  1. hibs away, when they had the wooden benches behind the goal - no cover

cant remember if hibs infiltrated the well end or if it was well fans fighting the police

but i was about 10, and more interested in that than watching the game!!!!

anyone else have a recollection of that?

from a football point of view -

losing to St Mirren in the cup when they were in the First division - we'll call it Charlie Adam day - he destroyed us

losing to Airdrie in th cup, someone (Lasely?) scored an O|G from about 25 yards

i can accept defeats in the league, i think we are much of a muchness, losing cup games always hits me hardest as i know its our only real chance of success

  2. Stephen is a talented stopper in the Andy Goram mould

The chap is twice the size Goram was but it still made me chuckle.

FFS - some things never change, the guy is just in the door and you're having a dig at him already!!

  3. I thought Kello signed for the rest of the season at St. Mirren.

    he did

thats why i said "end of season replacement" - meaning when his contract was up

it looks like dan may come back in, and i think that gives us time to suss him out more - although i was more impressed from what i have seen of him, than what i have seen of Nielsen and Hollis

with GK contracts due to expire in the summer - i was thinking that is someone who has experience and has already impressed at this level

  4. hahahahahaha

    i just read that.........

"While wanton vandalism cannot ever be right neither is it right that a section of the Celtic support have been labelled as vandals without any foundation or proof." - is it not proof enough that rows of seats were yanked out and destroyed?!

what also made me laugh was the links on the RHS of the page - one for the local MSPs - no doubt to complain

and the other "witness statement" - no doubt for all the scum bags to gather enough evidence when something goes tits up

  5. For all that he done really well in his short stint with us, I'd prefer that we see out the season with Hollis or Gunnar in goals and keep our eye out for a better replacement for next season. Twardzik was just too wee in my opinion and at some point that would have cost us

what about seeing McHugh go to Dundee and us taking Dan?

Dan played 5 games, we won them all and within those 5 games he inspired more confidence in the team/defence than Hollis or Neilsen have done all season.

So I fail to see your point.

Anyone in the team can make a mistake that will cost us - i cant believe in this day and age people are still being heightist!!

  6. It seems they can't wait to get on to talk about the 10 years of languishing/now doing good/we'll forget about how awful they've been Aberdeen, with glee. The unbridled wankfest that was Dundee Utd's kids up until before Christmas which has now stalled no doubt had a few wishing they hadn't asked Santa for tangerine coloured tissues.

i'm listening to a Sportsound Extra podcast, and this is exactly what they are talking about - Kenny McIntyre, Grahma Spiers, Gordon Waddell and Stuart Cosgrove

In fairness to Cosgrove, he said he visited Fir Park when we scudded them 4-0 and he was very impressed and that has not been highlighted in the media, we have quietly went about our business under the radar

Spiers totally agreed with him and also mentioned that McCall has been the best manager in the league since he came aboard

  7. In general, I imagine it's a tough choice for any player on our books. In recent times we have had great teams to play for, but even at our peak we have had to reduce budgets and salaries. So successful players who would no doubt be enjoying their football, have to think about securing their own financial futures.

A guy like Reynolds, even moving back to Aberdeen, is probably on twice his Motherwell salary - plus he would have a nice chunk of change from his trip down south. Ultimately, it's down to how much ambition you have and how much job satisfaction you are willing to gamble. I can't imagine it's ever an easy decision - especially for the younger players.

From an age perspective too, it would seem like the right time for him to leave. 24 years old, 150 games, learned his trade somewhat.

Wasn't the best full back I have ever seen, but fitted in to McCall's system just fine.

Met the guy a few times...nice fella tbh....there ah said it.

Having only ever had brief chats with Tom in the Centenary and on a separate occasion, his dad when my son was the mascot.....

