I have to say Owen Coyle would be a good choice he does have extensive knowledge of English lower leagues and his enthusiasm would be what type of manager we'd be looking for. Having said that im still hopefull McCall stays.

But right now he is earning 0p

I never understand that statement. Just because they were earning mega buck doesn't mean the will continue to want that wage.

Suppose it depends how much he raked in and if he's now ready to return to the game. If he's now skint then yes, I agree. If he's sitting with £5mill in his bank then is he going to come and fanny about in the SPL for £100k per year??

Hutch on McCall speculation.

From Evening Times

Hutch: Don't do a Blades runner boss

Motherwell defender Shaun Hutchinson is hoping that the Fir Park club pull out all the stops to try to keep Stuart McCall as club manager.

McCall has cut short a break in Spain to enter into discussions with Sheffield United, a club where he spent five years of his playing and coaching career.

The Blades have made McCall their No.1 target, and although Motherwell are keen to persuade him to stay, chief executive Leeann Dempster has insisted no-one will stand in McCall's way should he be tempted elsewhere.

Hutchinson has enjoyed arguably the best season of his career this year and would love to see the Fir Park boss remain at the club.

"It is one of those things that if you are successful then of course people are going to take notice," he said.

"But, from a selfish point of view, we would love to see him stay here at Motherwell because I think his record speaks for itself.

"We have just had a fantastic season, we have the chance to play European football again this summer – and when I first arrived here at the club I don't think I would ever really have imagined that. It speaks volumes for how well he has done that we have that to look forward to.

"But as players we know how football works. It is the same for all of us, and we just have to wait and see what happens."

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson and former Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate have also been linked with the Blades job, but McCall appears to be attracting the most attention from the Yorkshire club.

Hutchinson is one of the few players who are settled at Fir Park this season, with a string of his colleagues all set to leave.

Nicky Law and Darren Randolph have played their final games for Motherwell, while James McFadden, Tom Hateley and Chris Humphrey are all out of contract and expected to go elsewhere.

Hutchinson still has a year remaining on his current deal and the Newcastle-born defender is happy to see it out.

"I have managed to play over 100 games now for Motherwell, which has been great," he said.

"I feel as though I have improved as a player and I just want to keep that going."

Better Together?

Sooner we are rid of that kind of twattery the better for Scotland.

Keep the head on haggis, is not like some folk up here never say similar things?

I see nothing offensive in whats been said so far, just a bit of banter - not like the hate filled bile we get between certain groups of scots.

Agreed.

Let's vote yes because of what some people say on a football forum  .

I've read plenty of roasters on Scottish forums that make not want me to be left alone with them.

If McCall does leave, how would people feel about Paul Sturrock? Relatively successful career down south & massive experience & contacts from down there, plus used to working with shoestring budgets

Probably ticks all the boxes in terms of the managerial "profile" our board have used recently...

The board of Directors have been pretty good in selecting the last few managers who have, despite a few personal lapses from the managers themselves, been good for the club. I will trust the same directors to keep this trend going and will pick the right man for the job.

I for one have faith in our board as I believe they have done a sterling job in the last few years despite some barracking on here from some. Keep up the good work in difficult financial times. Although it's crucial to have the right manager I think it is just as important to have the right directors steering the club in these troubled days and they have acquitted themselves well.

Too Irish for you aye?

If you say so Eddie, and absolutely nothing to do with the unsavoury comments he allegedly made about the Club and a former Manager. :whistling:

Now, you want me to change my signature to say Special aka - Great Grandson of an Irish immigrant, or does that not make me Irish enough for you ?
