Not trying to justify Longs performance but he is a centre forward not a winger and has made it clear he does not want to play there

There is a player there and if we play him at all it’s got to be through the middle with someone up alongside him

So let’s get 4 in the middle of the park and 2 up top and forget about wingers as we don’t have any ( also stop trying to convert strikers into a wingers )

I wasn't able to tune in yesterday so missed the play by play. BUT this is quite a simple game really. The manager  and many on here are going on about the chalked off goal and how that might have changed the game. Surely it's simply that neither the players nor the manager understood that that was just how that incident played out and we just had to keep WORKING away rather than being downhearted. Even if that goal had been allowed Hibs still scored three without reply. It seems we didn't dig down deeper than they did, so we need not keep on about the referee, even if he got that one decision absolutely wrong. The two keys for any team are motivation (the manager's job) and commitment (the players job), and clearly neither showed up yesterday.

McGinley is shocking on all three goals.

First one he barely gets off the ground when he should be heading the ball out to the wing. Second he is tracking Doidge then runs away from him before he scores. Third  he loses the ball then just jogs back. Anyone who thinks he is going to be a better centre half than a left back is in for a disappointment. Get rid along with Mugabi and Lamie.

Far more to it than that - see comments above. To add my tuppence worth. Goal 1: The Hibs player on our right flank is completely uncovered and is allowed to send over his cross unimpeded. The ball should never have reached its target.  No-one covers Boyle. Goal 2: There is no midfield cover on the edge of our box and no-one is covering Doidge on the edge of our box.  Goal 3: No-one covers McGinn's run from midfield. What is O'Hara doing? McGinley makes a mess of it agreed.

There are question marks over a number of players, not just McGinley.  Our defensive midfield is very poor just now and teams can run unimpeded into our box at will.  Looking back to the St Johnstone game a week ago, we had to work damned hard to get anywhere near their penalty box.

We have been badly hit by injuries to defensive players and thats had a huge impact, but we need to drop Mugabi as he's causing problems for others. O'Hara is not doing his job in shielding the defence and Allan Campbell whilst putting in a power of work, needs to be more defensively aware. Revert to 4-4-2 for next week, dropping a striker and Mugabi, and bringing in Maguire and another midfielder. For whatever reason we seem to be completely disorganised at the back when decent teams attack us.  Not sure why? Is it because players are not playing to instructions or that they aren't being coached or the system is wrong?

There probably wasnt a great deal between the teams until first goal but Boyle is a very good player and his pace troubles most teams. He wasnt a big buy by Hibs and wasnt going anywhere at previous club( Dundee?)

It's just finding those one or two nuggets that can make all the difference in this league.

Agreed that there wasn’t much between the teams until the 1st goal but Boyle didn’t even have to use his pace against us as there’s was no one near him half the time and he had all the space in the world on the left flank which is a common denominator in most of our games these days.

Hibs changed their shape and we didn’t (or couldn’t) respond and paid the price not for the first time this season

Watched highlights for first time last night. Although the panellists on sportsecene made reference to it , they didn't replay the disallowed goal during the analysis.

I think it merited a few replays, if only to embarrass the ref, theres borderline decisions and just plain wrong, that's the latter.

Anyway Hibs would probably have won but you need these things to fir you.

Also did the Hibs player get booked for the lunge at Odonnell,  if he had connected , that shouldve been a red.

Noticed St J  players at that too, rather than try and match players run, just taking the boy clean out, bit galling when a player can get booked for a mistimed tackle.

I think we need more bookings in Scotland. Every game you watch now if it's the last 20 minutes and there is a sniff of a dangerous attack the defending teams just fouls. It makes for a shite spectacle.

Yep.  This is the first squad in years that I can recall having absolutely nothing on the wings.

Robinson has pinned all his hopes on Seedorf and Hastie. Seedorf has been with us 18 months and while he's only 22, we cant wait for him to come good when we need someone in now. Hastie was always a punt and it's just not worked.

To think he got rid of Ainsworth and Frear. Both frustrating, particularly Frear but you were at least guaranteed assists. Just now we've got nothing.

Just watched the highlights, I couldn't watch on Saturday. Looks like we dominated the first half and had our fair share of chances (Watt with two chances and Campbell inexplicably shooting from 25 yards instead of sliding in Long). Really poor 2nd half, McGinley's had a bit of a shocker there.

I don't know that he did, although the referee certainly saw it. If you cast your mind back a few weeks Barry Maguire was carded for a very similar foul.  Again this just goes to illustrate the level of inconsistency in referees.

Naw it just goes to show that Dallas is a shite referee and should not be allowed anywhere near this grade of football
