  1. I think everyone recognizes Erwin's clearly shown a fair bit of raw potential and has made a difference at times coming on this season. However today was not one of his better games. He put himself about but struggled to get a hold of the ball and when he was put clean through on goal he looked a bag of nerves. To me he never looked like scoring and his effort that trundled past the post was so bad it was almost funny. His day was summed up when he inadvertently blocked Ainsworth's through ball to Ojamaa near the end with the ball smacking off his back.

Just one of those day for the lad and he looked to be lacking a bit of confidence, missing chances like today and the header against Celtic are hardly going to have done much to improve that. However you have to give the boy credit, he doesn't hide and keeps getting himself into good positions to get these chances so he should take some confidence from that. He always shows flashes of real potential, even today the near the end when he plucked a ball out the sky with a superb first touch before driving past a few players to the corner and winning a free kick near the end. Anyway given we have 7 games in January I'm sure he'll have plenty more opportunities to put those misses behind him and get himself the goal his efforts deserve.

On the game we were decent 1st half and could have been a few up. Ainsworth was superb in that 1st half, he even played the full 90 mins and put in a decent shift for the team. Also thought Law put in another decent shift, not flashy or anything but you can see why managers keep picking him as he seems to do what they ask of him with minimal fuss. Agree that Ojamaa was out of sorts, might be in part due to him being shunted out onto the left and struggling to get into the game. Came onto a bit of a game in the last 10 when he went through the middle and was unlucky not to score.

2nd half was poor to watch, penned in and we really struggled to get a hold of the ball to get Ainsworth or Ojamaa into the game. However we all said when Baraclough was appointed it was results that mattered first and foremost and you can't ask for anymore than 6 points and 2 clean sheets. On that note I thought the back 4 played well as a unit, probably aided by the return of Hammell and by having two defensive minded players sitting in front of the back four protecting them. Did Twardzik even have to make a save?

Some definite positives, especially us looking a bit more solid and organized and working better as a unit. Good to see Baraclough saying that the 2nd half performance wasn't up to scratch though, I get the feeling he knows where we need to improve and slowly but surely he's going to get us where we need to be.

Unlike others Lee has started two games this season up front, HIS NATURAL POSITION, whenever he has been instructed to come on more often he is coming on when the team is struggling and usually has been shifted to midfield. It actually amazes me on how a young player gets so much comment when for the previous 75 mins most of the team have been poor but that is maybe the current keyboard style via a forum.

  2. Good first half, we fairly lost the head in the second.

Not a fan of the Ramsden/Lasley midfield pairing. Think we need either Vigurs or Lawson in there besides one of them with a better range of passing to control the pace of the game.

Lee Erwin has all the raw physical attributes that should tear this league apart but the boy is thick as fuck, his positional awareness is just bizzare at times.

Why do we hate Christie Elliot again?

What an absolute poor comment regards to" lee Erwin being thick as fuck' tell me please how his positional wareness is bizarre?

  3. The last 2 posts are linked. In that Watson did what ZFA should have done. Watson put Sutton under enough pressure and body checked him enough so that Sutton missed.

ZFA stood like a Zombie waiting for the ball to come to him and obviously had no awareness of Watson. Rank bad defending and just all round poor football.

Totally agree with this comment, likewise Sutton,s failure to match Soutter at the first goal was very poor.

  4. How do you know he's good enough though? St mirren tried the same yesterday and put in the worst performance of the season (just when they thought they couldn't be any worse) so it doesn't always work out as planned. Is a relegation battle the time to do it? Leitch Cadden Erwin have all had game time season and it hasn't really worked out I'm sure all will agree. I still maintain that part of the problem is McManus lasley and Sutton have been woeful all season (and have played just about every minute) but I just don't think the youngsters are good enough to replace these 3

Don't agree regarding game time -As stated before it would be good to compare Sutton versus Erwin in the forward position, unfortunately Erwin has played two games this season up front (St Mirren and County) the rest across the midfield whereas with the exception of Accies at home Sutton started all games at centre forward.

  5. cant agree! Season after season we have replaced like for like. This season no one replaced Hutchison. O'Brien wages dictates he should be nothing more than a squad player same as Law. We even have squad players holding down Ist team positions due to a limited squad.

