The Green Green Grass Of Home

Discussed at some length at our table at the Burns Supper on Friday night - good night by the way. Several people with connections to the club, commented that the option presented to MFC by the 'experts' was considerably more, in cost, than had been expected and the company were advised to trim back the quote. Although the drainage and USH were to the initial recommended spec - the substructure and re-seed of the park was the area that was 'trimmed' - at that time the club were informed that given the reduced specification to the substructure that it was inevitable that the pitch would be seriously damaged over the course of the winter and would require a complete overhaul.

Although not straight from the horse's mouth,those in attendance have connections within the club and while I will not divulge the source, I certainly have no reason to doubt their validity. Might just explain the reason why the pitch is in such a state now. Also as an aside - funny how our groundsman friend hasn't posted in a while? Given his enthusiasm to post during the construction period, I would have thought this was an ideal opportunity to share his knowledge with us.

Onthefringes - care to comment? You seem to have a better grasp than most on here of the industry and what was required/carried out close season.

I think we need to ask what happened, when we had all the snow, and what advice we got, to protect it during this time. They said the pitch would be bad the first winter, but were we expected to have to relay the penalty box's or create a patchwork quilt elsewhere

Someone from the club has to speak out, Have we got any Groundsmen working on it though the week, I think they should be holding their head in shame, what an embarrassment again.

Fucking. Move. Stadium. Now.

I think that is about the best option as every couple of months we are going to be forking out money to repair the pitch where as if we can get a new stadium we there hopefully will be no other problems.Would like a stadium like St Mirrens.Wee,neat park.

Agree, but please not like St Mirrens, feckin awful example of a new stadium design.

he's probably been told not to comment by 'Flow or Leeann... don't blame them.

Agree with that as I don't think it his place to represent the club on here, regardless of the role he carries out. This is one for Leeann only as it is a financial situation. The club are quick to run a series of updates on the official site with regards to the extensive work carried out between May- August last year. Who can blame them after the press of last year. If it is positive scream it from the rooftops, if it is negative ignore it and hope it will go away. That just won't work and will highly irritate.

I'm not sure how they address it to be honest, or communicate what is done next/why it is SO bad......but with Rangers visiting in three days, I think they might need to come out with some postive spin/damage limitation comments sooner rather than later.

Am I alone in thinking an official communication from the club regarding the pitch is long overdue ?

Week in week out the focus is on the state of the park rather than the results it is hindering the teams ability to play good football and makes it easy for teams to nulify technical players like O Brien.

A full and frank explanation please , is this the result of penny pinching in the summer ?

If so was the saving so significant that it outweighs the costs involved in all the remedial work being carried out now and quite probably for the foreseeable future ?

What is the solution , is it simply a case of it will sort itself out after the season ends ?

Plenty of questions being asked but a deafening silence in reply ?

I agree there. No flat pack Mecanno set please. Big Pie's design (I think Malf's artwork..) will be on this thread soon enough :lol: And it is the future.

Although apparently the club have been looking into Scandanvian stadium designs... -_-

Indeed. I think if it were the case that we'd have any chance of blaming the company, the club would have lead straight off with the information about having "problems" with the company who installed it or something to try and deflect the negative PR their way.

Wasn't our pitch "built by specialist sports turf contractor Greentech"? And if so, shouldn't we be sueing their arses...?

Was Greentech that did the below pitches too.

* Aberdeen Football Club

* Hampden Park

* Inverness Caley Thisle F.C

* Motherwell Football Club

* Murrayfield Stadium

* Rangers F.C Murray Park

The pitch is an absolute disgrace, end of. There nothing remotely as bad in the SPL and Broon's comments after the match were cringeworthy!!

Everyone who paid money to watch that garbage on Saturday (myself included) was utterly bumped and the pitch was the root cause (pun intended). Fair enough, the Accies went out looking to kill the game and escape with a point and my mate made a good point at half time when he said "this mob could make Barcelona look shite".

Time for the club to brief everyone on what the hell is going on and if I hear the term "microclimate" one more time I'm gonna flip. It's absolute bollocks.

Sort it out Motherwell!!!!!!! :lol:

I don't know what the answer is with all this and I've no idea whether we have the necessary expertise on board at Fir Park or not. I know the weather was grim and that we were worned that there would be bare patches in the winter.

To me it looks like there's been BIG mistakes made in the way that we've attempted to keep the pitch playable and in where we've trained and the stuff about having tractors on the park as the only way to feed it way back in the thread (or elsewhere) is just baffling. (having tractors on the park full stop)

I think there are other heavy pitches around that are cutting up badly - however ours appears to be far worse. It looks like our entire pitch is dead. The other parks that are cutting up have far more substance to them than ours. Our looks 'powdery' underfoot - like the 'Horse of the Year Show' that used to be on telly.

I can't help thinking that leaving the USH on during the two weeks or so ice age over the the new year damaged the grass beyond repair.

I remember seeing a picture on here of the smoke beltching out the USH chimney during that period and thinking to myself what a waste of money and energy.

After the huge cost of laying the park from seed the new turf patching of the surface will surely have a detrementle effect for future seasons.
