John Boyle supports quite a few charities with his Romanian orphans one being the most well known.

While a charity sponsor would be good PR it would not raise much needed cash for the club.

but then, wouldn't some companies be more willing to sponsor motherwell in other ways if they see us giving up "prime" real estate on our jersey?

In an ideal world yes. I’m not sure of the other ways they could sponsor us and still achieve maximum coverage for their brand. Companies will always want the prime ad location and in football that is the shirt.

The other solution would be to rename the stadium after the sponsor but that would open up a whole different issue on historical identity. It wouldn’t be such a problem if we moved, as it would offer us the opportunity to start afresh with a new sponsor stadium name. The name could change depending on who offers the most money.

At the end of the day the shirt sponsor is still the jewel in the crown for brand awareness.

I'm sticking by my charity story. Think it'll be brought forward for this season.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know the club have told us things are happening, and I do have confidence in them, however I have to admit to being a little concerned that with only 2 weeks until our first Europa game we still have no sponsorship deal announced.

Anyone else getiing a little twitchy about this.

i doubt the club has anything lined up or it`d be announced already, why wait so long? when do the new kits go on sale?, thatll be another reason were running around with the poor cap looking for 50p for Reynolds! Worrying that a team in scotlands national league with tv games during the season cant get a shirt sponsor

It's not all that worrying.

West Brom have spent the previous 2 seasons, one in the Premiership, without a main shirt sponsor.

If a Premiership/Championship team can't get a shirt sponsorship deal for 2 years with the TV coverage they get then what chance do we have?

I'd have to agree. If there was even the slightest possibility of a deal being done we'd have delayed the strip launch.

yeah but they can afford to sit and wait for the right deal, they have £40m+ per year coming in from the premiership and £20-£30m in parachuts payments when they dropped, so a year or two without a sponsor wont hurt them financially, im sure if they had wanted a sponsor and were only looking for £50k pa theyd have had a queue of companies a mile long.

We have a pitiful turnover of less than £3.8m pa (one of the lowest in the league) and are haemorraging cash due to a shite hole stadium/dodgy ground staff. We need ANY cash going in this climate so Its worrying that we cant sort something out,no matter how small + insignificant it may be!

Not sure who will sponsor the replica kit but maybe Motherwell could look into doing something similar...

Middlesbrough are offering 'front of shirt' sponsorship packages on a unique monthly basis after turning down seasonal offers that did not meet the club's expectations. Tailored For You… is the campaign message for Boro's innovative new 'front of shirt' sponsorship packages available throughout the 2010-11 season.

Boro are believed to be the first club in world football to offer access to its most high-profile rights package on a monthly basis.

This innovative approach will allow companies to promote themselves to target audiences directly during specific campaign periods.

Boro are also confident that it will bring fresh interest to the club from local, national and international companies who acknowledge the undoubted value of sports sponsorship but are reluctant to commit the financial sums required for seasonal sponsorship deals.

Chief Operating Officer Neil Bausor commented: "We have been fortunate at Middlesbrough Football Club to have attracted and worked with a fantastic array of successful, diverse and ambitious companies in our recent past.

"For some months now we have also been proactively engaged with numerous organisations for the club's front of shirt sponsorship rights from the start of the new season.

"Those conversations have ultimately not progressed to a satisfactory conclusion for us, and whilst it is important to recognise we are in a turbulent economic climate, I must also protect the best interests of the club commercially."

The Tailored For You… concept will allow companies to work with the club in creating a grant of sponsorship rights - including their logo appearing on Boro's home and away shirts - that are tailored exactly to their needs and will be made available over the 10 consecutive months of the football season (August 2010 - May 2011).

Matt Smith, Head of Commercial Partnerships, will lead the sales process for the new sponsorship package.

He said: "We're all genuinely excited in taking this new approach to the market. Sponsorship in football is long established now but this will definitely offer something different.

"It is easy for companies to recognise the immediate value this package can bring from a brand awareness position but what we are really keen to develop is the bespoke aspect.

"For the first time we'll offer an exclusive group of companies an opportunity to become an integral part of the club; we'll get them close to the action, the players and all the excitement that football offers.

"This is a chance to play a high-profile part in Boro's history by being involved in the club's forthcoming promotion push."

Boro anticipate such an exciting opportunity will draw a significant interest and asks that all interested parties contact the club's commercial team on 0844 499 6789.

That's a very good idea. Try and get 18 local companies to part with, say £4950, and for that they get guaranteed 'Match Ball' sponsorship - with the programme advertising and corporate prawn sarnie munching that comes along with it. The 18 also get entered into a prize draw with 1 lucky company being our main shirt sponsor. It will give us almost 100 grand and should be shooty in gettin 18 lanarkshire companies to part with what is a measly sum in the grand scheme of corporate marketing. They get guaranteed exposure with the chance of a real bargain.

And 90 odd grand for us is better than nothing - a couple of player's wages really.

I would expect our new first team kit will be ready in time for our first Europa Cup tie.

If so, does the kit sponsor have to be approved in advance by UEFA before it can be used in the competition?

Are there not just a set of guidelines you have to follow?

Nae casinos or booze, sounds like my Mrs wrote them :D