If for example we were a United or Aberdeen, do you think Sutton, Lasley, McManus would not be dropped? Unfortunate for us they cant be dropped as even when playing at 60% they are still better that anything in our squad. To perform like we have done in past seasons requires a Limited squad giving 100%. Sadly we never saw that this year for McCall.

Can't agree with your example of Sutton. Erwin has played two games up front - St Mirren & County, the rest of the games he has been shunted to wide areas or attacking midfielder (Accies) therefore it would be interesting to see if Erwin could do better than Sutton if allowed to, especially given the amount of game time Sutton has had this season.

  6. Yeah, you only do it hiding behind a screen.

Anyway, Ojamma, by far the best player on the park last night. Ainsworth and Vigurs also had good games

Ojamma by a distance for 45 mins followed by Ainsworth. For me the whole team didn't perform in the 2nd half or maybe Saints raised their game.

  7. Really? Not keen on that at all. A midfield of Reid and Lasley with Angol and Law wide? Against Aberdeen's five man midfield...

Back 3 of ramsden, mc manus, hammell,

Midfield of Kerr and Angol wing backs. centre mid of Lasley,Reid and law.

    Sutton and Ojamaa up top.

  8. Mate I agree it was a better performance........but you state that Law is no comfortable at left midfield player...n

But that was the substitution that cost us a point.........Law for Erwin??????

A rookie at SPL footballer who plays up front has been handed a midfield role in our last 2 home games......why?????

After that master stoke it was only a matter of time..........why not bring on Leitch ????

I fear the worst this season when McCall is constantly playing players in the wrong position/area :dash2:

I may be biased here however bang on, Erwin has played 90 mins versus STMIRREN at centre. Since then he has played left wing all the games since apart from 5-10mins here and there. I see Mc Call has blamed Lee for goal in his post review, utter nonsense, when did McCall last take blame or said he could have done better?

  9. We did start with two "centre forwards".......Ainsworth was constantly in the right midfield....so we had three forwards on from the start.........against United we had two (centre)forwards on from the start with four midfielders........

Did you think this team selection worked yesterday mate ???????

I am certainly not disputing that we started with two" centre forwards" however one was told to play left mid field / wing. Ainsworth for me was playing the same position as last season.

One of the forwards (Erwin ) has started the last two games at left hand side spending more time tracking back defensively than getting at the opposition.

I agree that McCall,s team selection certainly did not work yesterday.

  10. From BBC Sport Quote

    Stuart McCall demands Motherwell improvement

"Basic stuff we couldn't do," sighed McCall. "We couldn't pass from A to B. "

Well Stuart if you start playing players in their natural position maybe they will start to get the basics right

As soon as I saw the team sheet yesterday Sutton and Erwin starting....... I feared the worse.........

Then to compound it with Ainsworth playing right midfield role :dash2: .l.........when his greatest asset is his speed

It was clear after a few minutes this formation was not working with Caley dominating the midfield.

It was crying out for a midfield player to come on at the expense of one of the centre forwards...........

But we get Ojamaa (unfit) on and Erwin playing right midfield :help: WHY ???? when we had FOUR midfield players on the bench

In all my time watching Motherwell I can not recall a game where we did not have a single shot on target...........

? We didnae start with two centre forwards -Sutton was through the middle with Ainsworth and Erwin in the wide areas, Carswell, Las & Law in the centre of midfield. This was the same formation that was used against Utd with a couple changes I.e law inside for Leitch allowing Ainsworth in the wide area.

  11. Interesting? Wasn't in Iceland and haven't read anything about a disagreement with Erwin? What's the script!!

No disagreement - Erwin on halfway line with 4th official waiting to go on. Ainsworth scores and McCall then decides to put on Kerr and Angol instead of Erwin. No "script " here.

  12. You certainly develop a perspective when you have been following any team for a long time. Undoubtedly we are on a downer, but it's not something that spoils my weekend any more. We lost the core of a team that took 4 years to build - I wasn't expecting much out of this season, and so far that's exactly what has been delivered.

Not that I'm happy about overall performance, and we definitely need to continue the rebuild in the next window. I know there is some good money associated with difference in a league position or two, but if nothing else, we have a little bit more leeway to play the Moores, Leitches, Erwins (if he's not crocked again) into the first team.

Erwin has had one injury before today.
