, then as Bayern have already qualified for the Group Stages for the Champions League as Runner Up in Germany this leaves a Champions Path open for the Groups Stages. I believe Belgium is one of the Nations that will benefit here.

From Wiki

If Bayern Munich win

-The champion of association 13 (Belgium) are promoted from the third qualifying round to the group stage.

-The champion of association 16 (Switzerland) are promoted from the second qualifying round to the third qualifying round.

-The champions of associations 48 (Malta) and 49 (Northern Ireland) are promoted from the first qualifying round to the second qualifying round.

If Chelsea win

-Because of the restriction that no association can have more than four teams playing in the Champions League, the fourth-placed team of the 2011–12 Premier League, which would have entered in the 2012–13 Champions League play-off round, will be moved to the 2012–13 UEFA

Europa League.

Moreover:

The third-placed team of association 6 (Portugal) and the runners-up of association 7 (Russia) are promoted from the third qualifying round to the play-off round.
