More than okay, got taxis to Lancaster, obviously missed ours but got next one. The guard escorted us into First Class to keep us together then I asked for his next trick could he stop at Motherwell, he duly obliged cos there were about 50 of us all heading into Glasgow unnecessarily. Can't ask for better service than that. And we got to use the fridge for our beers Go Virgin Trains

Better experience than those who made the 6.15 train to Motherwell. They had cancelled half the carriages and train was full of students coming back from Ibiza. Most had to stand all the way to Carlisle at which point they came on the tannoy to ask for the singing to stop as children were intimidated. Transport police came on and then 3 empty carriages were added to the front and Well fans moved to them. Great day out though with great atmosphere in neat little stadium.

If ever there was an argument for a return to standing and beer at the football here in Scotland, yesterday in Morecambe was just that.

It's a great argument for friendlies in Morecambe. Unfortunately, I think there are still too many roasters in the SP(F)L fan base who would quickly remind us why it was banned in the first place.

Roasters? - Thats a polite way to describe the Celtic fans who behaved with such distinction yesterday.

I take your point, but won't said roasters just get tanked up before hand? Not sure what if any damage a pre match or half time pint would do.

Not least clubs can cash in at £4 a pint.

For regular punters it wouldn't do any harm at all. Our track record in Scotland, however, shows that there is a sufficiently large minority of roasters that make drinking at the match unworkable. The rules that are in place now came about after years of neddish behaviour on the terraces, a lot of which was due to the booze.

I'm not against alcohol at games in general - I used to enjoy a half time pint when I lived down south and frequented Portman Road. I'd like to think we have moved on since the days of beer cans full of pish flying overhead and vomit on the steps, but I'm not convinced.

Well, only allow it any 'low threat' games (which coincidently would annoy every fan of the 'big' teams so it's a win-win). There were SPL games at Fir Park with no police presence. Let the Ross County and Caley fans, who've travelled for hours, a pint during the game. It might even encourage roasters to behave - they get rewared with the ability to buy a pint.

Anyway - a baltic cauld December game, the last thing I want is a cold beer - unless we fit TV screens in the toilets..

Virgin's customer service when things go a bit wrong is excellent.

So far this year I was on a train that was delayed because of the snow in January, one of my work colleagues was also on that train who was heading for an early flight the next day at Stansted and because it got in after the tube and connections had stopped running, they laid on a taxi for her no questions asked.7

Also the night we played Hibs and Faddy and Higginbotham scored there was a huge problem at Bridgeton and Virgin volunteered to stop a train at Motherwell to let folks get home.

I went in the car yesterday because it was my dad's birthday last night and needed back.

Thought Gadi was all right, could see cult hero through him as clearly a hard worker, not scared to take a man on but he did throw in some crosses that were south of poor. Silva looked a little less match sharp but as the 2nd half wore on I thought he looked the better option. Very intelligent cut back to Vigurs and very alert to what was going on around him. I think Anier is one of these guys who is decent but would frustrate the arse of you because he will throw in some easy misses. Can see why McCall is a bit unsure on him but he is certainly got potential.

The past couple of years we've played the odd friendly against the likes of Alfreton Town, where you can not only buy a pint in the ground but take it back in to the terrace and watch the match while supping.

Unfortunately, as previously pointed out the minority of morons stop this from happening at "real" games. I remember my first ever visit to Fir Park, and I asked them which beers they were serving, cue the confused looks :D

I think beer at games in Scotland will have to be explored at some point but to be honest I don't think we will see it at scottish grounds for a long time. Drinking beer at a preseason friendly and spl games is worlds apart. If you could restrict the amount of alcohol served to an individual then it might work. If you could buy a maximum of two beer tokens on entry to the ground then this would go some way to solving this.I think we will just have to rely on European games and friendliest in England for the time being.

I don't see what the big deal is about tbh. We made it into the ground just on kickoff yesterday, means all our drinking was done at the pub before hand. This will be the same with everyone else. I can't imagine many folk turning up to the ground much earlier than what they normally do to "get on it". There's no danger you would be able to blame thuggish and neddy behaviour at the football due to what would be a few pints at the most when realistically you've already done the bulk of your drinking before the game.

Bring it back, was refreshing to get a beer at half time yesterday!

Got a Transpennine train on Saturday from Manchester to Lancaster, it's destination was Edinburgh. It was absolutely mobbed, crowded all through the train and not helped by two people with bikes, neither of which folded down, taking up half the bloody carriage. As we left Piccadilly the train manager advised is that there was a problem further south and trains were delayed through Crewe so everyone had taken this train which was already fully booked. I had booked a seat but couldn't even get on the carriage where my seat was and ended up standing all the way to Lancaster. After the game on the train back from Lancaster to Preston we were informed that the air con wasn't working so I sweated all the way to Preston. At Preston the train for Manchester arrived and I jumped on and sat down, 5 minutes later a staff member hopped on board and said we had to get off and go to the front of the train as these three carriages were not going any further. Needless to say all those carriages were full and the one carriage I managed to squeeze onto was First Class and again I stood all the way to Manchester. I was bloody shattered by the time I got home. What with the walk to and from the ground and standing on trains all day I was fecked by the time I reached home.

I was on 9 trains over the course of the weekend, and only 1 was incident free -- Motherwell to Glas Central. Should have been on 10 but the effin invisible 17:55 from Morecambe to Lancaster was fully booked :whistling:

However, as stated by many others ---- that was a great day out, and a HUGE well done to the young lads, 90mins of non-stop singing. :notworthy: Spoke with a few locals afterwards one of whom said he met an Aberdeen fan on holiday who said Motherwell might not have the most but certainly have the best fans in the league.......yet he was still hugely impressed with the vocal support and atmosphere created by the bois. They also intimated a wee trip to Motherwell may be n the cards this season - easier than a trip to Yeovil or Torquay right enough.

I thought the atmosphere was terrific I was behind the goals and it's the first time I've been in amongst that kind of crowd since they built the East Stand.

Certainly brought back a few memories, fair play to the lads involved but they certainly worked hard at building the atmosphere.

What with the drum, the flares, the big fucking popper, the bloke with the blow up guitar, and the guy with the horses head, it was carnival stuff right enough.

Have absolutely no recollection of ever being in Morecambe other than getting a photo at the statue on the beachfront. Para.

Give us more pre-season friendlies like that every year. It isn't half a warm up for the all day shot, Inverness/Aberdeen aways!

funnily enough when i enquired about antics at morecambe it was the two of you who were mentioned.

sounds like a good time was had by all.
