Aye good luck to Baraclough, should have brought on Carson for the penalties mind you.

Also the nations league is such a nonsense when you get things like this happening.

Is that how they qualified for the semi?

If I remember rightly it was a combination of teams who won their Nations League groups along with (I think) runners up in the Euro 2020 Qualifiers.

In a few cases teams qualified via both routes and they then worked their way down to see who the next best team was and repeated the process until the play-off spots were filled.

Officially,

Quote

There will be play-offs for each of Leagues A, B, C and D. Each group winner earns a spot in the semi-finals. If the group winner is already one of the 20 qualified teams, rankings will be used to give the play-off spot to another team of that league. If fewer than four teams in the entire league remain unqualified, play-off spots for that league are given to teams of the next lower league.

But for the current  season.

Quote

After the completion of the first season, UEFA decided to adjust the format of the Nations League starting from the 2020–21 season. The new league structure comprises 16 teams in Leagues A, B and C and seven teams in League D.

The transition to the newer 2020-21 format, occurred by making various one-time changes after the 2018-19 season, namely the suspension of relegations (of the bottom-placed teams) in both League A and League B, promoting the two best teams per group in both League C and League D (instead of only one team per group), and promoting the best third-placed team from League D.

Which brings us to partial World Cup qualification.

Quote

The Nations League will be partially linked with European qualification for the FIFA World Cup, although to a lesser degree than is done for the UEFA European Championship qualifying play-offs. The first round of the World Cup qualification consists of ten groups. The winner of each group will directly qualify for the World Cup. Then, the second round (which follows a play-off format) will be contested by the ten group runners-up, plus the best two Nations League group winners, based on the Nations League overall ranking, that finished outside the top two of their qualifying group. The play-offs will be split into three play-off paths, played in two single-match knockout rounds (semi-finals and finals, with the home teams to be drawn), from which an additional three teams will also qualify

TL;DR

Scotland won't qualify.

Mark McGhee has joined German-based agency WSM Marketing & Management where he will be involved in recruitment of players and managers while also advising the careers of clients.

Is that where he was going to get us that big defender he promised us during his first stint?  He was pretty adamant his German contacts would see us all right.

Who was our last German player? Dirk Lehmann?

Semih Aydilek or Dan Twardzik (but he was born in Czechoslovakia)

Danny Johnson Scores yet again tonight, but unfortunately on the losing side.

He was a bit unlucky with his scoring streak. After the team being let out of isolation not long before the Cheltenham game last week he had the ball in the back of the net there too, but it was ruled offside.

He always seemed to be more of a confidence striker than a grinder. Good to see it working out for him.

Was Lehman before or after Sengewald?

Pretty sure they were both there at the same time. Sengewald's only highlight was the win against Celtic and that was the same season we beat Rangers and Lehmann definitely played that night...

They are at it again.

It's always interesting to see players we bring through that can't quite make the step up to Premiership standard, but do well in the Championship.

If someone could figure out exactly what it is that differentiates those players, they'd make a fortunate as a coach or scout.

If we get B teams into the league we would be high Championship

I know highlights were brief for Sengewald but he also had De Vries of Hearts who was enjoying a fine season in his back pocket in the 6-1 game.
