  1. Overall I'd say we have a tidy little side, solid defense and decent midfield. Should be able to control the ball much as we did today against the majority of teams. Problem is, I don't see where the goals are going to come from. Sutton looks off pace, hopefully he'll warm to the task. And James just tries to do too much on his own - granted he doesn't have much help up front. Packing in the center of defense is a great tactic against us until we can figure out how to space the field better. But it is early days, so I'm happy with the win. Experiment a bit in Russia and get back to business against Aberdeen.

  2. Fingernails chewed off. What a lousy display in the last 15 minutes...looked like headless chickens running about. All in all we were lucky to get three points. But it's still a win, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Humphrey was the key as he opened up the game, but without Murphy, he was our only threat going forward as Law was largely quiet. Ojamaa was really ineffective on the wing. Thought Hateley had a nice game. Shame about Randolph, hope it's not long-term.

Oh, and the pitch was an absolute mess.

  3. Hoops will play inspired football after losing to Hibs. Could get out of hand...3-0 for Celtic. Really hope I'm wrong, but can't see us pulling this one out, which makes giving away two points on Saturday all the more frustrating.

Same place we were without Faddy, Skippy, Porter, Juke etc. A different team, but not necessarily a worse one.

Yes, sides change and good players will move on. Just need to replace quality with quality...or potential quality.

  5. Our leaky defense does not inspire confidence in the prediction game. Suffice to say, if we give up a couple of goals and lose, everyone will be panic stricken again like two weeks ago. I hope we can get three points out of this...a bounce back win would be massive. I'll say 3-2 good guys, but more wishful than confident.

Absolutely buzzing after listening to the MFCTV commentary , the guys' reaction when the winner went in was brilliant .

Had my ear to the mobile, they almost blew out my eardrum! The missus from the other room says, "I take it they won, then?" And how!

  7. Where did the £300 adult membership number come from? I've got to believe a lot of supporters would like to invest, but are on the fence as this is a lot of money. Would it not make more sense to have a cheaper buy-in price, say £100 or £150, to attract more people? Sure would make it easier for me to contribute. Just curious as to the rationale here.

Hibs lost 3 goals from crosses in their last match. They are missing the influence of McPake, while Stevenson and Maybury are obvious targets at full back. So if Humphrey and Murphy are in the mood you would expect us to have some joy.

Absolutely...ICT had three shockingly easy headers for goals last weekend. Would hope that Higdon could bag a couple if he gets proper service. Law's presence would be massive in opening up the field. A 2-2 draw sounds about right with a decent shot at a win. The lads need to step it up!

  9. McCall is going nowhere and there is no crisis as MJC would have us believe. As long as we are in the top third of the table, that's darn good. I think McCall is pretty much getting all he can out of this bunch. And lets face it, the talent pool is pretty shallow for us given the league we are in and the financial constraints we are under. It's tough to be consistent given those factors.

That said, perhaps he could be a bit more creative...but without a wealth of talent and reserves that can change a game upon entry, I'm not so sure there's too much he can do. Where I think he can make a difference is lighting a fire under his so called leaders. Unfortunately he does not seem to have the fiery personality to do that. As much as McCall, I blame Lasley for lack of on-field leadership. A stronger personality needs to step up, as it's not just upon the manager to demand accountability.

All in all, no big complaints from me about McCall. And to anyone saying the season is over, doom and gloom because we are out of the Cup(s), settle down and see how 2013 plays out. Chasing a European spot is still an exciting goal for us.

  10. Any word on the knocks picked up by Law and Higdon on Saturday? Assuming everyone is healthy, a 2-1 win for the home side sounds about right. We should be up for it, but the lads must establish early pressure. Cannot let Aberdeen score first and then have to chase the game.

If I'd been told before the game, we'd go to Aberdeen without Randolph or Hutchinson and get a replay then I'd have taken it. Aye, disappointing to concede so late on, but looking at the big picture it's not too bad. Shows we can compete without our two most sellable assets...

Agree. Thought a tie would be a good result, although a bit deflating the way it happened. Not all doom and gloom, though as we're still in it. Heads up for the home replay!

Anyone notice that Arbroath stunned Celtic with a late equalizer at Celtic Park? Would have won too, if not for an own goal. Go on Red Lichties! cheers.gif

For me it has to be Shaun Hutchinson. However a special mention for Chris Humphrey, he caused the Hearts defence problems with his direct style of play.

Thought Humphrey had a good second half. First half, not so much. He has got to stop shoving his opponent in the back...he'll always get called for that. But he is so explosive when he gets his dander up. Just needs to be more consistent.

I liked Carswell taking the ball into the corner flag in injury time. Lesson learned from Pittodrie.

Good point...I thought that was smart and a class thing to do. He could have just as easily had a chance on goal to pour salt into the wound.

  14. One of the most enjoyable and satisfying games I've seen in a while. The first half was about as good as it gets. We moved the ball clinically and Higdon played his role superbly. Murphy definitely drank his Red Bull as he played with wings. Thought Humphrey had a nice game too. Randolph was aggressive and made nice decisions with the ball, finding the open man regularly. From there, our transition from defense to offense was beautiful to watch. Great effort today, lads!
