Motherwell Vs St Mirren 09/08/14

Positives: Thought Kerr, after an iffy first 15 minutes, had a good game in his actual position. I'd keep him in the team, if only so McCall can't bring him off the bench to play right midfield.

Negatives: Only one. If we insist on playing two in centre midfield against a team playing three in there, we're just inviting pressure. Those critical of Lasley and Carswell need to bear in mind that they were outnumbered.

Kerr was fine defending when he was behind his man but his positional sense was all over the place. As you said he had a very ropey first 15 minutes but we were an absolute shambles at the beginning of the second half when St. Mirren really should have scored at least 2 goals.

If you ever thought that Hutchinson was prone to come rushing out from the back to make a tackle 40 yards out then Kerr was doing the same thing and getting caught time and time again by a St. Mirren forward that was one of the fattest players I've seen since we played Llanelli!

Our back line if often indisciplined but yesterday it was even worse due to Angol being more or less immobile and Kerr and Reid being if anything too mobile. There was so many holes all over the place and against a better team we would have been severely punished. In fact we should have been severely punished yesterday because St. Mirren had at least 4 chances they really should have scored. We have Dundee Utd midweek and I guarantee you they would absolutely love to play against our defence from yesterday.

You are right to point out the midfield issue though.

United will watch a video of that yesterday and be over the moon. Easy 3 points and a few goals for them if we give the same performance as yesterday.

If they wath the BBCalba 60 minutes they'll get nothing

went from the most comprehensive coverage to jerky, erratic and quite clearly rushed editing

I can't be arsed reading all this shite. We had five definite starters missing and three guys playing with knocks, not to mention McManus who could be forgiven for his head not being in the game and we still picked up maximum points and kept a clean sheet. A big dose of "Shut the fuck up" is required for a few folk on here.

Can't really add much more than what the vast majority have posted.

Great 3 points considering the injuries we had coupled with several experienced and capable players being well below par. Really important to get off to a good start regardless of how it was acieved.

The crowd (or lack of) is very concening. Only 3,500 Motherwell fans?!?! Yes Iceland debacle was hugely disappointing but where is everyone?!?! Dundee had 7,500 at their game!!!

We've never, ever, had a big support and we never will the old firm draw most people in the Motherwell area. I actually fear for the future of the so called provincial clubs. Naebody really wants us, it seems the game is all about big teams getting bigger and richer.

It's the last week before the schools go back so maybe that had an effect on the crowd but really its not good enough, our core support seems to be in serious decline.

If there are people not coming because they are in the huff over Albion Rovers or the European matches they need to realise they are putting the club in an even bigger financial hole than it already is.

Yeah but there was probably 1,000 supporters that came to the Stjarnan match that didn't show up against St. Mirren.

What's up with McManus?

Regarding crowds, it is a tricky time of year with holidays etc, and after Stjarnan, there was probably an apathy that took the edge off the 1st game excitement.

It could be worse, look at accies! They had 1600 at their 1st game back in the top flight.

Dundee and utd don't have the same OF drain as they're much further from Glasgow.

Did McCall not say the ref took advice from the linesman about Goodwin regarding an off-the-ball incident, rather than being related to the foul?

Yes weeyin the linesman was just in front of where I sit and was talking to the ref
