Dissertation Help! - Community Projects

Guys...

Wondering if I could get a bit of help.

I am currently a student over at Strathclyde Uni studying marketing. I'm in my 4th year and working on my dissertation which basically looks at the community work the Scottish clubs undertake.

I have undertaken an interview with Bobby Jenks the community manager at the club, but also looking for some fan feedback. I would like to know:

1) Your general feelings on the community work the club carry out whether it be the Learning Centre, Support Employment, the Mini Steelkids or any other scheme?

2) How do you think these activities affect the Motherwell brand?

3) And is there any way you think the community work can affect fan loyalty?

It would be great to hear your thoughts, whether you have or have not experienced any of the projects.

I will be using some of the comments in the dissertation so if you would prefer me not to use your comment then just say so in your post.

Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember the Club getting a lot of criticism for letting prisoners work in the ground on a day release scheme. It made the front page of The Sun. I think they were convicted murderers if I remember correctly. The Motherwell brand took a bit of stick for it but I saw it as a positive thing for us to be doing.

I know the players and manager are always doing hospital visits and charity stuff, they're never out the Wishaw Press. If you search on this site I think the Club were praised for their involvment with a fan who recently passed away from cancer, they had his memorial service at Fir Park. I think that is an important role that the Club plays.

We got a bit of good press a few years ago when a wee boy wrote to all the SPL clubs saying he was looking for a team to support and we sent him free tickets so he became a Well fan.

As far as fan loyalty goes I think Community Work is very important, the Club have to be out there contributing to the community who in turn hopefully support the team. Its important especially in Scotland that the Club get the attention of the kids as early as possible so the Old Firm don't get their nasty claws into them.

Community Projects are probably the most important thing a club can get involved in away from the game itself.

Building a relationship with local schools, churches, and businesses should be almost as important to a football club as building a team.

If you are speaking to Bobby Jenks you won't go far wrong, I've known Bobby for over 20 years and he's a man with the club at heart and the work he has done with the 'Well youngsters is nothing short of excellent.