Tom Hateley was a loyal servant/ever present for for four seasons,he played well over 150 games and scored a not bad return of goals

i've met him a few times, and he couldnt have been nicer - a decet guy with a funny accent! at no time when talking to me was he a prick or did he come across as a billy big time. i've stuck up for him before a few times on here and i'll do it again

i totally agree with weeyin, people need to understand that these PLAYERS are not fans, they are PLAYERS who are doing THEIR JOB.

    having job satisfaction is great

going to work every day with your mates is great

playing football for a living is great

    BUT

staying at Motherwell your whole life and showing them loyalty isnt going to set you and your family up for life, yes he may earn more than your average punter, but that still doesnt mean he is set up for life

playing as many games as he did for us under different managers, and barely missing any of them in his time here, tells me that those who know the game better than most, clearly seen something he offered the team, not just any team, but a team who were/are one of the best Motherwell teams in a long time

do i think he is a world beater? No.

do i think he will ever play at a high level? No

do i think we were his level? Yes

but can you blame hime for wanting to try something else? Lasley and Hammell, 2 players that our fans seem to adore - both done it

  8. Is his Rotherham contract up at the end of the season? I'd love to keep him permanently
keep him til the end of the season - YES permanent role - no! and the reason for that is you only have to look at the number of clubs he has played for, we've seen how inconsistent he can be, we've seen how he disappears and thankfully over the last few games we've seen how hot he can be too - and all those previous clubs must have seen the same on loan - he's more than likely to keep on his toes and provide the performances we have seen of late
  9. excellent performance and can really only echo whats already been said

was nice to see Carsy sending Dan over to the supporters - a well deserved send off

will be interesting to see what McCall chooses to do GK wise, with Hollis still carrying an injury, it looks as if Nielsen will be given the nod

I just checked the Dundee FC player profies, including Dan the man, they have 5 GKs on their books - surely we could ask to extend the loan until the end of the season? However if we were to do this? What would it mean for Hollis/Nielsen? I'm guessing they wouldnt be happy - and can we afford to have unhappy players at the club?

And lastly, was nice to see, what seemed like the full east stand on their feet before the end of the game for a "stand up for the motherwell" - the players thoroughly deserved that one

    #SIWY

  10. another great TEAM performance - everyone was on the ball

im giving my vote to Vigurs, an assist for the opening goal - which I thought came when St J had started to try to get control of the game

and for his goal, the 2nd, which kind of killed of any hope they had of getting back into the game

lets hope he kicks on, because with that kind of vision, passing, ability - he certainly can be a valuable asset

  11. Regarding Twardzik; would Dundee be really be willing to let him go?

after convincing recent performances at a level higher than what is old club are playing - i very much doubt it

he's either performing on adrenaline or he does indeed have talent

i've been impressed - even for someone so young and inexperienced, he's not scared to let those international experienced defenders in front of him know that he is not happy with them

  12. team selection is going to be difficult, and although we scored 5 we need to take into account, St J are far superior than what Thistle are

if we play the same way, its difficult to play Sutton IMO - Faddy played in the hole and was really allowed a free role, leaving Anier upfront himself, Sutton will run all day for us, but Anier has more pace either to take a man on or chase things down

I can't see him dropping Faddy - after Thursdays performance, a confident Faddy is a good one to have in the team

But its a nice headache to have, instead of us saying he's shite, he's shite and we should be bringing in x, y and z

think May will need to be given some treatment, maybe not in the Goodwin category, but nonetheless, he needs to know he isnt going to get it easy

  13. although they have been on a good run, they will come to FP and park the bus

they will be happy with a point and its up to us to break them down

we wont do it tho, and like many other games this season we may get caught on the break

obviously hope i am wrong - but that is how i see St Mirren playing, much like Accies did when they were in the SPL - bring teams down to their level and make it a dog fight

  14. I'll be there tonight, supporting the team and hoping for a reaction - the result doesnt majorly concern me - its the players attitudes I want to see different. I want to see McManus or Hutchy wipe out Stokes. I want to see Carsy, Las, Lawson whoever wipe out Brown.

