How many times has carroll done that this season that's led to a goal, bloody farcical that he keeps doing it again and again, after the first couple of times you would think he would have learned a lesson.between him and mcginley our options in that position are truly woeful.

Carroll always looks so disinterested. He looks so passive about everything. He basically looks like he cant be arsed every week.

Watched the early stages and we looked like rabbits caught in headlights. Defended far too deeply and left wings exposed. It was no surprise that Sevco opened the scoring.

In truth we we were beaten at 1145. Playing Goss and Tierney in the same team was a big mistake. Why no Woolery?

at worst Woolery should have come on the minute Rangers went down to 10 men. Game was screaming out for us to have some width and pace. GA will be sacked in October.

I’m with you Yorky and have been for a while .

what I can’t get past though is we are top 6. I can’t see us parting ways with any mgr who brings in top 6,

He will have exceeded the targets given to him so there is no danger of him losing his job.

I’m starting to move over to the theory that Alexander is not the man I’m afraid. I just don’t see any improvement, in fact we’re just going backwards. His signings on the whole are just not performing, we have the worst defence we’ve had in my time watching the club, midfield not much better. I can’t even say the football is entertaining because it’s not. We just look a complete shambles in truth.  I can’t actually think of any positives at the moment.

He a pub league manager managing a pub team.

    I can’t argue with that.

I wasn’t looking for us to beat Rangers today but when the circumstances presented themselves I did feel the worst we would get would be a draw.

However we need to face the stark fact that we very probably have the worst squad of players that’s ever been assembled at Fir Park. It’s packed full of utter dross.

Added to that we have a manager in charge of the aforesaid utter dross, whose football philosophy makes me cringe. We are bereft of football ability; we lack cohesiveness as a group; we are uncompetitive and utterly unwatchable.

We’ve only taken 9 points from a possible 42 since the turn of the year and that’s relegation form. Thankfully it won’t happen this season but it’s an absolute racing certainty that it’ll be on the cards from the start of next season.

We are also starting to lose fans with  even some diehards finding it tough to keep going.

Radical change is badly needed in our recruitment philosophy as the quality of player being brought in from lower and non-league English and Irish football has been abysmal for some time now.

It’s time for the chairman and board to wake up smartly and smell the shite.

Really ? the minute we went down to 10 men I said to my mate we'd lose and make a cunt of it. They never fail to live down to my expectations. Woolery should have been on the minute Rangers went down to 10 men. Ojala should have been hooked earlier and move Mugabi to centre of defence. We were getting tickets to go to Tannadice, that pile of shite today has put paid to that.  I would not spend £50 on an away game we will no doubt make a cunt of and give TW his second goal of the season.

And I’d swap any of our recent European ‘adventures’ for St.Mirren and Ross County’s League Cup wins.

I’ve said this before, to be able to properly enjoy Europe for us and clubs like us you need to be able to afford to travel to the away legs, especially if it’s a tie worth travelling to, ie. Dortmund. And then it’s more about the jolly abroad with your mates than the football itself if we’re honest. And that’s not a criticism of anyone btw, if that’s part of the football ‘experience’ for you then great.

Me personally? I’d settle for winning a Cup match and celebrating with a few pints down the Electric with my usual crew afterwards rather than the ‘European tour’.

Me too I'd take any domestic trophy ahead of years of boring European predictability.

I hope we don't get into Europe because we are fucking garbage.

I couldnt care less if I never saw Motherwell in Europe ever again. I find European football especially the diddy team participation utterly boring and devoid of any excitement. We've played something like 35 games in European tournaments and Id struggle to name more than 4 games that provided any real excitement or results going against expectations. However I accept it generates money and some of our supporters love it so it aint for me to piss on their parade.

KVV will be back from suspension for Ross County and Hearts which is decent as they are the most winnable fixtures. Alexander better get his thinking cap on for a forward line for Tannadice.

edited on trophy day? I think I will pass.

am i not right in thinking KVV didnt play the last game at Ibrox

It says more about the standard at the back. I thought Lamie got way too much stick but he’s still just a bog standard Premiership/higher level Championship player for me. I’d rather bring back the bold Declan simply because I think he’s better than what we have now and even that would not be popular.

There as much chance of Gallagher return than me signing. He left a bad taste in the mouth  when he left so quite happy to see his career go nowhere at Aberdeen.

  10. 1 hour ago, C&A not the shop said:

    Aye exactly.

Lamie went to move for more money and to work with a guy he liked. The guy he liked is gone and maybe the money wasn't what he expected.

If he's better than what we can get for the same money elsewhere then I've no problem with him now getting a deal. Though this should really be in the ins and outs thread.

He also wasnt getting a regular game which has changed with his upturn in form.

  11. 5 hours ago, Motherwell Daft said:

Personally I think it’s a sad day when we are even thinking about re signing Lamie, this is the guy who gave more goals to the opposition than our strikers scored, now that we have (unfortunately) GA next season whether that’s good or bad let him sign his new centre half’s n see what we get, all that will happen is Lamie will hold us to ransom n do we really want him?
We need a clear out of the ones who don’t want to play at Motherwell n if Lamie  wants to go n play championship footie then let him go! IMO

Lammie had a bad period and rightly drifted out of contention. Since he's come back in hes been solid for months now and is better than OJala and Sol combined and for that reason we should look to keep him if we can. Also look at his on field commitment for someone who is leaving and look at Carrols who is staying night and day.

Ross County sneaking in ahead of Aberdeen and Hibs is excellent, County are definitely the weaker of those three teams.

