Stephen Robinson urges Motherwell to ditch passing game and get the ball in the box

No more passing. Bigi back to mascot status. 9 months of booting it to Sammon to look forward to.

Sammon is cup tied. The article states Bowman and Main likely to return. Also, in usual Record style the headline has only a passing resemblance to the actual quotes made.

Don’t see either Bigi being dropped or Sammon starting for the next 9 months.

I just listened to Robinson's interview - "passing resemblance" is being generous.

Not that I'd expect anything less from that publication.

As far as I can tell its:

1986-87 Celtic Lost

1990-91 Morton Won

1995-96 Clydebank Won

1996-97 Alloa Lost

1997-98 Inverness Won

1999-2000 Raith Rovers Won

2003-04 Forfar Lost

2011-12 Hibs Lost

2014-15 Hamilton Lost

2018-19 Stranraer Lost

I see Moult took the recent Motherwell penalty curse to Preston. He scored is pen tonight, but they lost the shootout.

Ha ha.

Some people have taken against me and kick out at virtually anything I say, even when if you isolated what exactly I said, they would actually agree with me.

But hey, that's the fun of the fo

About 1000 sold for tomorrow - decent enough!

Fuck it - going full of optimism because we are cup specialists. I think we'll put in a good show.

I'm all for a bit of optimism, but if not winning a cup for nearly 30 years makes us specialists, I'm sure glad we're not frequent underperformers...

If you read the interview it's clear he wants to get back to the high ball style from last season. We did well with that in the cups but mainly because we luckily benefited from some terrible goalkeeping errors and Derek McInnes being clueless.

The thought that we are struggling due to a lack of players who can create chances in the final third doesn't seem to have crossed his mind.

It looks like we have a fair few players out tonight, this could be a good barometer of how well the squad player signing policy has went. By my count Rodriguez, Main, Donnelly, Hartley and Andy Rose are all fitness doubts. Sammon also can't play as he is on loan from Hearts.

Granted not all of these boys are first team starters but it certainly tests our strength in depth in a couple of positions. If everyone above doesn't make it I'd revert to our normal shape with something like the below. I really just hope we don't totally change the system (due to injury) to something the players aren't comfortable with.

Carson

Aldred McHugh Maguire

Cadden Campbell Bigi Grimshaw Tait

Bowman Johnson

I didn't see Turnbull on Saturday but on the face of it I wouldn't be adverse to seeing a midfield of Campbell, Bigi and Turnbull. It sounds like it could be decent but with the manager calling for 'more high baws' I don't think we're ever likely to see it.

I understand what Robbo is saying and to a degree the headline has misrepresented him somewhat. The notion however that we have been playing any sort of free flowing football and 'the media should be giving us more credit' is nonsense. Bigi playing the ball side to side isn't my idea of total fitbaw. The worry I have about these tactics versus Hearts is this will be their bread and butter. Playing the long ball against a Craig Levein team is never going to be an easy way to victory.

Going along in hope more than expectation tonight but it's the cup so you never know with this team. If you are on the fence about going along get yourself through to Edinburgh and let's get behind the boys.

What he said was he wants us to put balls into areas teams dont like to defend. That could be high balls. But it could also be balls in behind, down channels or cross balls. All of which we were pretty good at last season when everyone was fit. He never said we would stop trying to pass or keep possession so the headline is false and continues to play to the agenda that we are nothing more than a team of cluggers. Our squad has its shortcomings and limitations no doubt and you might agree with that assessment. However, imho, I think we have been and can be a bit more than that.

I see Las has hinted that Main has been carrying niggling injuries since the start of the season which together with choice of striking partners might explain his form.

Hopefully he will make it tonight and be paired with Bowman, who for me has been the best foil for him since he arrived.

Given the way the game is likely to be played tonight, Johnson from the bench could be a good option to have later in the game.

Hopefully some more of the injury doubts will make it as well. Need as close to our first 11 as possible to have any chance tonight.

Ach, the more accurate   'Specialists in decent cup runs as of last season' doesn't quite roll off the tongue the same way.

Good number. Should be decent atmosphere. Looking forward to it.

Hope we are not talking about another ref decision or unlucky break. If Hearts win and comfortably I can take that more that a 1-0 defeat where we were on the wrong end (yet again) of a sh1t decision.

Sums Robinson up hoof football is his only style buys players to fit in that system Ancell Babes or Robinsons Wasters you choose

That style as you put it took us to 2 National finals last year, so if we had won either 1 or both of them I assume me you would not have celebrated , you really are beyond belief , it's boring now.
