And as for the senior players he brought in, Ruddy, Jutkiewicz and Coke are all history already, we are still waiting on Humphrey to live up to the hype, Hateley has been very average this season and only Jennings has made a real impact.

Gannon brought the best out of young players, Craggs got booted because he had been at the club so long, he had became a concrete pick every week, not because he was a good player , but because he had been at the club ten years or so.(Cant drop Craggs as he has been here years type scenario) Gannon likes playing football nothing else, senior players dont like to be told that what they are doing is not good enough, hence the reason he was booted out.

I am sorry i am not accepting that Jennings is the only Gannon player in the team that makes an impact, both Humphrey and Hateley makes impacts every week, if they were not producing the goods they wont start.

As for Gannon, yes he is a little abrupt, and yes he has an opinion and an ideal on how football should be played, the problem does not lie with Gannon it lies with over paid players who dont like having to work harder and listen to a manager who will not take any shit. You argue with Gannon or play your own game while on the pitch, you will get dropped or taken off at half time. Your choice, ask Craggs.

Gannon might not be the peoples favorite or even the players favorite, but he is there to sort out the club.....and you start that at the players then work your way up. To many characters at a club and they take control, Gannon will not have that.

does that not say more about gannon than craggs? gannon clearly has problems dealing with grown men who aren't going to cower in fear of him. in his autobiography big tel speaks of how valuable phil, marshall, leitch and craggs were to him when he was manager, would gannon have tolerated that kind of input?

the gannon craggs relationship always made me think of the frank grimes episode of the simpsons. gannon obviously thought craggs was a diddy and the fact that craggs had achieved more in the game and had more of a media profile clearly rankled with the stockport superstar .

Also, I don't think his "eye for a player" is that great. Juke and Ruddy were loans, and Coke is gone. Hately and Hump are good players but nothing special. I'll give him the credit for Jennings though. However, other managers brought in the likes of Hughes, Porter, O'Brien, McCormack, and McDonald. So Gannon wasn't the first manager to get us a couple of good players, I'd give the club the credit for a lot of those listed as it took a few extra quid to make it happen.

How does the fact that Juke, Ruddy and Coke are now gone make them any less of a good find?

No, Gannon wasn't the first manager to get us a couple of good players. But he was the first for a long time who brought in so many players of a reasonable or high standard as soon as they were needed and in exactly the positions he had identified as being an issue.

Terry Butcher wasn't slow to let the players know where they stood either on occasion by the way, Richie Foran can vouch for that......

aye and foran is still doing a job for him years later.

gannon would have probably have subbed marshall off before extra time started in the semi at easter road for trying to give a team talk without permission.

There can't have been many guys that were with the club such a short time that polarise opinion so much as Gannon..

FWIW - I view his contribution as positive overall although I believe that his flaws contributed to his exit.

The rebuilding job he did with the squad was considerable and shouldn't be underestimated - I just don't think many other managers would have done as good a job in such a short time, even given he probably had a decent working budget. His "hit rate" of getting decent players in was high - to my mind only moutouakil wasn't a decent SPL level player or better - the rest proved themselves to be good at Motherwell's level.

The bottom line is that we had a horror end to the calendar year in 2009, just as we did in 2010 incidentally, but nothing Gannon did fatally derailed our season due to the good job Brown did when he came in - we still qualified for Europe, we didn't spunk huge amounts on compensation, etc. Ironically, whereas history may show Gannon's contribution to be a net positive, the same may not be said for his successor whose actions have probably done more long-term damage to the club than Gannon managed to do.

:P Or his predecessor, a manager is often judged on the state he leaves a club in. McGhee left us with a squad so depleted, the term threadbare only tells half the story. Brown is an auld c**t who looked after himself at all times, playing safe and admittedly getting decent results but his lack of vision for the future is at the root of our problems just now.

What great state did Gannon leave the club in? Out of all his signings only one was contracted past the coming summer. Ruddy, The Juke and Yass were leaving in January with Jennings, Coke, Hateley and O'Brien's contracts running out in the summer.

Saying that, Brown signed up a few young players on new contracts, not to mention Hateley and Ruddy/Juke signing on to the end of the season thanks to Brown.

He left a squad of players.

Take away his signings, and the youngsters he blooded, and there wasn't much of a squad for Brown to work with.

The one year contracts were a deliberate strategy to see how the players performed, and the contracts would have been renewed if club and player wanted to renew them, indeed only one of Gannon's permanent signings left.

Most loan deals are for 6 months initially, so why the criticism for 6 month loan deals?

Amazing how many people can state with absolute certainty what would have happened had Gannon stayed with regards to the team being relegated and players leaving.

He left. We'll never actually know one way or the other.

 Jeezus, some of this stuff you lot actually believe cos you've told yourself it so often?

Same way the Pro-Gannon gang have told themselves the players are to blame for him not being here any longer, and that Craigan and his gang got him the boot. Which is absolute bollocks.
