The Stewarding/policing Thread

What's the deal with the stewarding in the East Stand at the Cove Rangers game.

There must have been over 20 if them implementing the "new" requirement to stand back 1 meter from the crash barrier.

I got asked to move multiple times and stand behind the "yellow" line, I even got asked to stand behind the line by this little jobs worth when I was standing behind the line.

He kept saying I am asking you nicely, your "fellow" supporters are complaining, I asked who?

We have had 5 complaints about a child being burned by a hot drink at the Hamilton game.

So I pointed out to the little chap, who obviously had wee man syndrome, that I did not have a drink on me hot or otherwise.

One of his cohorts also came out with the same rubbish.

So what's the score with this?

If I was standing in the space where my seat is and I had a hot drink and I spilled it on the kid in front of me how exactly is that different?

Not much chance of getting a hot drink anyway as the service in the East Stand is slower than a week in the jail.

Sounds like you didn't understand the request to stand behind the yellow line. Maybe you were confused by the paint on the stairs.

We received the same warning a handful of times. We were given a couple of different reasons:

- Someone had complained at the Accies match after arguing with someone standing behind them.

- People in the back row were complaining because people were dropping bits of pie/drinks on them.

Think there might have been another.

I am going to bet that it lasts about 2 matches.

Being asked to move or having stuff dropped on you?

Both reasons given above seem like valid complaints from people sitting in the back row. If you're asked not to stand there then move on to somewhere else where you can stand - I don't see the issue here.

I'very had the same group of blowhards standing behind my back row seat, talking the same pish for years. Sadly I also socialise with them...

The thing is, the guys behind me have tickets for seats round about us so they're not hanging over the top of random strangers. If you want to stand behind the railings, get a back row seat or find mates that have one that won't mind you standing there. Oh, and don't drop yer pie/bovril on anyone...

I'm one of the "Utter, Utter Bawbags" apparently that complained about the standing behind the back row of seats after the Hamilton game so thought I should share the reasons why.

At the game there were 2 guys standing behind our seats and they'd certainly had a few pre-game. If you sit in the back row (and I've had my season ticket there for the last 15ish years) and there are people leaning on the rail then they are actually leaning right over the top of your head. After about half an hour they appeared back with Bovril that they were balancing on the rail. I'm not being soft but I don't want a cup of boiling water to suddenly fall on my head (and the head of my 8 year old cousin sitting next to me). I very politely asked them to step back a bit until they had finished their drinks and was met with a volley of obscenities, multiple threats to do me/stick the head in me. I asked the steward to move them but he said that standing was tolerated in some parts of the ground and that he couldn't move them. I sat back down at which point the guy spat on me. He was eventually ejected from the ground but it was a pretty unpleasant experience and completely unnecessary.

There are I suppose a few issues.

I definitely don't think that people should be able to stand there with drinks but how do you police that vs. people standing there with no drinks

AS far as I am aware the area behind the seats is not a standing area. Standing is "allowed" at the South Stand end of the East Stand so if you want to stand to watch the game is that not the place to do it?

There are, unfortunately no shortage of seats and Fir Park is an all seater stadium so why do people not want to take their seats

This only seems to have become an isue in the last season or so when the police were replaced by stewards. The police always seemed to enforce the no standing in the passageway behind the seats when the game is in progress.

I certainly wouldn't want to put people off coming to Fir Park but there have to be certain rules in place to safeguard everyones wellbeing when in the ground. If someone does get injured/hurt due to the no standing rule not being enforced the club would, I imagine, be in a pretty poor legal position.

not that you really should have to explain yourself but your reasoning behind the complaint was entirely valid mate. Stand in the back row of seats but no real need to stand in what is a concourse leaning over a stranger with Bovril etc.

I wonder tho,if it had been a couple of 16 year olds instead of aggressive drunk men, would they have been left to stand? I think we all know the reaction of the yellow jaicketed shitebags in that situation

Il tell you one thing tho,I admire your control. If Id have been in that situation, the cunt who spat would have woken up in Wishaw General, fucking vile.

That's the sort of incident that I was assuming behind this. Unfortunately there are some people in life, and particularly at the football, who don't seem to be able to act like normal human beings and who ruin things for everyone else. People who think they can always do what they want and that anyone who asks in a reasonable manner for something else is fair game for abuse. I've seen it plenty of times at the football and always wonder how they survive normal life without being arrested on a regular basis.

Feel a bit sorry for the club here as they were damned whatever they did. They have tried to implement a solution so as to prevent the issue highlighted and not to upset the people who have stood there for years without causing offence, harm or injury to anyone.

I absolutely stand by my comments. If someone abuses a fellow fan, spits on them or whatever it may be, then they should be papped out. However, to suggest that some drunkard spitting on you should lead to season ticket holders who have stood in the same spot without incident for a number of years being forced behind a yellow line is absolutely ridiculous.

And, while it couldn't possibly be enforced as a rule, I'd suggest that in a stand with the layout of the East, anyone in the back couple of rows should observe the etiquette of either standing up or at the very least not complaining when others do.

If you're looking to encourage people back to Fir Park, running to the club demanding action against innocent punters to the detriment of their matchday experience is not the way to go about it.
