Why would you force anyone to sign a contract ? We are looking for some stability and one year contracts dont do that do they Not long ago the club was being slated for sort term contractsHand shakes dont work in football only signed contracts

The club signed up Hateley, Randolph and Humphrey on three year deals, Law and Higdon on two years.

What's short term about that?

Difficult task for the club. You want some stability but in doing that you may end up having to keep players who turn out to be non performers. Hopefully the Manager/board can keep that to a minimum. AT the moment i would mabe only classify Daly as having fallen into that category.

However, even by giving the likes of Law etc 2 year contracts it gives us some continuity but no chance to sell them and make money. So perhaps ( easier said than done ) we need to develop a signing strategy that

1. Provides continuity: Manage contract lengths such that you limit the number that are up at the same time.

2. Enables us to get some decent time out of good players but still enough time left on contract that other teams would have to buy them if they wanted them. Of course, we are completely at the mercy of who has enough cash to buy players but at least if we don't sell them we get to keep them for longer.

But, stating the obvious, any contract strategy relies heavily on the ability of the manager and board to "predict" what players will be good for motherwell and able to maintain or improve their performance level. Not the easiest of tasks.

The task being made even more difficult by the fact that they have to also align these contracts with projected budgets. I don't envy them the task

Someone said on twitter that wolves have released Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and he is on his way up to Scotland to speak to McCall.

That's what a few of the wolves fans were saying.

Built like a brick sh**house and has other things in common with Higgy :whistling:

In 2008 Ebanks-Blake was charged with causing actual bodily harm to a doorman in an incident at a Plymouth nightclub on 11 November 2007 while a Plymouth Argyle player.[42] He was subsequently fined £1,350 with £650 costs and £500 compensation by Plymouth Crown Court on 4 July 2008, after admitting to having attacked the doorman with his girlfriend's handbag causing a three-inch cut to his head

Sylvan Ebanks Blake? Seriously?

We can't afford to keep Michael Higdon but we're going to sign someone who scored 14 goals in the Championship last season? He'll have a long list of suitors down South who can pay him more in a week than we can in a month. Fantasy stuff.

No shot. Surely. He must've been on about 2/3 times what we can offer?

That's true, but how many managers has he worked under at Celtic? None of them saw fit ( ) to give him a good run in the 1st team for a reason. I don't think all of them were blind to his abilities, were they? There must be a reason why he didn't get a crack?

McCourt doesn't have core fitness, tremendously skilled but can't get 90 minute fit without breaking down. A luxury we couldn't afford.

Kind of getting the impression from Twitter that today is pretty significant in terms of the futures of the U20 team.

Couple of tweets for example:

Nicky Devlin:

Last 2 years @MotherwellFC have been an absolute pleasure! Worked with some of the best in the business too! Been great since day1 #thankyou

Josh Watt:

thank you again to everyone at @MotherwellFC looking forward to a new challenge!!

Have we made it official yet who's being released?

I thought Adam Asghar was pretty highly rated? I hope we bring in 3 or 4 guys for the 20s team cause having a squad of 17 year old kids getting pumped every week wont exactly bring positive development
