  1. Similar type of team to last years second leg vs Levante, again following 0-2 reverse at home, would be my prediction for Thursday.

A mix of young/fringe players and a few experienced players, with some of the more established first teamers left at home.

Didn't agree with it totally last year, but if the same happens again and the 'priority' is the weekends league game, then it puts a bit more pressure on the manager to get a result in the league match.

  2. Season ticket renewed (late as usual) and Euro ticket bought today without any hiccups. Can’t see it being anywhere near a sell out on Thursday, I reckon we will be lucky to get 8,500 in the ground. That would still a good crowd, however it would be nice to see a few more on the night.

Anywhere in the region of 8,500 would be superb but i cant see it.

Somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 is far more likely in my opinion, however with that being split over the three stands that'll be open it should create a good atmosphere.

  3. Would be very surprised if by the end of the window, though I'd hope before then, we don't have a new wide player, be it a loan or permanent deal.

Most likely right sided, and who has a bit of pace, and hopefully some decent ability as well.

Can't see McCall not bringing, or planning to bring, one in given its been a big part of the success his teams have enjoyed.

  4. Really?

I personally think there's a whole lot more bedding in to be done before I would have any confidence in saying that. On the evidence of the Newcastle and Nottingham games I'd say our defensive solidity was fragile at best for several fairly lengthy spells in each.

New first choice goalkeeper, central-defensive partnership and Ramsden at right-back means a back-line that's very much in its infancy and one I don't think we'll see the best of for a wee bit yet.

Not sure if this is the right place, but on the subject of first choice goalkeeper. Do people think its Hollis or Gunnar between the posts on Thursday?

Given team selection last night, it would indicate Hollis. Personally, I would hope it's not. But two home pre season games, two starts, and the final one being the best part of 70 mins behind what seems to be the first pick defence all points to that.

Though maybe that was McCall trying to confuse the Russians, though I doubt it.

  5. Friday night improved my thoughts on the black kit, seeing it in the flesh so to speak it was decent.

Having said that for me it's more of a third kit (though I do like the current blue effort) as it lacks a bit of claret and/or amber, as I generally like our away kit to have some reference to our colours.

Best 'away kit i'd like' and have seen, and agreeing with a previous post, is watfords away. Similar design obviously with both clubs being puma, but really smart strip.

  6. Anywhere but Russia or any other country that involves the need for visas/paperwork.

And not Swansea either. It might be logistically ideal but to me it's not a proper European trip when you don't even leave the British Isles.

  7. Solid win, not at our best but never really needed to be. It really shows how much quality this team has had this season when we can beat teams and run up impressive scores without playing at our best which we've done on numerous occasions this season.

Back 5 and Las solid, Law a class act, another tireless shift from Ojamaa, another goal from Higgy, assist from Humphrey and Faddy a class above without breaking sweat.

Special mention to boo boy favourite this season Tom Hateley who I thought had a tremendous game and had their boy in his back pocket who never got past him, got in one crucial block at 0-1 at the start of the 2nd half, got forward all game and another assist from another corner.

Seven goals from Hateley's corners this season now, but no wait I forgot HATLEEYS CORNERS ARE THE WORST EVERS!!!1!

Pin point pass from Hateley but in saying that Law's take an finish was a joy to behold. Well worked set piece and just a fantastic all round goal.

Still 2nd in the table, 13 points from a possible 15, notched 12 goals in the process and our 'awful' defence even managed to keep a couple of clean sheets. It's remarkable the amount of stick this teams taken on here when you consider how consistent they've been over the last few seasons. Won't know what we've got till it's gone, make the most of this team while it's still here cause it's a joy to watch a Motherwell team that can go an dismantle teams in the fashion that this one does.

I'll second that, a great summing up.

  8. Lads that played done us proud tonight. They didn't deserve, in my opinion, to lose tonights game.

Having said that they've set their standards tonight, and given the managers focus has been on Sunday for a long time, pressure on him for a result with the non fit players back in I'd presume.

Especially pleased for pagey, often hard done by over the past few seasons, thought he was really good.

  9. Thankfully they're not all wanting to go to the game tomorrow. Can you imagine the ticket scramble!!!! (I jest!!)

In all seriousness, I know where you're coming from, but in reality 6,000 home fans at £25 a pop is well up on our normal home gate so fair play I'd say.

As long as everyone gets behind the team, regardless of number, surely that's the main thing.

  10. I used to go to quite a few Spanish games - don't worry about this, for some reason rows are numbered odd or even, so it always appears that two seats together are not really.

Fair do's, cheers for that. Was more worried about the poor soul who may have got the ticket for the 'seat' between us!!!!

  11. The away tickets have no date or kick off time on them, surely thats a first.

Ticket office did confirm it's a 2045 ko next Thurs, need to check if that's uk watch or Spanish watch time.

Also was told all the tickets were even numbered seats, as got given two 'together' and when I asked about the seat numbers (asiento) not being two consecutive numbers that was the explanation given. Anyone else notice this?

  12. Got ma ticket this morning (only one person serving at the tkt office....)

Anyhoo.....how many Levante fans are we expecting to travel for 1st leg (more than the 190 odd Panathinaikos fans who made the trip,,,) ?

I'd guess there'll be a similar amount as the Pana game.

Hopefully be wrong and they bring a few to add to the atmosphere but I can't see it.

  13. How many do you think we will take, I was thinking about 500 would have been more but Athens may have skint few that would have went

You could be right, if we take around that figure it'd be a great turnout considering it's the second European trip in a matter of weeks.

  14. We have a chance against this mob. They are not vastly impressive, and while I see a win v Barca away, trust me, from the outside looking in, it's the same as a win at Parkhead. Dubious, but do-able, you would hope.

They'll likely edge it, but realistically, they are no better than either Celtic or Rangers last year, and arguably weaker, and we were clearly the best of the rest. There is a very solid chance, over two legs, that we can do this.

This team finished one point behind Atletico Madrid last season, who are the defending champions and winners twice out the last three years of the Europa league.

Admittedly I think most folk who keep an eye on Spanish fitba will realise they over achieved last season, but the same could be said of ourselves.

I'd say a very solid chance over two legs is an admirable outlook but a tad excessive.

  15. A week to the draw, and while I understand there is some form of draw after the ties are decided to determine who is the home team for the first leg etc, does anyone have any idea how they determine the day of the actual games as it appears Tuesday and Wednesday are both possibilities, and potentially when this might be confirmed.

Just a thought as could affect travel plans.
