Temps not predicted to drop below zero in that area after tonight over the next 7 days, but it'll struggle to get above 4C at any time. And that's the air temp, outside chance having seen the forecast for Wednesday but I'd be amazed if the game happens this coming week.

It's gonna need decent temp to thaw the grass out enough to host the tie, and I fear a max of 4degs aint enough. When we take into account the drop in temp when the sun sets, a midweek 2pm kick-off may be a possible solution.

Besides why should Locos worry about such a kick-off time, they already have the sales from 2,500 tickets in their bank account ?

Message on the guestbook of the Locos website says "nae frost today just rain".

That can be confirmed via a webcam of Inverurie >>>> Inverurie Webcam Clicky

Now, given there's no frost, temperatures haven't been too bad in the last day or so, are expected to remain similar for the next day or so, there's sunshine forecast for tomorrow....dare we begin to believe it might just be on?

Pitch Inspection is not in the next half hour... The SFA have requested a look at the park and that will take place at 12.30!

The actual formal inspection will be tomorrow morning at 8.30am (according to their Sec who is not long off the phone to MFC)...

25/01/2009 - Pitch inspection With pitch conditions improving dramatically in the last hour or so it has been decided that another pitch inspection will be held tomorrow morning at 9am.

The pitch is currently taking a blade but an inch or so down is frozen and is very slippy.

However, the weather is currently sunny in Inverurie with a nice drying breeze, so hopefully the forecast which predicts temparature remaining above freezing tonight will be prove to be correct and that the match will get the go-ahead.

Further update from the Loco's site....

Hopes are high that the old saying "third time lucky" will apply to the Homecomig Scottish Cup 4th Round tie between Inverurie Locos and Motherwell, scheduled for Harlaw Park tomorrow night, Monday 26th January with a 7.45 pm kick off

A heavy frost on Friday night had made prospects bleak and Saturday night into Sunday morning a shift to heavy rain.

However there has been a dramatic switch in the latter part of Sunday morning, with the rain abating, a strong drying wind blowing up and the welcome appearance of the sun.

Club Secretary Brian Shanks was at the ground to assess the situation and report back to the SFA but gave the following more positive outlook

"There will be no official pitch inspection today(Sunday) that will now take place tomorrow morning at 9am. That is based on the big improvement which has taken place and the fact the surface is taking half an inch to an inch of stud.

There are parts of the ground which are actually acceptable right now although a game could certainly not take place today. Some parts still have the frost and there needs to be a thaw but based on the anticipated weather today, we are far more hopeful"

The overnight weather is also more promising with one degree forecast followed by sunny conditions again tomorrow. With a return to wetter weather as the week goes on, tomorrow's chances look far better than if the game goes off tomorrow and held back another time to Wednesday

Just spoken to my mate in Westhill, Aberdeen and he reckons if the weather is as forecast there is a good chance of the game being on. skies look a bit clear but reckons the inspection is to confirm the game as being on, and not to put it off.

In that wee Inverurie town webcam it looks frosty but obviously you can't tell to what extent.

The thing is that with temperatures forecast to get up to around 6C depending on whose forecast you believe and with sunshine also forecast, while its unlikely to be playable at 0900 this morning, that could change as the day goes on.

I don't know how much inspections take account of forecasts or anticipated changes in weather but maybe if there's still doubt rather than call it off they should maybe look again at 1100 or 1200 when the sun and temperature rises have had a chance to kick-in.

Suppose we'll find out soon enough!
