Jay 1,028 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 My favourite Craigan memory was 'Well fans turning up at the Caledonian Stadium shortly after Norn Iron had beaten England 1-0 - I seem to remember he was warming up, and the 'Well fans were giving him shouts about having the likes of Rooney in his back pocket. I can almost remember him slapping his back pocket in response, but I may have made that up - it was Inverness away so I was absolutely mortal. Still, that's my favourite memory! As for tonight, hopefully a decent crowd turns up. I'm giving the Leeds game a miss on Saturday as I need pennies for Wickerman and I'm simply not interested in a meaningless friendly at Fir Park, but tonight being Craggo's testimonial adds a little bit of incentive to go along and I'll be leaving for Motherwell shortly. numpty 454 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Craggs scores a pen after 3 minutes! "1-0 Well. Crags takes it and coolly strokes the ball into the bottom right hand corner with the keeper going the right way."

Dosser_fae_the_shire 11 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Just back as the wee yin was shattered so we left at half time. Reckon there were about 2500 there. Decent first half. Law, Murphy and Hammell linking well. Should have been more than 1 up (it was a stonewall penalty we scored from).
Welldaft Mk1 602 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Glad the game went well. Just over 2000 is not great but considering it was a) midweek b) during holiday season and c) against a 1st Div team - probably as much as were expected. Could not make the game because of work comittments but looking very much forward to the Leeds game. Despite Jay mentioning for Nth time it is meaningless etc etc never seen leeds play and they are reasonably high profile. On a Saturday with hopefully a good away crowd. The atmosphere and the Scottish v English backdrop always make these games a bit tasty.
Ya Bezzer! 1,797 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Half paced, not a lot of contact, typical friendly fare. First time I've seen Nicky Law and my first impression is he's going to be a big player for this season. We'll see how he does against better opposition in a competitive match but I was quite impressed with him tonight. Didn't show blistering pace or anything but definitely has good feet and a football brain. Steven Lawless did quite well in the short period he was on. Looked a bit gallus which I like in a young player. One last thing, I said a wee while back when we were missing all our penalties that Craigan, as the Captain, should be taking them - there's your proof! Now bring on Leeds Utd and can't wait for the new season, I'm feeling positive about it. Oh, and well done Thistle, brought a good support tonight. MJC 125 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Typical pre season friendly fare but the night was about Stephen Craigan and it was good to see a decent turnout from both sets of supporters (even if Thistle fans are, in general, bangers, but fair play to them tonight). The result wasn't important of course but it's not often you'll see us win 1-0 thanks to a goal from Stephen Craigan, and it was a very well taken penalty aswell, maybe he's the answer to our spot kick woes, you never know. And it's always good to beat Partick Thistle, no matter how meaningless the game may be so that's a plus point. I liked what I saw from Nicky Law tonight, that was the first I'd seen him and he looks promising. Nice touch and good movement, he could be key for us this season. One thing that did concern me was the lack of threat we carried upfront. We are really going to miss John Sutton this season if tonight is anything to go by. Hopefully Higdon can get up to full fitness and become a real target man for us like Sutton was before him.

Andy_P 1,916 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 For anyone not there but seeing a 1-0 Motherwell win with Craigan scoring the winner in his own testimonial think it reeks of a "set up" but ofcourse it wasn't actually the case. Didn't look that comfortable at all getting co-erced into taking the penalty did he? But he finished it well. For the first 15-20 minutes we looked like we could run riot but it just seemed like all of a sudden it seemed to stop which was a wee bit of a disappointment having started so brightly. Ofcourse we still had near complete control of the game, loads of possession and were still carving out the odd opportunity here and there so hardly a disaster by any manner of means. Perhaps says it all that Randolph had his first save to make with three minutes left. It could well be that, assuming all are fit and available, that will be our starting eleven for Inverness so I would expect much the same on Saturday team wise. Will be interesting to see how we deal with the step up in quality. But all in all nice to honour Craggs, another win, and another step in the preparation towards the opening day so not a bad night at all.
Jay 1,028 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Blatant dive from Murphy, very decent penalty by Craigan, Nicky Law looks the mutt's nuts. That about covers it for me!!
LadywellToi 2 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Thought this was going to be very tasty after 20 minutes. However it kicked into pre-season mode soon enough, however I wasn't there for the spectacle I was there for to support the club captain. Law looks very capable, direct and his interplay with Hammell in particular looks like it will be a joy to watch with plenty of overlaps and cute 1-2's. Opposition defenders will definitely forget which one of the twins they are meant to be marking, here's to a few confusion induced goals from the left wing this year. Higdon was either 1 second too early in his anticipation or 1 too late, I couldn't work out which. Humphrey's final ball again needed some work. Jamie Murphy disappeared from view for an hour in the middle. Umpteen spurned chances that requires that clinical edge in 10 days time. Strong first 11 though. It promised so much, it delivered little, the scoreline flattered them, worrying they could have broke and it would have went down as a draw. Nice touch by Cragain going over to the disabled fans at the end and interacting with everyone there.
Amber_nectar 2 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 Came away from tonights game feeling fairly positive about the season ahead. Higdon did look a bit lost at times and I think he will take a few weeks to find his feet with his new team mates. The Hump still can't find a Motherwell player with his crosses. Big Hutch just gets better and better and Las and Jennings do the dirty work really well. Nicky Law and Steven Hammell look like a good match and I don't mean looks wise. One last thing, I think Craigan might be our new penalty kick specialist..
Ya Bezzer! 1,797 Report post Posted July 13, 2011 The Hump still can't find a Motherwell player with his crosses. It would probably help if more than 8 out of 10 left the grass. I've never seen a player that failed to get that many crosses into the air. It's a while since I played football and football boot technology has moved on but I see that he wears 'speed' style boots and I wonder if that actually effects his crosses because frankly you expect even fat old school team players like me to at least get the ball into the air most of the time. I've got a pair of those F50s he wears, and while I'm nowhere near as quick as Humph I can at least deliver a decent cross for most of the time. He's exasperating to watch, as the amount of times I've watched him blaze past 3-4 defenders only to shank his cross straight into the Cooper stand is infuriating to say the least.