I want to see that the players are hurting and I want to see that it means something to pull on the C&A jersey

"wiping these players out" some might say thats anti football, but its what we need to do. They are considerably better than us, but they need to know we are up for it and that we are going to give them nothing.

If we lose 5 nil, and I can see that theyve done their best - blown out their arses - then thats good enough for me

performance and attitude is everything tonight, although if we dont turn up and win 1 nil - i might be able to accept that!!!

  15. not been on for a while, so excuse the multiple quotes - the rovers game as i mentioned previously hampered my enthusiasm for tonights game, but its friday and i'm trying to get back involved!

If we can't replace any released loanees we would surely have the smallest squad to pick from in the SPFL. Not good if we get any serious injuries or suspensions.

this is the consequences of failing to perform in the cup, not just this year, but previous years too. we were told by Leann im sure, that cup runs are more financially rewarding than attaining a higher league position and european football. Extra revenue from the games, OF split of money if we reach the semis, tv money etc - you only have to look at the last couple of attendances in europe. this season 6500 for Kuban - we'd get more if we played Hibs, Hearts, Utd, Aberdeen in the cup at home

He knew he would have to rebuild the squad over the summer if he stayed with us and I'm afraid that the players he had brought in aren't good enough because we have an unbalanced midfield and zero pace and are thus an uninspiring side going nowhere and I believe that McCall has done as much as he can with us.

In answer to the question of who should be brought in though, I say....Paul Hartley.

There is no guarantee that changing manager will help though so the argument is perfectly sound. We are in the same position Aberdeen were in with Jimmy Calderwood where they were acheiving decent league results (including getting through to Europa League) and yet he lost his job over a couple of poor cup results. Since then their league position slumped and they still got knocked out of the Cup early and its only in the last few seasons that they have started to become a credible threat in the league again.

As for your suggestion of Paul Hartley, our board when we do look for a manager will seek someone with a good knowledge of English leagues (lower leagues in particular) as that is a market which has continued to prove fruitful for us in the past. I think this will knock suggestions like Hartley, Shiels or any of the other names commonly banded about in Scottish Football on the head. Were we to change manager, I think we could possibly look for someone like Owen Coyle who will have to work hard to rebuild his career given the allegations of unrest at Wigan and also meets the criteria of decent knowledge of english leagues.

As much as I'd love to see Coyle here it just isn't going to happen as he will demand a salary which we couldn't even begin to match.

A Paul Hartley type would be a good forward thinking appointment for us just now as he appears to be a good up and coming young manager who would bring his own ideas and philosophies to the table. Yes we've had success via the English lower league market in recent years but who's to say a newer approach wouldn't benefit us? Hartley will have his 'contacts' aswell in the game.

MJC / Dodge - we cant sack mccall - we cant afford it. we also wont sign a manager who is under contract - we cant afford it

I know some people say "a wage" is better than no wage - but there is no way in hell Owen Coyle would come to Motherwell - he'll get another job down south, easily 5 times more than we can offer. He doesnt need the money - im sure he's got enough in the bank to tick him over. If he's still unemployed this time next year, he may think about coming down to our level - but not at this time. I'm not one that wants McCall out, i personally feel the players are more to blame for saturdays performance than McCall. Would have Levein as your manager? I wouldn't! Shiels I think I could handle, although I dont know if he is too much like Gannon - too much to say rather than just getting on with it. One of the things that has made us flourish in the last few years is squad happiness and togetherness, I dont know if Shiels brings that

Assuming they actually give a toss then the players should be picking themselves up after that shambles, if they cannot lift themselves for a game against the Champions both incumbent and elect then they have no business playing football for a living.

Part of the Managers role is to interact with the fans he was quick enough to do so at the Sportsmans dinner where everyone was having a good time and everything was happy and positive.

Maybe the big book of excuses has gone missing.

