Motherwell vs Aberdeen *Game Postponed*

The talk is that with Euro 2020 being suspended they might try and finish those tournaments in June.

Finishing leagues looks extremely unlikely so we can expect a full Celtic meltdown and Accies survive again. Dundee United will be screwed as well which is nice.

Tonight's game could genuinely be the decider for 3rd then.

Aye, that'll be it. No discussion or advice sought from medical professionals, eh? Just start the meeting, stick on Sky Sports News, see the English have cancelled and follow suit.

And the rest of the Europe. Common sense applied for once by our Authorities. Sensible to play safe.  Time for you to wake up to reality.

Sturgeon said yesterday that games aren't unsafe at all.

Buchanan Galleries, Silverburn, Braehead, every supermarket, every gym, every school, every work place all open. But 5000 people in the open air at Fir Park is far more dangerous. It's nonsense.

Well, why don't you get on the phone to the major sporting leagues around the world that have all cancelled or postponed their seasons? The event organisers taking hits worth hundreds of thousands to cancel open air concerts and suchlike? Tell them all to just continue as normal, because despite what the medical professionals say, it's just a nonsense.

I know you're the resident fuckwit, but take a day off, eh? Away and "self-isolate" for a few weeks, will you?

If you had common sense you'd realise everything else that comes with it. Crowds travelling on public transport, crowds pre-drinking in pubs. It's not all about the actual open air match. Not to mention the police and health care professionals that have to attend that will be much more useful elsewhere. Engage your brain.

As I said I don't see how it's safe to open Ikea - as an example - but not Fir Park. Football matches are drop in the ocean in terms of total contacts.

Pubs are still open!

Trains and buses were full this morning and will be again on Monday.

Do you need healthcare professionals on every bus?

Italy, Spain, Germany, England and now Scottish football custodians. You are doing it wrong, you need to listen to a walloper on the internets.......

What’s the thoughts if the season was to stop soon? Would we just get third .....Unprecedented ..... This might need another thread ....

Requires a vote: if the league is cancelled should we be awarded third place (bearing in mind there may not be any European competitions until current ones are completed) or all results null and void therefore denying Shellick.?

Add France.

Euro 2020 as well, possibly, as it's going to prove difficult to get the qualifiers completed.

Golf, NBA, Racket and Ball, MLB - all suspended.

But horse-racing at Cheltenham goes ahead! Does not compute.

I also fear that this may be the death-knell for many Scottish clubs - those that would love to have 500+ at a game and have no regular income outside of paying punters.

Struggling to see why last night at Ibrox was safer than Fir Park tonight.

Agreed, this could be catastrophic for Scottish football :(

They have obviously called it off due to fears about public perception rather than the actual risk factor involved.

60 confirmed cases in Scotland with an upper estimate of 1000. The chances of coming into contact with it at Fir Park tonight (or even Ibrox on Sunday) would be miniscule.

I agree there is certainly a lot of "theatre" about all of this. There doesn't seem to be any coherent plan here; just some cancellation of random events while letting others carry on as normal.

I have no doubt Covid-19 will be spreading over the next few weeks, but if governments had been serious about stopping it becoming a pandemic they needed, by all expert accounts, to have taken action quite a few weeks ago.

I suspect we are creating a financial crisis with no real benefit to the health of the general population.

At the end of the day, the footballing authorities don't have much choice other than to proceed as advised by the government and the medical professionals.

If, God forbid, someone tested positive for this thing after being at a football games over the weekend there'd be uproar as to why the footballing bigwigs went against advice from government and medical experts.

There's no god forbid. 70% of people will get it this year it doesn't matter where from. You can't beat this kind of virus.

The government didn't advise them to put it off either.

I think the pace at which this thing is moving answers your point to a degree. It was only late yesterday that the US shut down all major Sport, including at Sawgrass where they were trying to complete the Players Championship with no spectators. Why did they let the golf start? Same as at Ibrox. It seemed adviseable at the time. But the situation changed.

Add to that recent announcements from around Europe covering most sports and today the news that numerous players and coaches from the EPL are infected.  I think our lot were left with little alternative but to use common sense,  do an about turn and postpone with immediate effect. It is only surprising that it took so long and that Sturgeon was waiting until Monday to implement any action. In hindsight I suspect she wishes she had not opted to delay until Monday. But events and circumstances have overtaken that decision in any event. I have no idea why Cheltenham races are still on and why the rugby in Cardiff is going ahead (aspecially as all PRO 14 Rugby is suspended).

Whether cancelling events will halt the spread to any great extent is debatable but freeing up emergency services is a valid point. Common sense has been applied and if the decision contributes in any way to coping with the outbreak then it's justified.
