Got to love this site....or not.

We sign a new player that is relatively unknown.  Immediately he is uninspiring or just plain sh1te.

We get a decent left back on an extended contract. Underwhelming...has done nothing to impress me.

F*ck me. I am glad I don’t come on this site to be cheered up. There is a high % of posters that are just miserable all the time.

Time for a sabbatical from this site. I cannot say I will miss it.

Probably best if you take a sabbatical cos social media is there for all opinions to be expressed.

It's all about opinions,  yes you get a lot of negativity but a lot is just honest opinions.   I have said I will give Smith a chance,  as for Carroll you have said he is decent, i have said he is ok but i dont get the fuss about him, again all about opinions which if aired in a proper manner make this forum a good read....COYW....

very few tbh. McFadden the first time he came back was probably about as exciting as it got but with players like McManus you knew you were getting some sort of pedigree. However, I have made on secret on here that I largely disagree with the signing policy at the club.

Where do you think our market should be then if not the lower leagues in England and Scotland? And what sort of pedigree inspires you?

McManus? Gash. I bet you like me were excited when Ross McCormack came back!

I agree to some degree, I'd like us to sign more league players that have done it at this level. Lawless suits me fine. Polworth was fine as well, despite his recent off form as someone regarded well in D1. Gallacher was very good for Livingston and was pleased when he signed....but I can't understand in the same breath Lamie and White. Both not regarded by their Scottish clubs. English is hit or miss. Hope Alexander makes decisions here rather than our scout.

we did go through a spell of bringing in some excellent signings. Likes of  Randolph, Ruddy, McManus, Mcfadden , McDonald all felt like strong calibre players.

Equally I remember Sutton and Higdon being written off as uninspiring  - if Smith can follow in their footsteps , rather than some of the more recent signings we'll be doing well

He will. He will have the final say (unless detailed contract discussions go badly wrong). He will tell the scouts the positions he wants to fill and the type of player he wants to fill them.

With the best will in the world, a loanee from Northampton is hardly going to encourage 250 people to put their hand In their pocket and get a ppv pass.

What market do you suggest we should be in...non league english teams can pay more than us .....

The situation we are in, an online game is one of the highlights of the week, so you cant talk for other supporters.

Also, it's January. If you have a reliable striker that's scoring goals you aren't going to loan him out to us (or anyone else). The only players that are available are ones that are - for whatever reason - needing games to get them back on track.

Happy with Carrol signing on. Solid player with the right attitude. Much better than McGinley and Lamie at LB and generally one of our better fullbacks over recent years.

Are people here forgetting about how dire players like Danny Murphy, Yassin Moutoaokil, Tony Straker, Aaron Taylor Sinclair and Stephen Hendrie were?

Carroll has already made us more solid at the back. Him signing is great news.

We will have to see how Harry Smith fits in but the talk of Cole and Watt being first pick for the rest of the season is crazy. We haven't scored two goals in a game since October so we need something different up top.

If the next two games go against us I would hope the board decide to make a serious move in the transfer market. With the current group of players we could easily be relegated and not trying to improve the squad risks going out with a whimper. The support were let down badly in the summer which was surely down to complacency after finishing third. There are no excuses now and if we finish 11th or 12th it will be down to sheer negligence.

Pretty much agree with that. If something doesn't work and you continue doing it, why would you expect a different outcome? Smith would appear to offer us something different up front, but its essential he and the other strikers receive decent service both in the form of crosses and pacy support. With the exception of the out of favour Jordan  White, the other strikers all need to feed off a main striker. Although slightly different in style, they are fairly similar in many respects.

Our strikers would benefit from decent service I think...

I think Lawless will make a difference with better deliveries. Always gave us problems when he played for Livi.

Harry Smith doesn’t look prolific, but you never know a new challenge may just  be what the big guy needs to put himself in the shop window.
