Aberdeen were rank rotten at the Withdean on Saturday.
More than anything else, it seemed to me that they looked several weeks behind Brighton in terms of fitness, and match sharpness.
Although Motherwell have not added many, our youngsters are a year older and wiser (hopefully), so its not all doom and gloom.

What are the 1st impressions of our new goalie?
Given how influential Ruddy was last year, I have always feared that this may be the hardest position to fill...

Would not waste anyone's time on this one.
McCormack has looked lazy for several years now - certainly a skillful player, but doubt he would be able to step up to the pace of the Premier league given that he has looked fairly immobile in League One down here.

This can be argued from all sorts of viewpoints.
As a counter I will simply point out that you can take up an early bird option at Brighton's Withdean stadium (the equivalent of EK's Whitemoss running track) for £425 (its £489 after the early bird).
For that money you get to see League One football, and for an extra £1 you can buy your very own poncho to make up for the lack of a roof...

Not disagreeing with your post - but suspect that you are possibly ambitious if you think Motherwell have the spending power ie wage budget of Orient. I suspect that players like Scott McGleish would be out of our reach (yes, I know how old he is). There are more than a handful of players in the lower reaches of League One who earn in excess of 4k/week!
Suspect the truth of the matter is that Scottish clubs are beginning to target League two and non -league clubs for young and talented players, pretty much in the same way that Championship and League One clubs are looking to plunder the SPL for talented youngsters etc.

Yeh....there are a fair few Seagull fans that remember the abuse I gave Brown (and Davies) during Brown's last game at Preston - they still accuse me of getting Brown the sack and love the irony of him being the Motherwell manager now!

Am too young to remember KM - the first keeper I really remember was Hugh Sproat, who seemed to prefer playing full back than goalkeeper.
Perhaps through rose tinted spectacles, but I think Maxwell is possibly the best keeper I have seen in the C&A, although its hard not to think about big Sieb at the same time - though as others have said, perhaps more for his character, than his actual ability.
Now I come to think about it - we have no exactly been blessed with keepers over the years!

Congrats to Jack and Victor on the MOM award - hope the jinx that goes with that award does not apply to OAPs.
Am far from unhappy that they are staying on until the end of next year - and I never thought I'd be saying that about Craig Brown at Motherwell!

As we are coming to the end of the window, how does everyone feel about the squad at this point in time?
In many ways we have been busy - secured the Everton pair till the end of the season, secured a new management team until the end of the season, ex-Celt midfielder apparently on the way, and one time Motherwell midfielder possibly off to his boyhood heroes.
On the face of it, we don't appear to have strengthened the squad greatly (yet), and will no doubt have to face last minute anguish on whether anyone wants to buy one of our key players (am guessing Reynolds would be the most likely candidate?).
Do we have enough to finish top 6 assuming no more signings/departures?

I'd say the apparent silence is more to do with the fact that Motherwell appear to be quite happy to let Celtic piss all over us time and time again.
It has sounded to me as if Motherwell have actually done a fair bit to let the lad know that he is very much wanted by the club (certainly since McGhee's departure anyway).
Am curious - what more do you think the club should, and could have done?

The abuse McCart is receiving here is out of order.
He is doing his job, which sees him doing the best he can for Celtic - not Motherwell!
Most people on this thread appear to agree that they will be disappointed IF Slane moves on. Clearly Slane is one of our prized assets, and McCart would not be doing his job if he simply did not try to get the lad simply because it is Motherwell he is dealing with.
I would expect Motherwell to be screaming blue murder (or whatever that old saying is) if McCart or Celtic were doing anything remotely dodgy - and I take the apparent silence from Motherwell on this to speak for itself.

Have mixed feelings about Buzz moving back to Scotland.
On one hand, I would sincerely like him to play out of his skin, and stick it right up the Sussex boo boys.
That said...it is Hibs he has moved to!

Motherwell are set to lose the services of loan star Yassin Moutaouakil in the New Year, skysports.com understands.The French full-back is currently on loan at Fir Park from Charlton in a deal which is due to expire in January.
Well are very keen to see Moutaouakil remain north of the border, but interest is such that the 23-year-old could find himself in the Premier League come January.
Skysports.com understands that scouts have been flocking to check on Moutaouakil in action, as reports of his good progress have mounted.
Moutaouakil signed for Charlton in 2007, when the Addicks beat the likes of Lazio, Aston Villaand Everton to the signature of the then French Under-21 international.
However, things did not work out as expected for Moutaouakil and he joined Motherwell in the summer with the hope of reigniting his career, and that is what he has done.
Now at least two Premier League clubs are considering bids for him, whilst a host of Championship clubs are also readying moves and a switch back to England now looks highly likely.

Have not seen anything specific on the Website, and I have not received a response to the mail I sent a couple of week's ago?

am I the only one fearing a media/SFA backlash against Motherwell Fc ?
I now fear the worst with back to back old firm games coming up that we are gonna get no decisions going our way ..... or is that just par for the course against them ??
Do any of the Nationals actually give us anything like decent coverage - I suspect no big loss really.
SFA backlash may well depend on who is found to be playing games....if Gannon is innocent then a backlash would be unlikely!

We could just have easily lost the Accies game and St. Johnstone game, so I'm still not convinced it's 8 points thrown away.
Just the joys of following a relatively young and inexperienced team!
I have admit that we have found a greater consistency, and level of performance than I thought possible at the start of the season.

Nope - I expected him to continue to flap everytime a cross came in - just as he did in Scotland.
Have a look at the 1st goal Brighton conceded midweek against Norwich - you'll get the picture...

Brighton and Smith concede 4 at Norwich. Every time I see their results he's in goal and they're getting horsed. Does the guy from Brighton still post here?
As I have said on other threads - Smith has hardly been to blame for just about any of the goals he has conceded.
The problem with NSC (link posted by someone else on here) is that most of the fans sit in their armchairs, and abuse without seeing (the game at Leeds was a classic point where Leeds scored an unstoppable 1st goal and the guy to the left of me stated that we should expect nothing else whilst we played Smith in goals).
The majority of the goals conceded whilst Smith in goals have been due to Kamakazi defending - or pushing too many up to get goals back (especially when playing with 9 or 10 men) and getting caught on the counter.
The only disappointment for me in terms of Smith's displays is that he has hardly produced any saves - would have thought he should have made more blocks than he has. He also appears to be struggling with every cross ball.
Suspect his confidence is rock bottom - and will be replaced by Kuiper's when he returns from a groin strain.

A lot of folk down on the South Coast would be delighted to see Smith return home after conceding 20 goals in 5.5 games.
The number of goals conceded does not even begin to tell the story, but he needs to start doing something quickly or he will soon be a forgotten man!

Not a lot in the press. the media in Brighton appear to be favouring the scattergun approach and the Southend manager is now favourite (to them).
The Argus used to get an inside line from the old Chairman - that no longer seems to be the case with the new guy...
Latest murmurs that I had heard indicated that Gus Poyet was in line to be offered the job - but just seen that the local press have published an article to that effect, so assume Poyet is now out of the running.