I believe the players do care, from the one I spoke to, he said they were embarassed and need to live with the professional humiliation. When I said there were a few fans suicidal, he said there were a few players that way too - i have to take him at his word, i have no reason to doubt him

The proof of the pudding is this - is the current squad good enough? It's not, not only have most of the players brought in have failed to spark (not necessarily McCall's fault) but the make up of the squad, the balance of the squad is completely inadequate and heavily weighted to defensive players and strikers.

If budgets cuts are responsible when why did McCall sign Lawson? Anyone? He doesn't fit into our system and he's not going to change the system to suit Lawson. We never really needed a player like him in the first place. So why did he bring him in? Lawson is to all extents and purposes a wasted wage with Carswell and Lasley already on the books.

It's December and no one has any idea what our best XI is, because the manager doesn't have a clue how to cobble a team together out of the squad THAT HE ASSEMBLED.

If you are playing a 4-4-2 you need at least three wide midfield players, we have one contracted. If you are playing a 4-4-2 you need at least two creative attacking midfield players, we have one contracted and nothing else. If you are playing 4-4-2 you need at most 4 strikers. We have 5, including one that has been brought in on loan and is probably taking a large whack of cash out the club.

I don't doubt McCall works under difficult financial restrictions but those restrictions will only get worse next season due to his incompetence during the summer to build a balanced squad that was fit for purpose.

Bring back Ross Forbes and Steven Lawless!!! I dont think the players we have signed are bad ones - far from it. I think the problem lies with what formation suits the players we have. Thats McCalls job / responsibilty and I think he needs to establish this quickly. I also think if you were to ask the fans what our best formation/players are - there would be a multitude of answers. Whereas in the last few seasons, squad consistency has definitely been a key to our success

My mantra with McCall from day 1 is he is more concerned with limiting damage than inflicting it.

Still won't punt him, just ask him to explain why he is so slow to change style, formations, subs etc.

and i totally agree with that - that is IMO what has cost us in the cups - rather than saying to them - we're a good team, we can score goals, just play your usual game - he has changed the team/tactics are we have suffered because of it

  16. my initial reaction was to not go on friday, ive got a ST, so the club already have my money

but its on TV, so if its shit - i can turn it off and watch something else!

im now beginning to change my mind to go - but on the sames lines as Frazzie, i dont care what the players say, i dont care what McCalls says - actions speak louder than words

i dont particularly care if we lose on Friday - its expected, but what I want to see is 100% effort from every single one of them - nothing else is acceptable

and if we dont see blood, guts and tears within the first 15mins - i fear the crowd will turn on the players, and to an extent, quite rightly so

  17. Statement from Rovers about the switch to Hamilton and, gasp :O, details for a replay should it be required...

right, i think Albion are playing a blinder here............move the game to Accies for more cash, then get a replay for even more cash

Italian corruption right there - im going to the bookies and putting £5 on the draw!!!!!!!!!!

  18. I read in the paper today that the Inverness players have given up there 5 days off during the international break to do extra training.

I suppose there's no chance our players (or manager) have done the same thing following the shambles against united?

do you think it would make a difference?

we are still 2 points ahead of the team who "humiliated" us in that shambolic performance you speak of

and worse case scenario, we are 13 points clear of the play off spot

there's no way I can argue that our performances this season have been anywhere near last season - but wholesale changes are going to have that impact.

suspensions and injuries are going to do that too - something we were fortunate with the last few seasons

  19. i've been to see us play there in a pre season friendly, just so i could tick it off the list!

its a shit hole - and believe me, i prefer going to "old" stadia then newer ones

what is their average gate? how many fans do they have? do they think they could beat us? its going to be a tough call -

is it actually worth moving? its not as if we will take 3/4000 fans - do they think they could sneak a draw and get it back to fir park? there's more money in it that way for them

they might tell us - there is 800 tickets, thats yer lot

is there really a derby interest there? I dont think so