5th place at worst should be well in our sights. Hopefully we play like we did vs St Mirren and kick on and clinch a European spot.

I disagree Ive said all season out with the OF RC have been the hardest team we've faced. Aberdeen and Hibs are in the bottom 6 on merit.

The problem is that would leave us with 20 home games and 18 away. I reckon it’ll be balanced with an extra away trip to Tannadice, as Dundee United need an ‘extra’ home game to balance 19 home and away games. (This is based on just looking at our games, and not who everyone else in the top 6 had already played home / away, so it could change obviously.)

Not necessarily , here is the guide direct from SPFL site.

How are the fixtures worked out?
The main factor is to try to ensure that clubs finish the season having played 19 home games and 19 away games.

There is a chance of one club playing 18 at home and 20 away or vice versa. That was something all clubs were aware of prior to introducing the system.

The managers job is to win games and get us as high up the league as possible. If he pulls off the result at the weekend (even if we scrape a dire 0-0 and other results help us out) and we get top six, then he deserves the credit. Just the same as he deserves to get slated if the opposite happens.

The style of football hasn't been great, but there aren't any points available for entertainment value.

Hopefully we can make a couple of tweaks to the squad and a solid preseason with a relatively settled group will result in more exciting football, kind of how it came together for McLean back in the day after a few years of turgid stuff. It isn't a guarantee, but it's what's keeping me going.

Im no fan of GA or the dross we watch but football is a results business, nothing else matters. Therefore he will have probably over delivered on the remit the club will have given him. For that he deserves credit.

Im pretty sure we were as bad as a lot of people made out. I also think there was a huge amount of frustration because a lot of people believed GA had choices available that could have sorted, or at least improved, the results via team selection and/or tactics.

Correct we were every bit as bad as everyone was making out. Make no bones about it if we get into the top 6 or even Europe it is no way a sign of a decent team. Its a sign of the utterly pitiful standard of teams in the league. In no other season would this points tally to date have us a baw hair off Europe. Even playing semi decent stuff yesterday we gave away amateurish goals.

  16. 5 hours ago, joewarkfanclub said:

I agree with much of that. I think the frustration is that, if it had not been for the managers inexplicable mistakes, top 6 would have been home and hosed weeks ago. He has many fine qualities, but he needs to identify his weaknesses and learn from them by not making the same mistakes over and over again.

Oh, and bin the hoofball. Today proves we can actually play a bit and still get results.

exactly you have to wonder why we have played so much hoofball all season

Great result. Defended much better 2nd half.

Lots of permutations but I think a point does us next week as long as Hibs and Ross C don’t both win against Hearts and Aberdeen (unlikely).

The permutation I want .. is Dundee Beat Dundee Utd, Hibs beat Hearts, Motherwell beat Livingston and Ross County beat Aberdeen puts Aberdeen and Utd (and Tony Watt) in the bottom 6

Why do we need to take it? We've just posted record profits

The club doesn't run on fresh air.  The record profits pay for the biggest squad we've had in years. We have paid transfer fees and the money we generate out with transfers does not cover the day to day running of the club. By 2023 comes there will be a big dent in those profits.

Im never sure whether your replies are based on reliable information or hypotheticals.

FWIW, I was genuinely surprised that we were able to get Kelly on a permanent contract at all. So I would surmise there must have been some wheeling and dealing done to secure his signature.

I personally wouldnt have any ill feeling towards Kelly or the club if he moves on, particularly if we were to secure a fee for doing so. However, given my previous comment it wouldnt surprise me if there is a deal where a significant part of the fee goes to him as the sweetener for his original signature.

I will be very disappointed to see him go, but it will happen at some point. Its just the way it is for clubs like ours.

Wouldnt want to lose Kelly but he goes into his last year next summer if a big offer comes in we need to take it.

I think whats worrying is that they are choosing to leave. We are either not offering them decent pay or they don't enjoy being at Fir Park. I mean losing Lamie and OHara is not the end of the world, but I would think that Motherwell would have been keen to keep them on the books, but losing them to a rival is not great.

I think a few more could go in the summer.

Things just don't feel right at the club just now which is worrying.

theres a big difference between decent pay and paying them what they are worth.

  21. 25 minutes ago, ppower said:

I said on another post regardless of whether the salaries are correct or not, only Kelly and maybe Van Veen are worth it. Kelly for winning us points with his saves and Van Veen with his goals. The rest  could take a long walk of a short plank as far as I am concerned with GA leading them.

O'Hara is keen to play for Robinson again. With Alexander's tactics he might as well sell every midfield player we have. Alexander since the turn of the year is the worst performing manager and we are the worst performing team. Only 5pts won. Dundee have won 7pts in that period.  We are no better a team than them.  Last 2 games against the bottom two teams we managed 1pt.  Yet it appears Alexander is under no pressure. Even if we did get relegated he will still be there unless he decides to leave. Why, because the club decided  to give him a 3 year contract. The person who agreed to that should be getting asked questions as to why they didn't wait until the end of this season to review Alexander's performance and then negotiate with him or show him the door.

Getting rid of Alexander would be no huge cost financially. We may need to reduce the size of the squad by a couple of players but it certainly wouldnt be a stumbling block should we need to.

Take a moment, engage your brain, how would a random website have any idea the exact amount we are paying each individual player?

Darragh O'Connor being on 2.4k a week tells you that they are indeed talking mince.

if true and like all things on social media must be taken with a pinch of salt they will be 2020/21 wages and Darragh wasnt with us then.  You'd be surprised how easy some of HMRCs data finds its way into the public domain.
